INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of another great
Phonic product. The A2800 distribution mixer provides
an easy, convenient way to split your input signals
into up to 8 outputs on a single unit. Individual left and
right controls on each output channel ensure users
are given maximum control over your mixes, while
output level meters on each channel enable constant
monitoring of output levels for each independent
output.
Phonic strives to design and build products that are
practical in real-world situations. The A2800 provides
an ideal manner to distribute signals throughout public
address systems, communication systems, hotels,
discotheques, restaurants and theatres.
We know how excited you are to get started – hooking
up your mixer is probably your number one priority
right now – but before you go and do anything crazy,
we suggest you take a few minutes to take a look
through this manual. It contains a few helpful hints
and tricks that could help you better utilize the A2800’s
features and get you headed in the right direction.
FEATURES
Extraordinarily low-noise 2 in, 8 out line distribution
mixer
Pan / balance control on each output channel for
exible routing
Flexible use as an output level matching preamp
or DI box
Link in and out connectors for easy expansion of
16 or more outputs
5-segment output level meters for all channels
3-segment input level meters on each the left and
right inputs
Individual left and right volume controls on input
channels
Rugged construction with premium components
for long-lasting life
INSTALLATION
The A2800 ts into one standard rack unit. This
means it can be installed in a typical 19” rack. Be
sure to leave at least 1 rack unit of space between
this product and any other product that may emit
heat. It’s also advisable to ensure you have at least
5” (12.7 mm) of space at the rear of the unit to ensure
sufcient airow can reach the device.
POWER
The power rating of your product is completely
dependent on the region in which you purchased
it. The Phonic A2800 will conform to local power
requirements. If you purchased this unit overseas,
be sure to check that local power ratings conform to
those required by the unit.
WARNING: It is of utmost importance that you check
local voltage levels are suitable for your A2800 before
you plug it in and turn it on.
OPERATION
The concept of the A2800 is easy enough to
understand. Phonic have provided a single stereo
input that can have each the left and right channel
levels individually controlled. There are then 8
individual outputs, each of which has its own level
control and pan control. This being the case, you’re
actually able to utilize these outputs as 8 mono
outputs or 4 stereo outputs. Simply set the pan
control of one channel to the left, and another to the
right, and there you have it – a stereo mix.
CONNECTIONS
Phonic advises that you make all input and output
connections to the A2800 before activating the unit.
Use balanced connections wherever possible as to
provide maximum immunity from interference. When
turning on your system, start with devices connected
to input connectors, followed by the A2800, and
finally any output devices that need activating.
Repeat this process in reverse when turning off
your system.

FRONT PANEL
1. Left and Right Input Level Controls
These controls adjust the incoming signals from the
left and right inputs (located on the rear of the device).
These allow users to individually adjust the incoming
signals from each input channel.
2. Level Meters
Above each input and output channel you will nd a
level meter. These give constant indications of audio
levels. The input channels feature 3-segment meters
on each of the input channels (left and right). Output
channels all have 5-segment meters.
3. Level Control
Each output channel features a nal rotary control
allowing total control over your mix level.
4. Pan Control
This pan control is available on each of the output
channels. Use it to adjust the degree of the left and
right input signals the channel receive.
Pro-tip: to create a stereo channel, simply pan one output
channel to the left, and another to the right. Done! You now
have a stereo mix.
5. Power Switch
Turn the A2800 on and off using this switch.
REAR PANEL
6. Main Inputs
These combo jacks accept both balanced and
unbalanced signals from XLR and ¼” TRS phone
jack connectors. This is the main left and right input
of the A2800 and can consist of either a stereo signal
or two individual mono signals.
7. Link In & Out
These ¼” TRS phone jacks are for linking to other
A2800 units, enabling users to distribute signals to
up to 16 outputs when using two units.
8. Link Switch
This switch decides whether the LINK connectors are
inputs or outputs. Phonic advises that you adjust this
switch and make all connections before connecting
to the mains and activating the device.
9. XLR Outputs
Output channels 1 through 4 on the A2800 consist
of XLR connectors.
10. ¼” Outputs
Output channels 5 through 8, on the other hand,
consist of ¼” TRS phone jack connectors.
11. Power Connector
Connect the A2800 power cable to this socket. On
the lower part of this socket you will nd a small
compartment that holds the A2800 fuse. Be sure to
replace this with an identical fuse for your region to
ensure the A2800 powers on and operates correctly.
NB. Be sure to double check local power levels are identical to
those required by the A2800 before connecting and activating.
Connecting inappropriate power levels will be detrimental to the
unit.
