Performance Data For Projection Systems
Safety Certifications:
All BARCO products are designed and manufac-
tured with the highest level of product safety in
mind. The basic product design conforms with the
requirements in the safety standards of
Underwriters Laboratories UL 1950 (UL 114 for
BARCO System Retros) and CEBEC/NE 60950.

of useable light output below
the 50% level, which may result
in greatly extended CRT life
expectancies.
Metal Halide Lamp Life
Expectancy:
The lifetime of a LCD projection
Metal Halide Lamp is defined to
be the point in time at which the
light output becomes limited to
50% of its maximum value when
the lamp was new. With the
above in mind, a Metal Halide
Lamp lifetime of 1000 hours is
typical for most applications.
Long Life Lamps are available as
an option.
X-Ray Radiation:
BARCO CRT projectors comply
with the S-ray radiation limits in
21 CRF Subchapter and EN60950.
Typical emissions are less than 0.2
mREM/Hour at a distance of 5 cm
from projector surface.
Electromagnetic Interference
(conducted and radiated):
All projectors comply with FCC
Rules and Regulations, 47 CFR,
part 15, Subpart B, Class A.
Several BARCO projectors comply
with FCC Rules and Regulations,
47 CFR, part 15, subpart B, Class
B.
Thermal Dissipation:
Typical dissipation in normal
operation:
700 series:300 W- 1024 BTU/hour
808 series:500 W- 1707 BTU/hour
Retro 808 series:550 W - 1878 BTU/hour
1209 series:590 W-2014 BTU/hour
3200 series:970 W-3312 BTU/hour
5000 series:870 W-2969 BTU/hour
8000 series:880 W-3003 BTU/hour
5000 series:2000 W-6827BTU/hour
Mean Time Between Failures
(MTBF):
Estimated MTBF: 20.000 hours
typical; consumables not included
(eg CRTs, Lamps, etc). The MTBF
figure is measured according to
the MIL Handbook 217E specifi-
cation and has been confirmed
by extensive field testing and
laboratory reliability analysis.
Mean Time To Repair (MTTR):
Due to advanced modular con-
struction, the MTTR is typically
less than 30 minutes. This interval
is usually sufficient time for a
trained technician to locate and
isolate the fault to a particular
circuit module, replace the mod-
ule and realign the projector as
required.
CRT Life Expectancy:
All BARCO projection systems are
designed to consistently provide
the highest possible light output
and resolution without sacrificing
CRT longevity. However, the actu-
al life expectancy of a projection
CRT depends largely on what
type of images are to be dis-
played, and at what light out-put
level the projector is required to
operate at. Variables such as
ambient lighting can have a pre-
vailing influence on the latter
and thus are important consider-
ations when estimating CRT life
expectancies for a given applica-
tion. The lifetime of a projection
CRT is defined to be the point in
time at which the light output
becomes limited to 50% of its
maximum value when the CRT
was new. With the above in
mind, a CRT lifetime of approxi-
mately 4000-7000 hours can be
anticipated for most typical
applications. In practice, the CRT
can still produce a certain degree
Vibration:
5 - 8 Hz constant amplitude of
3.7 mm
8 - 200 Hz constant acceleration
of 1.0 g
Temperature:
Storage: -30 to +65 ºC
Operation: 0 to +40 ºC
Temperature Shock:
-35 to +80 ºC
(Non-Operating Projector, max. 2
hour shock)
Humidity:
Storage: 0 - 98% RH Non-
condensing
Operation: 0-95% RH Non-
condensing
Altitude:
Storage:0- 12000 m; 166 mB
Operation:0- 3000 m; 570 mB
(according to MIL-STD-810C 500.1-I)
Environmental Test:
In order to ensure maximum reli-
ability in varying environmental
conditions, all CRT projectors are
subject to a continuous 100 hour
burn-in and all LCD projectors
are subject to a continuous 24
hour burn-in, as a part of the
normal factory production
process.
