PKS 54 / PKS 66
The machine is intended for cutting wood length-
ways and crossways in straight lines and at mi-
tred angles of up to 45° on a firm surface.
PKS 54 CE / PKS 66 CE
The machine is intended for lengthways and
crossways cutting of wood with straight cutting
lines as well as mitre angles to 45° while resting
firmly on the work piece. With suitable saw
blades, non-ferrous metal, light building materials
and plastic can also be sawed.
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
Checking the Adjustment of the
Riving Knife
For safety reasons, the riving knife 6 must always
be used. The riving knife prevents the saw blade
from jamming during lengthways cuts.
The adjustment is carried out at minimal cutting
depth, as described in section Adjusting the Cut-
ting Depth.
PKS 66 / 66 CE
It is best to place the machine on the face side of
the motor housing.
Loosen clamping lever 23, tilt the base plate
away from the machine and tighten clamping le-
ver 23 again.
Loosen the screw 25, adjust the riving knife 6
and retighten the screw. Observe the values
given in the figure.
PKS 54 / 54 CE
It is best to place the machine on the face side of
the protective guard.
Loosen clamping lever 23, press the saw away
from the base plate 5 and tighten clamping le-
ver 23 again.
Loosen the screw 25, adjust the riving knife 6
and retighten the screw. Observe the values
given in the figure.
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
To achieve an optimum cut, the saw blade
must not protrude more than 3 mm at the
most from the material.
For adjusting the cutting depth loosen the clamp-
ing lever 23 and raise the saw from the base
plate 5, or lower it to the base plate, respectively.
Raise for smaller cutting depths
Lower for greater cutting depths
Set the desired depth on the cutting depth
scale 24.
Tighten the clamping lever 23 again.

The cutting mark 0° ( 18) indicates the position of
the saw blade for right angle cuts.
The cutting mark 45° ( 17) indicates the position
of the saw blade for 45° cuts.
Both cutting marks include the width of the saw
blade. Always guide the saw blade off of the
drawn-up cutting line, so that the required meas-
ure is not reduced by the width of the saw blade.
For this, choose the corresponding notch side of
the cutting mark 0° ( 18) or 45° ( 17), as shown in
the illustration.
Note: It is best to carry out a trial cut.
Check for correct mains voltage: The voltage
of the power source must agree with the voltage
specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Equipment marked with 230 V can also be con-
nected to 220 V.
Switching on:
Actuate the switch lock 1.
Press the On/Off switch 10 and hold pressed.
For safety reasons the On/Off switch of
the machine cannot be locked; it must
remain pressed during the entire opera-
tion.
Switching off:
Release the On/Off switch 10.
Speed Selection (Type CE)
With the adjustment knob 9, the speed can be
continuously selected. The required speed is de-
pendent on the saw blade used and the material
to be worked (see Saw Blade Table).
Constant Electronics (Type CE)
The constant electronics ensures that the ma-
chine speed is the same regardless of the load
conditions; this ensures uniform work advancing
and a smooth cutting pattern.
Overload Protection (Type CE)
When the machine is overloaded while sawing,
the motor stops and starts again only when the
advancing rate is reduced.
Gradual, smooth starting procedure
(Type CE)
Due to the gradual, smooth starting procedure of
the machine, a 13 A fuse is sufficient.
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
Wear protective gloves.
The saw blades used must correspond to
the characteristic data in these operating
instructions.
Use only saw blades with an allowable
speed matching at least the no-load speed
of the machine.
For changing the tool, it is easiest to stand the
machine on the front end of the motor housing.
Removing
Press spindle locking button 12 and keep de-
pressed.
The spindle locking button 12 may be actu-
ated only when the saw blade is at a stand-
still.
Using the Allen key 13 unscrew the clamping
bolt 22.
Remove clamping flange 21.
Pivot back the swinging protective guard 7 and
hold firmly.
Remove the saw blade.

Mounting
Clean the saw blade and all the clamping parts to
be assembled.
Pivot back the swinging protective guard 7 and
hold firmly.
Place the saw blade onto the mounting flange 20.
Assemble the clamping bolt 22 and clamping
flange 21.

turn.
Take care that the mounting positions of
the mounting flange 20 and clamping
flange 21 are correct.
When mounting, take care that the cutting
direction of the teeth (direction of the arrow
on the saw blade) and the direction of rota-
tion arrow on the protective guard agree.
Dust developing during opera-
tion can be harmful to your
health, inflammable or explo-
sive. Suitable protective meas-
ures are necessary.
Examples: Dust from beech- or
oak wood is carcinogenic. Use
suitable dust-/wood chip extrac-
tion and wear dust respirator.
Dust from light alloys can burn
or explode. Always keep the
work place clean, as blends of
materials are particularly dan-
gerous.
External Vacuuming
The machine can be plugged directly into the re-
ceptacle of a Bosch general-purpose vac with re-
mote starting control. The vac starts automati-
cally when the Rotocut is switched on.
The vacuum cleaner must be suitable for the ma-
terial to be worked.
When vacuuming dry dust that is especially detri-
mental to health or carcinogenic, use a special
vacuum cleaner.
Bosch offers suitable vacuum cleaners for all ma-
terials to be worked.
For dust extraction using an external vacuum
cleaner, a suction adapter must be used in this
case (see accessories). Insert the suction
adapter and suction hose fixture firmly.
Internal Vacuuming
For small jobs, work with the dust bag (optional
extra). Insert the dust bag connection piece into
the dust ejector 2. Empty the dust bag regularly
to maintain an optimum vacuuming function.
Advancing too fast significantly reduces the
performance capability of the machine and
reduces the service life of the saw blade.
Sawing performance and cut quality depend es-
sentially on the condition and the tooth form of the
saw blade. Therefore, use only sharp saw blades
that are suited for the material to be worked.
Wood
The correct selection of the saw blade depends
on the type and quality of the wood and whether
lengthways or crossways cutting is required.
When cutting spruce lengthways long spi-
ral chips are formed.
Beech and oak dusts are especially detrimental
to health and therefore may be worked only with
dust vacuuming.
Plastic (Type CE)
When sawing plastic, especially PVC, long,
spiral shaped shavings are produced that
can be electrostatically charged.
As a result, the dust ejector 2 can become
clogged and jam the swinging protective guard 7.
It is best to use dust vacuuming.
Apply the switched on machine against the work
piece and carefully start sawing. Saw in a brisk
manner without interruptions which prevents the
saw teeth from sticking so quickly.

Non-Ferrous Metal (Type CE)
Use only a sharp saw blade that is suitable
for the material. This ensures a clean cut
and prevents the jamming of the saw
blade.
Apply the switched on machine to the work piece,
start sawing carefully, then saw with slow ad-
vancing and without interruption.
For profile pieces, always start on the small side;
for U-profiles, never begin the cut on the open
side.
Support long profile pieces, otherwise the saw
blade will jam when the piece falls down and the
machine can kick back.
Materials with Mineral Content
(Light Construction Material) (Type CE)
Only dry cutting is permitted.
Work only with a guide rail 27 (optional extra).
Use dust vacuuming. The vacuum cleaner must
be approved for the extraction of masonry dust.
Parallel Guide
The parallel guide 8 enables exact cuts along a
work piece edge and cutting strips of the same di-
mension.
Sawing with an auxiliary guide
For cutting large work-pieces or straight edges:
Clamp a board or strip tightly to the work-piece as
an auxiliary guide using screw clamps. Guide the
base plate along the auxiliary guide.
Guide Rail (Optional Extra)
The guide rail 27 enables particularly exact cut-
ting, both vertically and mitred to 45°.
The adhesive coating prevents the guide rail from
slipping and protects the surface of the work
piece. The hard anodised coating of the guide rail
allows the circular saw to glide easily.
The rubber lip on the guide rail serves as a splin-
ter guard, which avoids fraying of the surface
when sawing wooden materials. For this, the
teeth of the saw blade must lie directly against the
rubber lip.
When working with the guide rail 27, the guide
adapter 26 (accessory) is fundamentally re-
quired.
For exact cuts using the guide rail 27 pro-
ceed as follows:
Place the guide rail onto the work-piece pro-
jecting slightly over the side. Make sure that
the end with the rubber lip is directed towards
the saw blade (fig. I).
Insert the guide adapter 26 in the seat for
the parallel guide. For pre-adjustment with dif-
ferent cutting angles mind the mark on the
guide adapter 26.
Place the circular saw with pre-mounted guide
adapter 26 onto the guide rail 27 and set the
cutting angle and cutting depth.
When setting the cutting depth make sure that
the cutting depth is reduced by the height of
the guide rail.
Align the circular saw with the aid of the guide
adapter 26 in such a way that the teeth of the
saw blade lie against the edge of the rubber lip.
Make sure that the guide rail is not sawn into
(fig. II and III).
Tighten the winged screw for the parallel
guide 16 to ensure a firm connection between
the guide adapter 26 and the circular saw.
Remove the circular saw from the guide
rail 27.
Place the guide rail on the work-piece in such
a way that the rubber lip lies exactly along the
cutting edge (crack line) and tighten using
screw clamps 29.

The guide rail 27 must not extend over
the work piece side to be sawed.
Apply the circular saw and make sure that the
guide adapter 26 is sitting firmly.
Guide the circular saw across the material,
pushing lightly at a constant pressure.
Note: Using the joining piece 28 (accessory)
two guide rails can be joined together. Clamping
is effected by means of the four screws located in
the joining piece.
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
For safe and proper working, always keep
the machine and the ventilation slots clean.
The swinging protective guard must always be
able to move freely and close on its own accord.
Therefore, always keep the area around the
swinging protective guard clean. Remove dust
and chips by blowing out with compressed air or
with a brush.
If the machine should fail despite the rigorous
manufacturing and testing procedures, repair
should be carried out by an authorised after-sales
service centre for Bosch power tools.
Saw blades that are not coated can be protected
against corrosion with a thin coat of acid-free oil.
Before use, the oil must be removed again, oth-
erwise the wood will become soiled.
Resin and glue residue on the saw blade produce
poor cuts. Therefore, clean the saw blade imme-
diately after use.
In all correspondence and spare parts orders,
please always include the 10-digit order number
given on the nameplate of the machine.
WARNING! Important instructions for con-
necting a new 3-pin plug to the 2 wire cable.
The wires in the cable are coloured according to
the following code:
Do not
connect the blue or brown wire to the
earth terminal of the plug.
Important: If for any reason the moulded plug is
removed from the cable of this machine it must be
disposed of safely.
