UNPACK PRODUCT FROM PACKAGE AND REVIEW CONTENTS.KEEPALL PACKAGING UNTIL
PRODUCT HAS SEENREVIEWED.
Do not operatethe machineuntil it is completelyassembled.
Makesurethe proper electricalregulationsarefollowed, andthat the machineis properly grounded.
Beforeswitching the machineON,ALWAYS:a.Makesureall chuck keys,spannersand wrenchesare
removedfrom the machine, b. Examinethe setupcarefully, makingcertainthat the workpiece is
perfectly secure,c. Makesureyour clothing isproperly adjusted.
Makeall adjustmentswith the power OFF.
Alwaysusethe correct drilling speedsfor the drill size,and the type of materialbeingdrilled.
NEVERleavethe drill unattendedwhile it is running. Turnthe machineOFFand do not leaveuntil it
has cometo a completestop. Whenyou havefinished with the machine,alwaysremoveand store
the drill bits.

USINGTHELASER
Thelaserlight/laser radiation usedin this lasercentering devicesystem is Class2 with maximum
1roW and40Onto- 70Ontowavelengths.Theselasersdo not normallypresentan optical hazard,
althoughstaring at the beammay causeflash blindness.
Changingthe Batteries
Unclip the batterycoverto gainaccessto the batteries.Replaceboth AAbatteries,taking careto
insertthe newbatterieswith the correctpolarity.
Use only2 AAbatteries.DONOTmix old and newbatteries.DONOTmix alkaline,standard (carbon
-zinc) or rechargeable(nickel-cadmium) batteries.
Replacethe laserlight batterycoverand makecertainthat the light is not directedtowards the eye
of a person.Always makesurethat the laser beamis aimedat asturdy work piecewithout reflective
surfaces,i.e.wood or rough surfacesareacceptable.Bright, shiny, reflectivesheetsteelor the like is
not suitablefor laseruse,as the reflectivesurfacecould directthe beam backat the operator. Only
turn the laserbeamon after thework piece is in place.CAUTION:Removethe laser light batteries
whentool is to be storedwithout usefor afew days.
Resetting the Laser Beam
Loosen the set screw on eachof the lasertubes and adjustthe tubes until the two beams intersect
atthe pointwherethe drill bittouchesthe work piece.Retightenthe setscrewsmore.If leftin position,
the batteriesmight leakanddamagethe laserlightassembly.Damagecausedbybatteryleakageisnot
coveredunderwarranty.

ColumnAssemblyto Base
NOTE:Ideally,the baseshould befirmly boltedto thefloor, prior to assemblyof other components.
Themounting surfacemust beflat, leveland capableof supporting the drill weight.
With the baseonaflat levelsurface,bolt onthe Column usingthe 4.M10 Hexheadscrews provided
andtighten. Carefullylocatethetable in its supportandtighten upwith the tablelockinghandle.Check
to makesure the column securing set screws, at the column support, aretight. Fitthe crankto the
shaft onthe crankassembly.
Headto Column
NOTE:tt may be necessaryto unscrewthe HeadLock SetScrews slightlyto makesurethey do not
protrude internally asthis would preventthe headfrom sliding fully into position. 1. Raisethe head
andlocateit ontop of the column.2.Alignthe headwiththe baseand firmly securewith thesetscrews
using thewrench. Locatethe threefeedhandlesandscrewthem intothe hubofthe spindlefeedshaft.
ChuckGuardAssembly
NOTE:This operationshouldbe carriedout beforethe chuck is installed.Slidethe ChuckGuardover
the Quillshaft,turn it sothat the pinchbolt facesthefront, thentighten upthe pinchboltto temporarily
secure it inthis position. IMPORTANT-Makesurethe QuillShaftSpindle isat thetop of itstravel.
PulleyCoverKnob
Locatethe knob,with pan headscrewand attachto the cover,screwingon tightly.
InstallingtheChuck
1. Slidethe tableup the column and secureit to within 6"of the spindle.
2. Openthe jaws ofthe chuckto their maximum, using the chuck keysupplied.
3. Put apieceof scrapwood onto the tableto protect the chuck nose.
4. Makesureall parts arethoroughly clean, dry, andburr free. Placethe chuck overthe endofthe
arborand pullthe spindledown usingthe feed handles,pressingthe chuck jaws hardagainstthe
pieceof scrapwood untilthe chuck is securelyin place.
5. TurnChuckGuard180 degreesandtighten Lock SetScrewsslightly to makesure pinch bolt.
Fittingthe DriveBelts
Undo the BeltTensionLockingScrews (oneon either sideof the head)andturn the BeltTension
Leverclockwise to bring the Motor Pulleycloserto the SpindlePulley(which will allow the beltsto
be slippedonwith ease).
Lightly greasethe idler pulleypivot shaftand locatethe idler pulleyassemblyin its' mounting between
the Motor andspindle Pulleys.Consultthe chart insidethe belt cover,and fit the belts in the position
correspondingto spindle/drill speedrequired.
Turnthe BeltTensionLevercounter-clockwisesothat tensionisappliedtothe belts.Tensioniscorrect
when the belts deflectbyapprox. 1/2"attheir centers of run when using reasonablethumb pressure.
Lockthe motor in the positionwith the BeltTensionLockingScrews.1. Theidler pulleywill 'float' so
thattension is appliedequallyto bothbelts. 2. Ifthe beltshould slip whiledrilling, adjustthe belt
tension.

SETTINGSANDADJUSTMENTS
Table
Thetablemaybe raised,loweredor swivelledaboutthe column, by looseningthetable support locking
handle.Adjustaccordinglyusingthe tablecrank,andre-tightenthe lockinghandle.If thetable assembly
movesstiffly when beingswivelledaboutthe column, loosenthe uppercollarallenscrew(atthe rack)to
allowthe collarto moveveryslightly,therebyproviding a littlemore clearancebetweenrackand collar.
Tightenthe allenscrewwhensatisfied.Thetable mayalso beturned on its axisby looseningthe pinch
bolt at its' mountingshaft.
SpindleDepth
Locatedaroundthe spindlefeedshaft is aDepthStopCollar,printedwith agraduatedscale.Thecollar
is capableof turning about the shaftand may belocked in placeby the locking screw.Thescale is
printed in both inchesand metric. Toset a drilling depth: 1.With the powerOFF,lowerthe drill bit so
that it contactsthe work, andhold in that position. 2. Loosenthe lockingscrew andturn the collar so
that the measurementfor the depth of hole requiredis in linewith the pointer(C). Lockthe collar in
this position usingthe locking screw.Thedrill is nowsetto drill holestoyour predetermineddepth,
from that particularstart point.
ChangingDrillSpeed
Beforechangingthe speed,makesurethe machine isswitched OFF,and unplugged.Undothe Belt
TensionLocking Screwson either sideof the headandturn lever clockwiseto relieveanytension on
the belts. Referto the chart insidethe belt coverinstallthe belts inthe positionscorrespondingto the
spindle speedrequired.Levelthe motor, on its bracket,awayfrom the head,byturning lever counter
clockwiseso that tension is appliedtothe belts.
NOTE:The idler pulleywill 'float' sothat tension is equallyappliedto bothbelts. Tensionis correct
when the beltsdeflectby approx.1/2"at their centerwhen using reasonablethumb pressure. Lock
the motor in this position usingthe two lockingscrews. Ifthe beltshould slip while drilling, adjust
the belttension.

WEARSAFETYEYEWEARAND DUSTFILTERSORRESPIRATORSWHILEUSINGTHiSTOOL.
Insertthe drill bitinto the jaws ofthe chuck byapproximately1".Becertainthat the jaws do nottouch
the flutes of the drill. Beforetightening the chuck, makesurethat the drill bit is centeredwithin the
jaws. Makesurethe tableheightand position issetso that drill travelis sufficientfor the job in hand.
Makesurethe work issecurelyclamped,or held ina drill vise boltedto the table. Neverhold it with
barehands.Severepersonalinjury may becausedif the workpiece isforced out of the operator's
hand,and damageto the machineincurred ifthe work strikes the column. Ifthe piece isof irregular
shapeandcannot belaidflat on thetable, it should besecurely blockedandclamped.Anytilting,
twisting or shifting, resultsnot only in a rough hole,but alsoincreasesdrill bit breakage.
Forsmallworkpiecesthat cannot beclampedto the table, usea Drill PressVise.Thevise must be
clampedor boltedto thetable.Whendrilling completelythroughwood,alwayspositiona pieceofscrap
wood betweenthe workpieceandthe tableto preventsplintering onthe undersideofthe workpiece
asthedrill breaksthrough. Thescrappieceof wood must makecontactwith theleftsideofthe column.
Inaddition,setthedepth ofdrill travelsothat the drill cannotpossiblycomeinto contactwith the table,
or, alignthe tableso thatthe center hole isdirectly in linewith the drill bit. Whencompletelysatisfied
thatthe setup is sound, lowerthe ChuckGuard into place,and switch the machineON.

REMOVINGTHECHUCK
Toremovethe chuck, pullthe spindledown fully, usingthe feedhandles.Theslot in the sideofthe
Quillwill becomevisible. Notethe positionof the chuck, perhapsby placinga chalkmark, in linewith
the chuck, onthe column,thenraisethetable sothatit is onlyaninch or sobelowthe positionmarked.
Placeathick cloth,or similar material,onthetableto catchthe chuck,to preventdamagewhenit drops.
Pulldown the spindle oncemore, untilthe slot in the Quilltube is visible. Insertthe drift wedgeinto
the slotand give it asharptap, preferablywith acopperhammer.This will breakthe sealbetweenthe
quill tube andthe arbor, allowing the chuck to fall free, on tothe cloth on the table.To disconnectthe
chuckfrom the arbor, giveit a sharp rapwith a soft headmallet to breakthe taperseal.
NOTE:Morsetaper drills (MTS),may alsobeusedwith this machine,andare insertedinto theQuill to
replacethearbor. Removalis the sameasthat for removingthe chuck.

1. Checktightness of mounting bolts, and headandcolumn securing setscrews.
2. Checkbeltfor wear andreplaceif frayed or damagedin anyway.
3. Blow out any dustthat may haveaccumulated inthe motorfan.
4.Apply athin coat ofwax pasteor light oilto the tableand columnfor lubricationandto helpprevent
corrosion.

Lubrication
All bearingsarepackedwith greaseatthe factory andrequirenofurther lubrication.After use, remove
all swarffrom the machineandthoroughly cleanallsurfaces.Componentsshouldbedry,with machined
surfaces lightly oiled. Alwaysremovedrill bits, andstore in asafe place.

Steele@warrants to the original purchaser who uses the product in a consumer application (personal,
residential or household usage) that all products covered under this warranty are free from defects in
material and workmanship for oneyear from the date of purchase. All products covered by this limited
warranty which are used in commercial applications (i.e. income producing) are warranted to be free of
defects in material and workmanship for 90 days from the date of original purchase. Products covered under
this warranty include air compressors, tools, service parts, pressure washers and generators.
Steele@will repair or replace, at Steele@'s sole option, products or components which have failed within the
warranty period. Service will be scheduled according to the normal work flow and business hours at the
service center location, and the availability of replacement parts. All decisions of Steele@ with regard to this
limited warranty shall be final.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to
state.
RESPONSIBILITYOFORIGINALPURCHASER(initial User):
Toprocessawarrantyclaimonthis product,DONOTreturnitemto the retailer.Theproductmustbe
evaluatedby anAuthorizedWarrantyServiceCenter.Forthelocationofthe nearestAuthorizedWarranty
ServiceCentercontactthe retaileror placeof purchase.
Retain original cash register sales receipt as proof of purchase for warranty to work.
Use reasonable care in the operation and maintenance of the product as described in the Owner's Manual(s).
Deliver or ship the product to the Authorized Warranty Service Center. Freight costs, if any must be paid by
the purchaser. If the purchaser does not receive satisfactory results form the Authorized Warranty Service
Center, the purchaser should contact Steele@toll free 888-896-6881.
THIS WARRANTY DOESNOT COVER:
Merchandise sold as reconditioned, used as rental equipment, or floor or display models.
Merchandise that has become damaged or inoperative because of ordinary wear, misuse, cold, heat, rain,
excessive humidity, freeze damage, use of improper chemicals, negligence, accident, failure to operate the
product in accordance with the instructions provided in the Owner's Manual(s) supplied with the product,
improper maintenance, the use of accessories or attachments not recommended by Steele@, or
unauthorized repair or alterations.

. Costs associated with assembly, required oil, adjustments or other installation and start-up costs.
Expendable parts or accessories supplied with the product which are expected to become inoperative or
unusable after a reasonable period of use.
