General Operation
1. Readthis operator'smanualcarefullyin its entiretybefore
attemptingtoassemblethismachine.Read,understand,
andfollowallinstructionsonthe machineandin the
manual(s)beforeoperation.Becompletelyfamiliarwith
thecontrolsandthe properuseofthismachinebefore
operatingit.Keepthis manualin asafeplaceforfuture
andregularreferenceandfororderingreplacementparts.
2. Thismachineisaprecisionpieceof powerequipment,
nota plaything.Therefore,exerciseextremecautionat all
times.Yourunithasbeendesignedto performonejob: to
mowgrass.Do notuseit for anyotherpurpose.
3. Neverallowchildrenunder14yearsoldto operatethis
machine.Children14yearsoldandovershouldreadand
understandthe instructionsinthismanualandshould
betrainedand supervisedbya parent.Onlyresponsible
individualswhoarefamiliarwiththeserulesofsafe

4. Thoroughlyinspectthe areawherethe equipmentisto

againsta wallor obstruction,whichmaycausedischarged
materialto ricochetbacktowardthe operator.
5. Tohelpavoidbladecontactorathrownobjectinjury,
stayinoperatorzonebehindhandlesandkeepchildren,
bystanders,helpersandpetsatleast75feetfrommower
whileit isin operation.Stopmachineifanyoneenters

10.Manyinjuriesoccurasa resultofthe mowerbeingpulled
overthefootduringafall causedby slippingortripping.
Do notholdontothe mowerifyouarefalling;releasethe
handleimmediately.
11.Neverpullthe mowerbacktowardyouwhileyouare
walking.Ifyoumustbackthe mowerawayfromawallor
obstructionfirstlookdownandbehindtoavoidtrippingand
thenfollowthesesteps:
a. Stepbackfrommowertofully extendyourarms.
b. Besureyou arewellbalancedwithsurefooting.
c. Pullthe mowerbackslowly,no morethanhalfway
towardyou.
d. Repeatthesestepsasneeded.
12.Donotoperatethe mowerwhileunderthe influenceof
alcoholor drugs.
13.Donotengagethe self-propelledmechanismon unitsso
equippedwhilestartingengine.
14.Thebladecontrolhandleisasafetydevice.Neverattempt
tobypassits operation.Doingsomakesthe safetydevice
inoperativeandmay resultinpersonalinjurythrough
contactwiththe rotatingblade.The bladecontrolhandle
mustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsandautomatically
returntothe disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
15.Neveroperatethe mowerinwetgrass.Alwaysbe sureof
yourfooting. A slipand fallcan causeseriouspersonal
injury.Ifyoufeelyouarelosingyourfooting,releasethe
bladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop
rotatingwithinthreeseconds.
16.Mowonlyindaylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.
17.Stopthe bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
18.Ifthe equipmentshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stopthe
engineandcheckimmediatelyforthe cause.Vibrationis
generallyawarningoftrouble.

Slope Operation
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtoslip andfall accidents,which
can resultin severeinjury.Operationonslopesrequiresextra
caution.Ifyoufeel uneasyon aslope,do notmowit. Foryour
safety,usetheslopegaugeincludedaspartofthis manualto
measureslopesbeforeoperatingthisunitona slopedor hilly
area.If theslopeisgreaterthan15degrees,donot mowit.
Do:
1. Mowacrossthefaceofslopes;neverupanddown.Exercise
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.
2. Watchfor holes,ruts,rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumps
whichcancauseyouto slipor trip.Tallgrasscanhide
obstacles.
3. Alwaysbesureofyourfooting.Aslipand fallcan cause
seriouspersonalinjury.Ifyoufeelyou arelosingyour
balance,releasethe bladecontrolhandleimmediately,and
the bladewill stoprotatingwithin3 seconds.
Do Not:
1. Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments,you
couldloseyourfootingor balance.
2. Donotmowslopesgreaterthan 15degreesasshownon
the slopegauge.
3. Donotmowonwetgrass.Unstablefootingcouldcause
slipping.

Safe HandlingOf Gasoline:
1. Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextreme
carein handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammable
andthevaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycan
occurwhengasolineisspilledonyourselforyourclothes,
whichcanignite.Washyourskin andchangeclothes
immediately.
2. Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.
3. Neverfillcontainersinsideavehicleoron atruck ortrailer
bedwitha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainersonthe
groundawayfromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
4. Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruckor trailer
andrefueliton theground.If this is notpossible,then refuel
suchequipmenton atrailerwitha portablecontainer,rather
thanfromagasolinedispensernozzle.
5. Keepthenozzlein contactwiththe rimof thefueltank or
containeropeningatall timesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Do
notuseanozzlelock-opendevice.

removeanyfuel soakeddebris.
14.Allowa mowertocoolat least5 minutesbeforestoring.

tonewmerchandisepurchasedandusedin theUnitedStates,itsposses-
sionsandterritories.
"Troy-Bilt"warrantsthisproductagainstdefectsinmaterialandworkman-
shipfora periodof two(2)yearscommencingonthedateoforiginal
purchaseandwill,atits option,repairorreplace,freeofcharge,anypart
foundtobedefectivein materialsorworkmanship.This limitedwarranty
shallonlyapplyifthisproducthasbeenoperatedandmaintainedin
accordancewiththeOperator'sManualfurnishedwiththeproduct,and
hasnotbeensubjectto misuse,abuse,commercialuse,neglect,accident,
impropermaintenance,alteration,vandalism,theft,fire,water,or damage
becauseofotherperilor naturaldisaster.Damageresultingfromthe
installationoruseofanypart,accessoryor attachmentnotapprovedby
Troy-Biltforusewiththeproduct(s)coveredbythis manualwill voidyour
warrantyastoanyresultingdamage.
Normalwearpartsarewarrantedtobefreefromdefectsinmaterialand
workmanshipfora periodofthirty(30)daysfromthedateofpurchase.
Normalwearpartsinclude,butare notlimitedto itemssuchas: batteries,
belts,blades,bladeadapters,grassbags,riderdeckwheels,seats,snow
throwerskidshoes,shaveplates,augerspiralrubberandtires.

a. Theengineor componentpartsthereof.Theseitemsmay
carrya separatemanufacturer'swarranty.Refertoapplicable
manufacturer'swarrantyfortermsandconditions.
b. Logsplitterpumps,valves,andcylindershaveaseparateone
yearwarranty.
c. Routinemaintenanceitemssuchaslubricants,filters,blade
sharpening,tune-ups,brakeadjustments,clutch adjustments,
deckadjustments,andnormaldeteriorationoftheexteriorfinish
duetouseorexposure.
d. Servicecompletedbysomeoneotherthananauthorizedservice
dealer.
e. Troy-Biltdoesnotextendanywarrantyforproductssoldor
exportedoutsideoftheUnitedStates,its possessionsand
territories,exceptthosesoldthroughTroy-Bilt'sauthorized
channelsofexportdistribution.
f. Replacementpartsthatare notgenuineTroy-Biltparts.
g. Transportationchargesandservicecalls.
Noimpliedwarranty,includinganyimpliedwarrantyof merchant-
ability offitness for a particularpurpose,applies after the applicable
periodof expresswritten warranty aboveasto the partsas identi-
fied. Noother expresswarranty, whether written or oral, exceptas
mentioned above,givenby anypersonor entity,includinga dealer or
retailer,with respectto any product,shallbindTroy-Bilt.Duringthe
periodof the warranty,the exclusiveremedyisrepairor replacement
of the productas setforth above.
The provisionsas setforth inthis warranty providethe soleand
exclusiveremedyarising from the sale.Troy-Biltshallnot be liable
for incidentalor consequentiallossor damageincluding,without
limitation, expensesincurredfor substituteor replacementlawncare
servicesor for rentalexpensesto temporarily replacea warranted
product.
Somestatesdo notallowtheexclusionor limitationofincidentalor
consequentialdamages,or limitationson howlonganimpliedwarranty
lasts,sotheaboveexclusionsor limitationsmaynotapplytoyou.
Innoeventshallrecoveryofanykindbegreaterthantheamountofthe
purchasepriceoftheproductsold.Alteration of safety features of the
productshall void this warranty. Youassumetheriskandliabilityfor
loss,damage,or injurytoyouand yourpropertyand/ortoothersandtheir
propertyarisingoutofthemisuseor inabilitytousetheproduct.
This limitedwarrantyshallnotextendto anyoneotherthantheoriginal
