Caution:
Lifting the machine in an awkward position or
transporting it in a poorly balanced position could
result in personal injury. When transporting the
machine, assign an adequate number of persons
to the job and ensure that each person can take a
good position of not being excessively loaded.

I. Accessory parts
Note:
This manual provides the illustrations of the acces-
sory parts and machine that may be slightly differ-
ent in shape from yours. In that case, instead of
the illustrations, use the appearance of your
machine to follow the installation procedure. This
does not cause any significant change or problem
with the procedure.

Note:
The three supplied fixing legs are being packed
under the cushioning material. Turn the cush-
ioning material upside down to remove the fix-
ing legs.
When removing the paper feed cabinet from its
shipping carton, do not hold the reinforcement
bracket (as a personal injury or a deformed
frame could result).
When removing the paper feed cabinet from the
carton or carrying it, be sure to hold it by the
locations shown in the illustration.
II. Installation procedures
1. Turn off the machine and unplug the power cord
from the power outlet.
2. Remove the protective tape from the paper feed
cabinet.
Note:
Do not peel the tape that fixes the paper feed cab-
inet hookup harness in position until the machine
is attached to the paper feed cabinet.

3. Hold onto the portions indicated in the illustration,
place the machine onto the paper feed cabinet.
When placing the machine, use the positioning
pins in the rear of the paper feed cabinet to align
the machine correctly with the cabinet.
Note:
When transporting or moving the machines,
assign adequate number of persons.
When attaching the machine, as the reference
fit the machine with the corner A and B of the
paper feed cabinet.
4. Remove the cover from the back of the machine
as shown in the illustration. (One screw)
5. Peel the tape that fixes the paper feed cabinet
hookup harness in position.
6. Connect the two connectors of the paper feed
cabinet hookup harness to the machine.
7. Reinstall the cover which has been removed in
step 4. (One screw)

8. Secure the paper feed cabinet to the machine by
the two supplied fixing bracket A’s.
(Two supplied screws)
9. Slide out the second and third drawers from the
paper feed cabinet.
10. Perform the following steps (1) to (4) to screw
the machine and the paper feed cabinet
together.
(1) Insert the screw into the upper hole on the
machine and temporarily tighten the screw.
(One supplied screw)
(2) Hang the supplied fixing bracket B on the
screw indicated in step (1).
(3) Align the hole of the paper feed cabinet and
the lower hole of the fixing bracket B. Insert the
screw into the holes and tighten the screw.
(One supplied screw)
(4) Completely tighten the screw indicated in step
(1).
11. Install the supplied fixing bracket C (Right) to
secure the machine and the paper feed cabinet
together. (One supplied screw)
Note:
Be careful not to damage the sheets of mylar.

13. Move the machine and paper feed cabinet to the
installation site. Then, adjust the two adjusters
on the front side and the adjuster on the left rear
side to let the paper feed cabinet sit on the floor.
14. Install the supplied fixing legs (two pieces) at two
locations in the front shown in the illustration.
Tighten the screw into the hole As to install the
fixing leg. (Eight supplied screws)
Note:
If you install the finisher (FS-527) immediately
after the installation of the paper feed cabinet,
do not install the fixing leg or fixing leg cover A
at the left front side.
If the screw cannot be tightened into the hole
A’s because the machine is installed on cush-
ioned floor such as a carpet, use the hole B’s.
15. Install the supplied fixing leg cover As (two
pieces), following the steps below.
(1) While slightly pushing the left end of the fixing
leg cover A outward to get it stretched, put the
fixing leg cover on the fixing leg.
Note:
Make sure that the protruded portion shown in the
illustration is outside the fixing leg plate.
(2) Push the fixing leg cover A in the direction of
the arrow to install it.
Note:
Make sure that the tab of the protruded portion is
completely inserted into the hole (C).
To reduce the risk of injury due to unsta-
ble equipment, set stabilizers before use.

16. Install the fixing leg at the right rear corner of the
machine. Tighten the screw into the hole A’s to
install the fixing leg. (Four supplied screws)
Note:
If the screw cannot be tightened into the hole A’s
because the machine is installed on cushioned
floor such as a carpet, use the hole B’s.
17. Install the fixing leg cover A (right rear), following
the steps below.
(1) While slightly pushing the left end of the fixing
leg cover A outward to get it stretched, put the
fixing leg cover on the fixing leg.
Note:
Make sure that the protruded portion shown in the
illustration is outside the fixing leg plate.
(2) Push the fixing leg cover A in the direction of
the arrow to install it.
Note:
Make sure that the tab of the protruded portion is
completely inserted into the hole (C).
To reduce the risk of injury due to unsta-
ble equipment, set stabilizers before use.

18. Install the supplied fixing leg cover B (left rear).
(Two supplied screws)
19. Plug the power cord into the power outlet.
III. Loading paper
1. Slide out the third and fourth drawers.
2. Load the paper stack so that it rests below the tab
fitted to the edge guide.
Note:
Make sure that the top level of the paper stack
does not exceed the (MAX) paper level indi-
cator.
Slide the edge guide tightly up against the edge
of the paper stack so that there is no gap
between them.
With the trailing edge stop, fit its locking tab
properly into the slit at the correct paper size
position.
Correct any curl in the paper before loading.
3. Slide the drawers back in.
IV. Affixing the paper size label
Affix the paper size label to the location shown in the
illustration.
(The size label is similarly put on the fourth.)
V. Checking and Adjusting the Paper
Reference Position
<Centering>
1. Turn on the machine’s sub and main power
switches.
2. Display the Service Mode screen (For details of
how to display the Service Mode screen, see the
Service Manual).
3. Touch “Machine.”
4. Touch “Printer Area.”
5. Touch “Centering.”
6. Touch “3rd.” and then press the Start key.
A test print will be produced.
7. Measure width A from the edge of the paper to
the pattern printed on the test print and check that
it falls within the specified range.
Specifications: 3.0 mm ± 1.0 mm
Adjusting the paper reference position
If the measured width A falls outside the specified
range, enter the correction value using the or
key.
8. Produce another test print and check to see if
width A falls within the specified range.
* If the use of the or key does not allow
the measurement to fall within the specified
range, perform the following steps.

9. Slide out the drawer and unload paper from it.
10. Loosen the three screws shown in the illustra-
tion.
11. Watching the graduations provided in the
drawer, move the edge guide in the rear.
If width A is greater than the specified value,
move the edge guide toward the front.
If width A is smaller than the specified value,
move the edge guide toward the rear.
12. Load paper and let the machine produce
another test print. Then, check width A.
* Make the adjustment until width A falls within the
specified range.
13. Tighten the screws which has been loosened in
step 10.
14. Perform the same check and adjustment proce-
dures for the fourth drawer.
<Centering (Duplex 2nd side)>
1. Touch “Centering (Duplex 2nd side).”
2. Touch “3rd.” and then press the Start key.
A test print will then be produced.
3. Measure width A of the test pattern on the back-
side of the test print produced and check that it
falls within the specified range.
Specifications: 3.0 mm ± 2.0 mm
Adjusting the paper reference position
If the measured width A falls outside the specified
range, enter the correction value using the or
key.
4. Produce another test print and check to see if
width A falls within the specified range.
5. Perform the same check and adjustment proce-
dures for the fourth drawer.
6. Touch “END.”
7. Touch “Exit” on the Service Mode screen.
8. Turn OFF and ON the Main Power Switch.
Note:
When displayed the Service Mode screen, be sure
to turn off the main power after exiting the Service
Mode screen and wait for 10 seconds or more
before turning on.
