2. General safet regulaons and protecve measures
The manufacturer and users of the plant / machine on which the installaon is being used are responsible
for implemenng and following all applicable safety regulaons and rules.
The protecon guarantees a level of funconal safety on its own, but does not ensure the safety of
the enre plant / machine. The safety of the enre plant / machine must, therefore, be assessed in
accordance with machinery direcve 2006/42/EC or appropriate product norm before using the device.
The operang instrucons must always be available at the place of installaon of the protecon.
They must be read thoroughly and observed by all persons involved in the operaon, maintenance and
servicing of the protecon.
The protecon must only be installed and commissioned by professionals familiar with these operang
instrucons and the applicable operaonal safety and accident prevenon regulaons.
All of the instrucons provided in these operang instrucons must be observed and followed.
All electrical work must only be performed by skilled electricians.
All relevant electrical engineering and Employer's Liability Insurance Associaon safety regulaons must
be observed.
During work on the switching unit, it is to be switched to zero potenal, checked to ensure that it is at
zero potenal and protected against being restarted.
If the potenal-free contacts of the relay output are supplied externally with a dangerous voltage, make
certain that these outputs are also switched o during work on the switching unit.
The switching unit does not contain any components that require servicing by the user.
Unauthorised conversions and repairs made to the switching unit will void all guarantees and the
manufacturers liability.
The protecon system is to be professionally inspected at appropriate intervals and be documented in
such a way that it is comprehensible at all mes.
Safet advice
Do not install in the immediate vicinity of strong sources of heat.
For capacive and inducve loads, ensure adequate protecve circuits.
It is not permissible to operate the safety relay while the housing is open.
The manufacturer assumes no liabilit in the event of non-observance or intenonal
abuse.

3. General
The SK 32 switching unit, designed with two channels, is used for evaluang safety contact mats and for
safeguarding locaons where there is a risk of crushing and cung through the use of safety contact edges
and safety bumpers.
The switching unit complies with EN ISO 13849-1:2008, Cat. 3. To meet Cat. 3 requirements, the switching
unit has a redundant structure with two, two-way polling, forcibly actuated safety relays per channel. A
terminang resistor is integrated in the sensor in order to enable monitoring of the standby current. If the
specied standby current is owing, the output relays are acvated and the switching contacts are closed. If
the sensor is actuated or the sensor circuit is interrupted, the corresponding relay switching contacts open.
The switching states of the relays and the applied operang voltage are indicated by LEDs.
4. Proper use
The SK 32-24 switching unit can only full its safety-related task if used properly.
The switching unit is intended to be used as protecon in combinaon with safety contact mats, safety bumpers
and safety contact edges with 8.2 k terminang resistor.
Any uses above and beyond these uses constute improper use. The manufacturer assumes no liability for
damages arising from improper use.
The device may only be used in special applicaons with the manufacturer’s express consent.

6. Commissioning
6.1 Prerequisites
The supply voltage used must comply with the requirements for Protecve safety low voltage (SELV).
Cables installed outdoors or outside of the switching cabinet must be protected appropriately.
The limit values for the supply voltage and the switching capacity of the relay specied in the "technical
specicaons" are to be observed.
6.2 Connecng the suppl voltage
• Connect 24 V AC/DC supply voltage to terminal pair 8 9.
6.3 Connecng the sensors
Connect the sensor for channel 1 to terminal pair 3 11.
If several SCEs are being used, they must be
connected in series and the end edge
must be terminated using an 8.2 k
resistor.
Connect the sensor for channel 2 to terminal pair 3 10.
If a channel is not used, it must be connected to an 8.2 kΩ resistor.
6.4 Connecng the control circuit
The control circuit to be monitored for channel 1 is to be connected to terminal
pair 4 5 and the corresponding control circuit for channel 2 is to be connected to
terminal pair 6 7.
Both outputs are redundant and self-monitoring with forcibly actuated relays and
thus comply with the safety category 3 requirements in accordance with EN ISO
13849-1:2008 and the requirements of all relevant standards governing gates.
Upon successful commissioning, the outputs of the safety relays are acvated (relay contact "closed"). An
actuaon of the sensor causes the corresponding relay contacts to open.

6.6 Connecon of mulple sensors per sensor circuit
ASO sensors must not be connected in parallel.
One or more sensors (e.g. safety contact edges) can be connected to sensor inputs 3 11 or 3 10. For this
purpose, the individual sensors can be connected in series.
An unused input can be bridged with an 8.2k resistor. k resistor.k resistor.

Safet edges SKL:
Up to ve SKL may be connected in series. The maximum total length o the SKL shall not exceed 100 m.
The length of one SKL may be up to 25 m.
The total cable length o the in series connected SKL must not exceed 25 m.
Safet bumper ASB:
Up to ve ASB may be connected in series. The maximum total length o the ASB shall not exceed 15 m.
The length of one ASB may be up to 3 m.
The total cable length o the in series connected ASB must not exceed 25 m.
Safet contact mat ASK:
Up to ten ASK may be connected in series. The maximum total area shall not exceed 10 m
2
.
The maximum size of an ASK is 1350 x 2350 mm.
The total cable length o the in series connected ASK must not exceed 25 m.
Before connecng the sensors that are connected in series, it is recommended that the resistance value of
the arrangement is to be measured. The resistance must be 8.2 k ± 500 when the sensor is inacve and
must not exceed 500 when it is acve.
6.7 Funconal test
The plant / machine must be tested for proper funcon aer all of the electrical connecons have been
established and the supply voltage has been turned on.
Actuate the sensors in sequence.
Check the switching units for proper reacon.
The safety system must be professionally inspected at appropriate intervals.
The inspecon must be documented in such a way as to be comprehensible at all mes.
The requirements of the plant/machine manufacturer are to be taken into account and followed.
7. Error diagnosis
Only the green Power LED may illuminate if the supply voltage has been correctly connected. If one of the
red LEDs illuminates, there is an error in the system which can be pinpointed with the aid of the LEDs.
If such an error is signalled, the connecons of the individual sensors should be inspected
. If the error is not
at the connecons, the funcon of the electronics can be tested by connecng an
8.2 k
resistor
to all sensor
inputs on the electronics (terminals 3 10 and terminals 3 11)
.
If the electronics work perfectly aer performing
the test, the sensors must be checked using an ohmmeter. To do this, the respecve connecon of the
sensor
to the safety relay must be disconnected and connected to an ohmmeter
. The resistance must be 8.2 k
±500
when the sensor is inacve and must not exceed 500
when it is acve.
8. Taking out of service and disposal
The products manufactured by ASO are intended solely for commercial use (B2B). At the end of use, the
products are to be disposed of according to all local, regional and naonal regulaons. Products can also be
returned to ASO, which will then dispose of them properly.
