Introduction
Thank you for choosing a Metz product, we are delighted that you have become
a Metz customer.
We expect that you will be excited to begin using your mecalight straight away, but recommend
that you read the operating manual, because it is the best way to get the most from your meca-
light light and avoid difficulties.
This mecalight is suitable for:
• Illumination of subjects during shooting with an image recording device.
Note: the mecalight light is not suitable for:
– full room illumination
– illumination purposes other than stated above.
Please keep these operating instructions in a secure place and pass them on to the new owner
if you sell the unit or pass it on in some other way.

The delivery contents of a light consist of:

jack (inside diameter 2.5 mm for external power supply)
dimmer controller (only for mecalight 320/480)
thread for tripod, mecalight Flex-Arm FH-100 (accessory)
synchronising contact for connecting multiple lights together
(only possible in combination with mecalight LED-160)
The mecalight light is characterized by:

- expandable through a flexible connector system

Safety instructions
If the housing has been damaged in such a way that internal components are exposed,
the light unit may no longer be used. Remove the batteries!
• Only use the power sources designated and autho-rised in the operating manual !
• Do not open the batteries or short them!
• In no event the batteries be exposed to high temperatures like direct sunlight, fire or similar!
• Never throw flat/dead batteries onto a fire!
• Do not use any toxic batteries or rechargeable batteries!
• Remove the used batteries immediately from the device! Chemicals can escape from used
batteries (so-called “leaks”) resulting in damage to the device!
• Batteries may not be recharged!
• Do not expose the flash unit to water drops and splashes!
• Protect your light unit from heat and high air humidity! Do not keep it in the glove compart-
ment of your car!

Power supply
mecalight LED-160 (2x),

nickel-metal-hydride rechargeable batteries

1.2 V,

• alkaline-manganese dry batteries
1.5 V, type IEC LR6 (AA / mignon).
The mecalight lights mecalight LED-320 and
mecalight LED-480 can also be operated with
a 4.8 – 9V power supply.
Attention -polarity
Please only use the power sources given
above. If other power sources are used, there
is a risk of damaging the light unit.
If your light unit is not going to be used for
an extended period of time, remove the
batteries.
When inserting batteries, ensure that the
polarity is correct and matches the symbols
in the battery compartment. Inserting the
batteries in the wrong direction can destroy
the flash unit!
Always replace all batteries simultaneously,
and make sure that batteries are the same
brand and have the same capacity. Flat or
dead batteries should not be disposed of with
ordinary household waste. Help protect the
environment, and dispose of flat/dead
batteries at the appropriate collection points.
None of the types of power supplies are
included in the delivery.

When the voltage of the power source is
too low, the mecalight begins to blink.
Assembling the mecalight light
• With the supplied device holder, the light can be pushed into the mounting foot of a
camcorder or camera with a video function.
• Secure the light with the clamping wheels.
• The light can also be mounted on a tripod with the supplied device holder.
• Remove the protective film before using the lights.
Installing the diffuser
The supplied diffusers ensure a pleasant, soft light and can be easily attached and removed
with the magnetic holders.

Combining mecalight lights
The three lights mecalight LED-320, mecalight LED-160
and mecalight LED-480 can be combined together by
means of their track system. The mecalight LED-160
always constitutes the middle part in this case.
The mecalights, which are pushed on from the side, are
mechanically secured by the mecalight LED-160.
To release and pull off the mecalights, which are attached on the side, press the
locking buttons together and pull up and off.
The mecalight LED-320 and mecalight LED-480 can be dimmed with the hand-wheel.
In a combination of three, the mecalight LED-320 and mecalight LED-480 can be dimmed with
the hand-wheel.
The “master light” for common dimming is the light in the combination that is switched on first
