Known Issues
1. Known issues regarding updating firmware.
The following notes apply to updating firmware on Emulex OCe14000-series adapters for
this release.
After an adapter has been flashed to firmware version 10.2.261.36 or later, do not attempt
to flash down to an older version without first contacting Lenovo System X support.
Lenovo System X support provides a special required downgrade flash procedure. If this
procedure is not followed, there is a risk in making the adapter permanently unusable.
If the adapter in use is currently running firmware 10.0.803.2202 or earlier and iSCSI boot
firmware table (iBFT) functionality is required, special steps must be followed when
upgrading to this release. The flash method to use is the Emulex OneConnect
®
Offline
Flash ISO, which allows flashing in a single step.
To upgrade and enable iBFT functionality with online tools, the most recent version of
the NIC driver, the Emulex OneCommand
®
Manager application, and the Broadcom
Emulex CIM Provider must first be installed. Additionally, the firmware must be flashed
twice with a reboot after each flash.
2. Broadcom provides event notifications only for link up and link down events.
Workaround
None.
3. The inbox iSCSI driver installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.1/6.2 or SUSE
Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP1 distributions does not support CIM Provider
functionality.
When the inbox iSCSI driver is installed on RHEL 6.1/6.2 or SLES 11 SP1 distributions, the
CIM Provider is unable to configure and monitor the Broadcom Emulex adapter.
Workaround
Update the iSCSI driver to a new release for normal CIM Provider functionality.
4. Running diagnostic loopback tests with the
infinite option is not supported.
Workaround
None.
5. Associations for some of the indication profile implementation classes are not available
due to limitations in the CIM model object manager (CIMOM).
Workaround
None.
6. Externally upgrading only one of the CIM Providers (FC or UCNA) causes some classes of
non-upgraded Broadcom Emulex CIM Providers to not enumerate.
Workaround
Upgrade both FC and UCNA CIM Providers.

7. On VMware platforms, indications are not supported.
Workaround
None.
8. On Windows Server (64-bit) platforms, the provider is 32 bit. Because the Lenovo CIMOM
is 32 bit, you must install a 32-bit Client URL (cURL) before you download firmware using
http/https, and you must also point the system path to the directory where the 32-bit DLL
is located.
Workaround
None.
9. Concurrent firmware upgrades performed on the same ESXi host might not be fully
copied.
If a firmware upgrade is attempted using the http protocol, the firmware file is copied to the
/filesystem of the ESXi system. This file is deleted after the firmware upgrade is complete.
Therefore, if concurrent firmware upgrades are performed on the same ESXi host, due to
space constraints, the firmware file might not be copied fully, and the firmware upgrades
might fail with an error.
Workaround
None.
10. Running a full core dump on an ESXi host fails.
Management interface library (MILI) fails to allocate memory for a segment that contains
ARM logs.
Workaround
Use the Broadcom Emulex OneCapture™ device driver utility to perform full core dumps.
For more information, refer to the OneCapture User Manual.
11. On VMware ESXi 5.5 systems, converged network adapters (CNAs) are not detected by the
CIM Provider, libelxflash, OneCapture, and OneKat applications with the 10.0.727.28 (or
prior) version of the I/O Vendor Program (IOVP)-certified NIC driver.
Workaround
Upgrade the NIC driver to version 10.4.x or later.
12. On ESXi 5.5 U1 systems, an
out of memory message is displayed in the syslog when the
provider is kept loaded and queried for an extended period of time.
Workaround
Update ESXi 5.5 U1 to ESXi 5.5 U2.
13. The Broadcom Emulex CIM Provider might crash on ESXi due to an issue in the VMware
sfcb version, which releases the
CMPIArray object twice.
Workaround
Use the VMware patches 51p08 and 55P07.

pub-005845
14. On Windows platforms, the Delete Dump fails on both FC and UCNA adapters.
Workaround
None.
15. The Emulex CIM Provider version 10.6.x or later fails to discover iSCSI ports on a card
running firmware version 10.5.x.
Workaround
Always use the firmware, the drivers, and the application from the same release.
16. Any change in the storage configuration might take some time (maximum 10 minutes) to
appear in the CIM Provider and ESXi plugin applications if the CIMOM is not restarted
after the change. This action is done to improve performance because frequent scanning of
storage can slow the response.
Workaround
Do one of the following after making a change to the storage configuration:
Wait for a maximum of 10 minutes for the changes to appear in the CIM Provider.
Manually restart the CIMOM to see the changes immediately.
Technical Tips
1. When the CIM Provider is installed to run on a guest operating system using the virtual
function Media Access Control (MAC) address, CIM active management commands fail
with incorrect error messages.
This behavior is expected because this functionality is not supported for devices discovered
on the guest operating system.
2. The Emulex CIM Provider displays the ESXi version supported by the kit along with the
kit version.
3. When using providers for an extended time period on ESXi 5.5 General Availability (GA),
memory leaks can occur. To avoid this issue, use ESXi 5.5 U2 instead.
