VM-Tools Installation Procedure

List of steps to be executed :

1. Download the following packages from http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/5.5latest/rhel6/x86_64/index.html :

a) kmod-vmware-tools-vmci-9.5.13.0-2.6.32.71.el6.x86_64.5.el6.x86_64.rpm

b) kmod-vmware-tools-vmxnet-2.0.15.0-2.6.32.71.el6.x86_64.5.el6.x86_64.rpm

c) kmod-vmware-tools-vsock-9.5.6.0-2.6.32.71.el6.x86_64.5.el6.x86_64.rpm

d) vmware-tools-esx-kmods-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

e) vmware-tools-foundation-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

f) vmware-tools-vmci-common-9.4.12-5.el6.x86_64.rpm

g) vmware-tools-vmxnet-common-9.4.12-5.el6.x86_64.rpm

h) vmware-tools-vsock-common-9.4.12-5.el6.x86_64.rpm

i) vmware-tools-core-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

j) vmware-tools-esx-nox-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

k) vmware-tools-guestlib-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

l) vmware-tools-guestsdk-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

m) vmware-tools-libraries-nox-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

n) vmware-tools-plugins-autoUpgrade-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

o) vmware-tools-plugins-deployPkg-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

p) vmware-tools-plugins-grabbitmqProxy-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

q) vmware-tools-plugins-guestInfo-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

r) vmware-tools-plugins-hgfsServer-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

s) vmware-tools-plugins-powerOps-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

t) vmware-tools-plugins-timeSync-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

u) vmware-tools-plugins-vix-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

v) vmware-tools-plugins-vmbackup-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

w) vmware-tools-services-9.4.12-1.el6.x86_64.rpm

2. Login to ADSP with root access

3. Copy the downloaded OSP packages to /usr/local/tmp/vmtools-osp/ using WinSCP

4. Execute the following commands to install:

[root@localhost ~]# cd /usr/local/tmp/vmtools-osp/

[root@localhost ~]# rpm -Uvh *.rpm

The output should be without any errors. Please see the below screenshot.

5. To check installed packages, type:

[root@localhost ~]# rpm -qa --last

6. Reboot the machine

7. Visit the vpshere client and verify the status of the vmware tools in summary tab of the ADSP VM

 The status should be showns as “Running”

 The Power OFF/ON option should be available for Guest to perform graceful power operations

8. SSh to ADSP using smxmgr/smxmgr credentials, type “status”choose option P

The status of the installed VMtools will be displayed on top.

9. From the CLI, enable the time synchronization(if needed) feature for VM to synchronize the guest OS clock with the

virtualization platform.

[root@localhost ~]# vmware-toolbox-cmd timesync status

[root@localhost ~]# vmware-toolbox-cmd timesync enable

VM-Tools UNInstallation Procedure

List of steps to be executed :

1. Login to ADSP with root access

2. Execute the command:

[root@localhost ~]# rpm -e kmod-vmware-tools-vmci kmod-vmware-tools-vmxnet kmod-vmware-tools-vsock

vmware-tools-esx-kmods vmware-tools-foundation vmware-tools-vmci-common vmware-tools-vmxnet-common

vmware-tools-vsock-common vmware-tools-core vmware-tools-esx-nox vmware-tools-foundation vmware-tools-

guestlib vmware-tools-guestsdk vmware-tools-libraries-nox vmware-tools-plugins-autoUpgrade vmware-tools-

plugins-deployPkg vmware-tools-plugins-grabbitmqProxy vmware-tools-plugins-guestInfo vmware-tools-plugins-

hgfsServer vmware-tools-plugins-powerOps vmware-tools-plugins-timeSync vmware-tools-plugins-vix vmware-

The output should be without any errors. Please see the below screenshot. Warning message could be ignored.

3. Reboot the machine

4. Visit the vpshere client and verify the status of the vmware tools in summary tab of the ADSP VM
