When using the JUNO-106 for the rst time, you must specify the MIDI Input/Output setting in
the Setup window (p. 14).

There are two views for the main window.
Press the [EDIT/BROWSE] button (p. 4) in the header to switch between the views (screens).

Main Window
Header (common for all views)
* This only works with the JUNO-106 model on the SYSTEM-8.
Bank name
Shows the name of the selected bank.
Patch name
Shows the name of the selected patch.
[ ] (RATING)
Shows the rating of the selected patch.
NOTES
Shows the note for the selected patch.
[ ] [ ] buttons
Selects the previous (or next) patch.
[EDIT/BROWSE] button
Switches between the EDIT and BROWSE screens.
[ ] button
Opens the Patch Manager window, where you can save, export and load patches.
You can also right-click this button to save the temporary patch you’re editing to the
currently selected patch, without opening the Patch Manager window.
[ ] (Menu) button
Shows the menu for the settings.

Inserts the SYSTEM-8 into the JUNO-106. p. 12
[SEND] button

Zoom
Drag the bottom-right corner of the
window to resize (zoom).
EDIT Screen
This screen is designed to look like the
JUNO-106. You can set the detailed
parameters on this screen.
[TUNE] knob
Adjusts the overall pitch of the
JUNO-106.
[HELP] button
Shows the help contents.
This is the same as “HELP” in the menu.
[ABOUT] button
Shows information about the
JUNO-106.
This is the same as ABOUT in the
menu.
[OPTION] button
Configures the skin and MIDI control
mapping.
This can be set individually if you’re
using more than one JUNO-106.
[SETUP] button
Configures the MIDI settings (Mac/Win)
and the mouse scroll direction (Mac only).
These settings are common when running
multiple instances of the JUNO-106.
This is the same as “Setup in the menu.

Keyboard area
Click on the keys to hear the sound. The corresponding keys react when MIDI messages are
received.
The velocity changes depending on where you click the keys.
Click the keys up higher (closer to the control panel) for lower velocities down to the minimum,
and click the keys down lower (further away from the control panel) for higher velocities up to
the maximum.
Use the mouse wheel to shift the keyboard octave.
[CONDITION] knob
This simulates the slight degradation of the analog sound generator circuit over the passage of several decades, which might occur on the
original JUNO-106 model.
With this condition as the zero point, you can increase the value to simulate even more degradation for a warmer, more imprecise sound
that’s characteristic of analog circuitry; or you can decrease the value to simulate a more ideal sound with less degradation over time.

Screen Layout
LFO
Here you can create cyclic change (modulation) in the sound.
RATE Determines the speed of the LFO.
DELAY TIME Specifies the time from when the key is pressed until
the LFO’s amplitude reaches the maximum.
KEY TRIG
switch
Specifies whether the LFO cycle starts at the
moment you press the key (ON) or is not
synchronized with the key-press (OFF).
TRIG ENV
switch
If this is ON, the envelope starts repeatedly at
intervals of the LFO cycle.
HPF
This is a high-pass filter that passes the high frequencies and cuts
the low frequencies.
FREQ
Specifies the cutoff frequency of the high-pass filter.
Frequency components below the cutoff frequency
are cut.
VCF
This is a low-pass filter that passes the low frequencies and cuts the
high frequencies.
VELOCITY
SENS
Adjusts the sensitivity with which the low pass filter
is affected by your keyboard dynamics.
FREQ
Specifies the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter.
Frequency components above the cutoff frequency
are cut, making the sound mellower.
RES
Resonance boosts the sound in the region of the
filter’s cutoff frequency.
Higher settings produce stronger emphasis, creating
a distinctively synthesizer-like” sound.
ENV-1 Adjusts the depth by which the ENV-1 controls the
cutoff frequency.
LFO Uses the LFO to vary the cutoff frequency.
KYBD
Adjusts the way in which the pitch of the note
affects the cutoff frequency (key follow) when using
the keyboard to control cutoff frequency. Moving
the slider downward causes the cutoff frequency to
fall as you play higher on the keyboard.
DCO
Here you can select the waveform that determines the character of
the sound, and specify its pitch.
RANGE Specifies the octave of the oscillator.
LFO Allows the LFO to modulate the pitch, producing a
vibrato effect.
PULSE

Adjusts the value of the pulse width.
When the switch is “LFO”, “E1+”, “E1-”, “E2+”, “E2-”:
Adjusts the modulation depth.

SUB Adjusts the volume of the sub oscillator.

affected by your keyboard dynamics.
TONE Adjusts the tonal character.

Selects whether the volume is controlled by ENV
(envelope) or by the gate signal.
LEVEL Adjusts the volume.

This switches the type of chorus.
OFF Chorus is not applied.

TEMPO/KEY ASSIGN
TEMPO SYNC
Synchronizes the speed (RATE) of the modulation
produced by the LFO section as well as the delay
time (TIME) of the EFFECT section to the tempo.
MONO Plays monophonically.
UNISON Plays all sounds in unison.
POLY-1 Plays polyphonically.
POLY-2
PORTAMENTO/PITCH BEND/MODULATION
PORTAMENTO Adjusts the time over which pitch change occurs when portamento is applied.
TYPE
1: The pitch changes within the time specified in PORTAMENTO, regardless of
the distance between the keys you press.
2: The pitch changes at the speed specified in PORTAMENTO, regardless of the
distance between the keys you press.
LEGATO Applies portamento only when you play legato (i.e., when you press the next
key before releasing the previous key).
BEND RANGE Specifies the amount of pitch bend range.
BEND GAIN Specifies a multiplier for the BEND RANGE, extending the range of change.
BEND SENS DCO Specifies the amount of the pitch change produced by pitch bend operations.
BEND SENS VCF Specifies the amount of the filter change produced by pitch bend operations.
MOD SENS DCO Specifies the amount of the pitch change produced by modulation operations.
MOD SENS VCF Specifies the amount of the filter change produced by modulation operations.
ARPEGGIO
ARPEGGIO Turns the arpeggio function on/off.
ARP TYPE Selects the arpeggio type.
ARP STEP Selects the length of one note for each step.
OTHER
KEY HOLD Turns the key hold function on/off.
OCTAVE Let you shift the pitch range of the keyboard in
one-octave units.
NAME Specifies the name of the patch.
DISPLAY Displays the patch name.
DEC/INC Selects the previous (next) patch.
EFFECT/DELAY/REVERB
EFFECT TYPE Selects the effect type.
TONE Specifies the character of the effect.
DEPTH Specifies the depth of the effect.
DELAY TYPE Switches the delay type.
TIME Adjusts the delay time.
LEVEL Adjusts the depth of delay.
REVERB TYPE Switches the reverb type.
TIME Specifies the reverb time.
LEVEL Specifies the reverb volume.
EDIT Screen
CIRCUIT MOD (Circuit Modication)
(AMOUNT)
Simulates the calibration trimmer on the motherboard.
Raising the value creates more differences in calibration between
the voices, adding a unique kind of unevenness or expressiveness
to the sound.
The state of the calibration starting point (0) controlled by the
trimmer differs with the [CONDITION] knob settings.

Bank list
Shows the names of the banks in your library.
The contents of the banks you select are shown in the patch list at the center of
the screen.
You can select multiple banks at the same time.
• Drag to select a range.
• Click while holding down the Ctrl key (Windows).
• Click while holding down the Command/Cmd key (Mac).
Click a previously selected bank again to deselect it.
If you haven’t selected any banks yet, all banks are automatically selected.
TWEAK panel
Use this screen to operate the main parameters.
* You can also hide this from the menu.
Patch list
Shows a list of patches.
[ ]
Filters the patch list according to the characters you input.
* Click the headers to sort in ascending/descending order for each column.
[BANK]
Shows the name of the bank.
Click to select a patch.
[NAME]
Shows the name of the patch.
Click to select a patch.
[RATING]
Shows the ratings.
Click to add a rating for a patch.
[NOTES]
Shows any optional notes.
Click to edit the note.
You can input up to 40 characters in a note.

TWEAK Panel
VCF
A low-pass filter that allows the lower frequencies to pass through while filtering out the higher
frequencies.
CUTOFF Sets the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter. The frequency
components above the cutoff frequency are filtered out.
RESONANCE Adjusts the resonance. Larger values produce greater emphasis,
creating a unique synthesizer-like sound.
VCA
Adjusts how the envelope works, to apply time-based changes to the volume.
LEVEL Adjusts the volume.
DELAY
DELAY/CHORUS Adjusts the intensity of the delay and chorus effects.
REVERB
REVERB Adjusts the volume of the reverb.
AMP ENVELOPE
These sliders control the envelope for time-based changes to the volume.
ATTACK Adjusts how quickly the volume rises (the attack).
DECAY Adjusts how much time it takes for the sound to decay to the
sustain level.
SUSTAIN Adjusts the level at which the sound sustains while the key is
pressed (note-on).
RELEASE Adjusts the time it takes for the sound to fade out (release) after
the key is released (note-off ).

Details View
This view shows the details of the patches within the banks.
You can see the ratings and notes in the list for each patch as well.
1. Click the [ ] button in the header.
The Patch Manager window appears.
2. Click the [ ] button.
A group of 64 patches is
called a “bank”.

Saves your edited tone as a patch into a bank.
1. You can select the save destination patch from

By connecting the SYSTEM-8 to your computer (Mac/Windows), you can use the JUNO-106 in
conjunction with the SYSTEM-8.
The “SYSTEM-8 CTRL shown as a MIDI port is the port used by the JUNO-106.
Do not use this port from your DAW.
Plug-Out
What is a “Plug-out”?
“Plug-out is technology that allows a software synthesizer such
as JUNO-106 to be installed and used in the SYSTEM-8.
5You can play the JUNO-106 on the SYSTEM-8 by itself, without
using a computer.
5You can send the settings of the selected bank to the
SYSTEM-8.
5You can use the knobs and sliders of the SYSTEM-8 to edit the
sound.
Plug-Out Procedure
1. Click the [PLUG-OUT] button.
2. Select a plug-out destination (PLUG-OUT1–PLUG-OUT3) that corresponds to the
desired MODEL button of the SYSTEM-8.
A conrmation message appears.
3. Click the [OK] button.
A progress bar appears, and plug-out processing begins. This takes approximately one minute.
* If the JUNO-106 is already plugged-out to one of the plug-out destinations (PLUG-OUT1–
PLUG-OUT3), you can’t plug-out a new instance.
* If another software synthesizer is already plugged-out on the SYSTEM-8, a conrmation
message appears. Click the [OK] button to continue.
Send/Get Temporary Patch
1. Connect the SYSTEM-8 to your computer.
2. Turn on the SYSTEM-8’s MODEL [PLUGOUT 1–3] button to which you plugged-out
the JUNO-106.
* In order to send or get a temporary patch, you must rst plug-out (p. 12).
* The contents of RATING and NOTES are not sent or received.
Sending the Temporary Patch
You can send the current JUNO-106 temporary patch to the SYSTEM-8 and play it on the
SYSTEM-8.
The sound is output from the SYSTEM-8’s OUTPUT jacks.
3. Click the [SEND] button of the JUNO-106.
The temporary patch is transmitted.
Getting the Temporary Patch
If you’ve used the SYSTEM-8 to edit a temporary patch of the plugged-out JUNO-106, here’s
how to load that temporary patch into the JUNO-106.
4. Click the [GET] button of the JUNO-106.
The temporary patch is loaded.
Playing with the SYSTEM-8
If an error message appears, check the following items.
5Is the MIDI port specied correctly? (p. 14)
5Is the SYSTEM-8 connected to your computer?
5Is the SYSTEM-8’s MODEL [PLUG-OUT 1–3] button turned on?
5Is the JUNO-106 plugged-out on the SYSTEM-8? (p. 12)
If an error message appears, check the following items.
5Is the MIDI port specied correctly? (p. 12)
5Is the SYSTEM-8 connected to your computer?

Playing with the SYSTEM-8
MIDI Learn Function
Heres how to associate a MIDI control change with a sound parameter, so that the parameter
can be controlled by that MIDI message.
Procedure
1. Right-click the sound parameter controller (knob or slider).
2. Choose “Learn MIDI CC.
3. Operate your external MIDI device to transmit a control change message.
NOTE
You can’t associate more than one MIDI control change with a single controller. Only the
most recent setting is used.
Cancelling
1. Right-click the sound parameter controller (knob or slider).
2. Choose “Forget MIDI CC”.

SYSTEM-8 Layout: Arranges the controls the same as the SYSTEM-8.
(Dark): Uses a darker panel color.
(Light): Uses a lighter panel color.

Analog Meter
Scope
Changes the header’s output view.
Digital Meter: Uses a bar graph meter.
Analog Meter: Uses a needle indicator meter.
Scope: Shows the waveform.
TWEAK Panel Shows/hides the TWEAK panel.
Set MIDI Control Mapping
for SYSTEM-8 Uses the SYSTEM-8 as a control surface for the MIDI control change message mapping.
Clear MIDI Control Mapping Clears (reverts) all the MIDI control change message mapping.
2–8 Voices Sets the maximum polyphony.
A lower polyphony setting reduces the load on the CPU.
Optimize for Lower CPU
Usage If notes are getting cut off due to high CPU usage, set this to ON.
Setup... Opens the settings screen.
Authentication... Performs user authentication for the JUNO-106.
Help... Displays the Owners Manual (PDF).
About... Displays the About screen.
Setting
1. Click the [SETUP] button.
The Setup screen opens.
* Flip Scroll Direction is only on Mac.
2. Edit the parameters.

If you want to use the SYSTEM-8 to play the JUNO-106 (plug-in) in your DAW, set the
SYSTEM-8’s menu item “SYSTEM” 0 “SOUND” 0 “Local Sw to “SURFACE”.
The internal sound engine of the SYSTEM-8 no longer produces sound; only the JUNO-106 can
produce sound.
