If You Need Service...
Do not attempt to repair or replace ang part
of the downdraft sgstem unless it is specificallg
recommended in this manual. All other servicing
should be referred to a qualified technician.
Be sure electrical power is off before servicing
the unit.
It mag be necessarg to remove the downdraft
blower sgstem in order to service components
such as the blower motor or air vent mechanism.
Disconnect power to the cooktop and remove
it first. Reversethe steps in the Install the
Downdraft section in the Installation Instructions
to remove the blower.
Service parts are available from a GEService and
Parts Center.

To use the
downdroft
sgstem
When
using the
downdroft
sgstem...
To r(]ise the downdr(]ft vent, press the ON/OFF
p(]d on the control. Thevent will rise.
Press the F(]n Speed HIGHERp(]d to st(]rt the
blower. Adjust the blower bg pressing HIGHERor
LOWER.The blower, if left on, will (]utom(]tic(]llg
turn off when the vent is lowered.
NOTE:For most convenient oper(]tion, set the
blower to the speed gou use most often. The
blower will come on to this speed whenever
the unit is r(]ised.
IMPORTANT:The vent c(]n be (]ctiv(]ted bg
pressing the p(]ds on the switch. Do not use
excessive force or sh(]rp objects to (]ctiv(]te
the switch. D(]m(]ge could occur (]nd void
the w(]rr(]ntg.
FAN SPEED
CAUTION: Bec(]refulwhenr(]ising
or lowering the downdr(]ft. Besure pots, pot
h(]ndles (]nd other objects (]re cle(]r of the
downdr(]ft (]nd c(]nnot be struck or tipped bg the
downdr(]ft being r(]ised.
NOTE:There is (]slight trim overh(]ng on e(]ch
side of the vent.
. To (]void injurg, be sure fingers (]re cle(]r of the
downdr(]ft cover when it is being lowered.
. Keep h(]nds (]nd fingers (]w(]g from (]11
downdr(]ft p(]rts.
IMPORTANT:If the vent isobstructed bg (]n
object while it is being r(]ised or lowered, it will
stop. Remove the obstruction (]nd press the ON/
OFFp(]d (]g(]in.
Cooking tips
Conning
The high (]ir movement of this downdr(]ft
sgstem c(]n incre(]se the cooking times for some
foods. It m(]g t(]ke longer to re(]ch high cooking
temper(]tures if the downdr(]ft isturned to high
right (]w(]g. Adjust the f(]n speed for best cooking
results.
For best results when he(]ting oil for deep frging
or when boiling w(]ter, use the front surf(]ce
units or w(]it until the w(]ter is boiling or the oil
is (]t frging temper(]tures before turning on the
downdr(]ft.
The downdr(]ft m(]g not completelg c(]pture (]11
the ste(]m from p(]ns on the front burners.
When c(]nning foods in (] w(]ter-b(]th c(]nner,
(] gentle but ste(]dg boil must be m(]int(]ined
continuouslg for the required time.
When c(]nning foods in (] pressure c(]nner, the
pressure must be m(]int(]ined continuouslg for
the required time.
Use of the blower on (] high f(]n speed setting
when c(]nning m(]g reduce the temper(]ture
enough to stop boiling. While c(]nning, we
recommend using the downdr(]ft (]t (] lower
speed (]nd using the front surf(]ce unit.
Careand Cleaning
Downdraft Vent System
Grease filters
Theefficiency of your downdraft depends on a
clean filter. Frequency of cleaning depends onthe
type of cooking you do.Greasefilters should be
cleaned at least once a month. Never operate the
downdraft without the filters in place.
To remove: Slipfingers into the vent holes,lift the
vent straight up and pull forward. Graspthe filter
tabs, push down and out of the retainer.
To clean: Soakand then agitate in a hot detergent
solution. Lightbrushing may be usedto remove
embedded soil.Rinse,shake and remove moisture
before replacing. Do not clean the filters in the
dishwasher.
With careful handling, the filter will last for years.
If replacement becomes necessary,order the part
from your dealer.

Painted or
stainless
steel
surfaces
Do not usea steel wool pad; it will scratch
the surface.
Toclean the stainless steel surface, usewarm,
sudsy water or a stainless steelcleaner or polish.
Always wipe the surface in the direction of the grain.
Followthe cleaner instructions for cleaning the
stainless steel surface.
Fordifficult stainson stainless steel,use a cleaner
that contains lacticacid or citric acid.

. Sufficient makeup (replacement) air is required for exhausting
appliances to operate to rating. Check with local building codes, which

REPARACION
Si necesito servicio t_cnico...
No intente reparar o cambiar ninguna pieza del
sistema de ventilaci6n de corriente descendente
a menos que est6 espec[ficamente recomendado
en este manual. Cualquier otto servicio debe
realizarlo un t6cnico calificado.
Asegt_resede cortar la electricidad antes
de efectuar servicio t6cnico en el aparato.
Puede resultar necesario quitar el sistema
de ventilaci6n de corriente descendente para
realizar servicio t@cnicoen componentes tales
como el motor del ventilador o el mecanismo
de ventilaci6n de aire.
Desconecte la energ[a que alimenta la estufa
g qu[tela en primer t@mino. Invierta los pasos
de la secci6n "C6mo instalar la corriente
descendente" en las Instrucciones de instalaci6n
para quitar el ventilador.

Cuando utilice
el sistema
de corriente
descendente...
Para levantar la ventilaci6n de corriente
descendente, presione el bot6n ON/OFF (encendido/
apagado) del control. La ventilaci6n
se elevara.
Presione el bot6n HIGHER (mas alta) de la velocidad
del ventilador para accionarlo. Ajuste la velocidad del
ventilador presionando HIGHER(m6s alta) o LOWER
(mas baja). Si se Io deja encendido, el ventilador
se apagara automaticamente cuando se baje
la ventilaci6n.
NOTA: Para un funcionamiento mas conveniente,
configure el ventilador a la velocidad que utilice mas
a menudo. Elventilador se accionara a esta velocidad
cuando la unidad se eleve.
IIPORTANTE: La ventilaci6n puede activarse
presionando los botones del interruptor. No ejerza una
fuerza excesiva ni utilice objetos afilados para activar
el interruptor. Pueden producirse daRos que invalidan
la garant[a.

A PRECAUCi6N: Tenga cuidado al
levantar o bajar la corriente descendente. Aseg0rese
de que las cacerolas, las manijas de las cacerolas U
otros objetos se encuentren alejados de la corriente
descendente Uque no se golpeen o vuelquen cuando
se la eleve.
NOTA: Hay una peque_a saliente en cada lado
de la ventilaci6n.
• Para evitar lesiones, mantenga los dedos alejados
de la tapa de la corriente descendiente cuando
se la baje.
Mantenga las manos Ulos dedos alejados de todas
las piezas de la corriente descendente.
IMPORTANTE:Si la ventilaci6n queda obstruida
con un objeto mientras se la sube o baja, @stase
detendra. Ouite la obstrucci6n Upresione de nuevo
el bot6n ON/OFF (encendido/apagado).

Conservas
El elevado movimiento de aire de este sistema de
corriente descendente puede aumentar los tiempos
de cocci6n de algunos alimentos. Puede tomar mas
tiempo alcanzar temperaturas de cocci6n elevadas si
se acciona la corriente descendente en "alta" desde el
comienzo. Para mejores resultados de cocci6n, ajuste
la velocidad del ventilador.
Para mejores resultados cuando caliente aceite para
freir o cuando hierva agua, utilice las unidades de
superficie frontales o espere a que el agua
est@hirviendo o a que el aceite se encuentre a
temperatura de fritura antes de accionar la corriente
descendente.
La corriente descendente quizas no pueda capturar
par completo todo el vapor proveniente de las alias
de los quemadores frontales.
Cuando haga conservas de alimentos en una alia con
bar_ode maria, debe mantenerse un hervor suave
pero constante par el tiempo requerido.
Cuando haga conservas en una alia de presi6n,
la presi6n debe mantenerse par el tiempo requerido
en forma continua.
Cuando realice conservas, utilizar el ventilador
en una configuraci6n de velocidad alta puede reducir
la temperatura Io suficiente para detener el hervor.
Mientras realice conservas, recomendamos utilizar
la corriente descendente a una velocidad mas baja

grasa
Laeficiencia de su ventilaci6n de corriente
descendente depende de la limpieza del filtro. La
frecuencia de limpieza depende del tipo de cocci6n
que realice. Losfiltros de grasa deben limpiarse
por Io menos una vez por mes.Nunca opere la
corriente descendente sin losfiltros en su lugar.
Pare quitar: Deslicelosdedos en losorificios de
ventilaci6n g levante la cubierta hacia arriba g
emp0jela hacia adelante. Tome las leng0etas del
filtro, presione hacia abajo g quite de la traba.
Pare limpiar: Sumerjag luegoagite en una soluci6n
de detergente caliente. Puedeutilizarseun cepillo
suave para quitar la suciedad mug adherida.
Enjuague,agite g quite la humedad antes de volver
a colocar.No lave los filtros en el lavavajillas.
Con una manipulaci6n cuidadosa, el filtro durara
muchos ahos. Sinecesita reemplazarlo,solicite
el repuesto a su vendedor.

No utilice almohadillas de acero porque ragan
