Care and Use:
Stainless Steel is a modern, classy material best known for its durability and antibacterial
properties. Stainless steel is nearly impossible to stain and is resistant to heat. The soft tone of
stainless steel can reflect natural light making the kitchen appear brighter and more attractive.
With minimal care and maintenance, your stainless steel countertop will last a lifetime.
The following procedures will help provide this lasting service life:
Use mild dish soap and water for cleaning; then buff dry to prevent water spots. A high end
Foaming Glass cleaner (such as Zep window cleaner) can also be used to clean the surface of
stainless steel countertops/bars. For tough areas that soapy water can’t handle, just mix a little
baking soda and dish soap together making a paste; apply to the tough area and using a
toothbrush or soft nylon brush, gently scrub and then rinse with warm water. There are also
dedicated stainless steel cleaners available that have oil in it to make your countertop shine.
Scratches can be reconditioned if they are shallow, although the nicks and marks of daily use
give stainless steel a nice patina over time. To prevent scratches, do not use steel wool or other
abrasive scrubbing pads. There are also finishes available that can mask or camouflage
scratches. Do not use chlorine bleach or oven cleaners on stainless steel; this will leave dark
spots. It is not necessary, but a wax or an oil can be applied from time to time to retain the satin
finish and provide some resistance to further weathering. You may also use Pledge furniture
polish or the equivalence of it to make your countertop/bar shine. The frequency of these
applications would be dependent on the usage and age of the stainless.
