1 Area of application

This radio controlled wall clock is designed exclusively for use as a clock. It

is intended for private use and is not suitable for commercial purposes. Any

use other than that described in these operating instructions is not permitted

and can result in damage and injury. No liability will be accepted for claims

arising from improper use. Additional information and explanations can be

found in these operating instructions.

2 Safety and maintenance

2.1 Safety instructions

Please pay particular attention to this section and follow all of the

instructions provided. Doing so will ensure reliable operation. Keep the

packaging and operating instructions in a safe place so that they can be

transferred to the new owner if you decide to sell your radio controlled wall

clock. Never open the housing of the wall clock as there are no serviceable

parts inside (the exception to this is opening the battery compartment to

change the batteries, see section 6 "Changing the batteries"). Do not place

any items on top of the clock and do not exert any pressure on the display.

To prevent damage do not touch the display with any sharp objects.

2.2 Operating environment conditions

Make sure your clock is not exposed to continuous moisture and avoid dust,

heat and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight (particularly in a car). The

clock is protected against impact which can occur during normal, everyday

use. It is imperative that very strong magnetic fields (caused by e.g. electric

welding machines, transformers, etc.) are avoided as they may result in

deviations in time measurement. Electromagnetic or atmospheric

interference can also interfere with the radio signal.

2.3 Ambient temperature

Your clock can be operated continuously within an ambient temperature

range of 0° C to 50° C. It should only be exposed to temperatures ranging

from -10° C to 0° C for brief periods. If the batteries have been removed

(see section 6 "Changing the batteries"), you can store the clock at

temperatures ranging between -10° C and 50° C. The clock should be stored

safely. Avoid high temperatures and permanently damp environments.

2.4 Battery operation

Your radio controlled wall clock is operated by 2 x LR6/R6 / AA 1.5V

batteries.

The following section provides you with information about using batteries:

Never expose the batteries to excessive heat from direct sunlight, fire or

other such source as this increases the risk of leakage! Never recharge the

batteries. Do not disassemble or short-circuit the batteries - risk of

explosion! Keep batteries and the clock out of the reach of children.

Batteries can be swallowed by children. If this occurs, seek medical advice

immediately. Prevent leaking batteries from coming into contact with your

skin, eyes and mucous membranes. In the event of contact with battery fluid

rinse the affected areas immediately with plenty of water and seek medical

advice. Always replace all of the batteries at the same time. Ignoring this

information may result in damage and possibly even to the batteries

exploding. You can find information on replacing the batteries under section

6 "Changing the batteries".

2.5 Disposal

Batteries: Batteries are hazardous waste. Batteries can be

disposed of correctly by shops selling batteries and at local

authority waste departments where there are appropriate

containers.

2.6 Cleaning and care

Only clean the clock using a soft, damp, lint-free cloth. Do not use any

solvents or abrasive or gaseous cleaning agents. Make sure drops of water

are not left to accumulate on the display. Water can cause long-term

discolouration. Do not expose the display to glaring sunlight or ultra-violet

radiation.

Note! There are no components inside the clock's housing which require

maintenance or cleaning.

2.7 Storage

Remove the batteries if you do not intend using the radio controlled wall

clock for a prolonged period. When storing the clock please observe the

information included under section 2.2 "Operating environment conditions"

and section 2.3 "Ambient temperature".

2.9 Scope of delivery

1 x radio controlled wall clock AE1-FW-10SN, 1 x set of operating

instructions, 1 x warranty card, 1 x warranty sticker, 2 x LR6/R6 / AA 1.5V

batteries, 2 x feet

3 Commissioning

We recommend that you read the operating instructions thoroughly before

starting to use your radio controlled wall clock. Please pay particular

attention to section 4.1 "Function buttons" in order to become acquainted

with the clock.

1. The batteries have already been inserted into the battery compartment,

however the contacts are interrupted by a battery isolation strip. This

protrudes visibly between the battery compartment and the cover. You

can remove this strip without opening the battery compartment.

2. When you have removed the strip the LCD display will

illuminate, a brief audible tone will sound and the clock's

search procedure will start automatically, which is indicated

by flashing radio waves above the radio tower symbol.

Note! No other settings can be implemented during this period.

This process can take approx. 2 to 5 minutes. When the radio signal is

received the date, time and moon phase displays are set automatically. The

radio waves above the radio tower symbol are illuminated continuously.

As is the case with wireless signals for mobile telephones or radio/TV

reception, it is possible that your radio controlled wall clock will not always

receive a signal at every location. Here are some tips to ensure your clock

operates properly. The following factors can cause malfunctions:

•

Concrete buildings, metal components and electronic equipment.

•

Electronic devices such as TVs, computers, various household

appliances, transformers, power lines, radio transmitters or electrified

railway lines.

•

Atmospheric effects can also interfere with radio waves.

•

The distance of the radio signal and the geographic environment

(mountains, etc.). So-called "dead spots", which make reception

impossible, can occur anywhere.

•

Reception is better in rural areas in comparison to large cities. There

are fewer sources of interference at night compared to during the day.

Therefore reception is better at night.

•

Weak batteries in the clock will impair the quality of reception.

3. The radio signal is generally synchronised with the radio controlled

time within 2 to 5 minutes, after which the radio tower symbol appears

constantly in the display. If this does not occur, press and hold the

"+/ " button for approx. 3 seconds. The radio waves above the radio

tower symbol start to flash and another attempt is made to locate a

radio signal.

4. If it is not possible to receive a signal at your current location, you can

also set the time manually (see section 4.2.2 "Manual setting").

4.1 Function buttons

4.2 Time and date

4.2.1 Radio controlled time

The time is encoded (DCF77 - 1 hour preset) and broadcast by a long-wave

transmitter in Mainflingen near Frankfurt/Main over a transmission range of

some 1,500 km. If your clock is located within this transmission range it

will receive and convert this signal, thereby ensuring the precise time and

date is always displayed immaterial whether it's summer or winter time. If it

is not possible to receive a signal at your current location, you can also set

the time manually (see section 4.2.2 "Manual setting").

4.2.2 Manual setting

Note: To rapidly alter the digits press and hold the "+/ " or "–/C/F" button.

1. To set the time press and hold the "SET/ZONE" button for approx.

3 seconds until the language for the weekday display starts to flash. You

can choose to display the weekday in English (EN), Dutch (DU), French

(FR), Spanish (SP) Italian (IT) or German (GE) by pressing the

"+/ " or "-/C/F" button. Then press the "SET/ZONE" button to confirm

your selection; 24 Hr or 12 Hr now starts to flash.

2. Press the "+/ " or "-/C/F" button to alternate between the 12 and 24 hour

display and confirm your selection by pressing the "SET/ZONE" button.

The year now starts to flash.

3. Press the "+/

" or "-/C/F" button to set the year and confirm your

selection by pressing the "SET/ZONE" button. The month now starts to

flash.

4. Set the month, date, hour and minute in the same way. When the minute

entry has been confirmed the time zone flashes.

5. Press the "SET/ZONE" button to set time zone 0 for Central European

Time. To set other time zones (see section 4.2.6 "Time zone") press the

"+/

" or "-/C/F" button and confirm your selection by pressing the

"SET/ZONE" button.

6. ON

then flashes in the display and RC is displayed instead of the

weekday. You have the option of disabling radio reception here if you

want to operate your clock manually. Use the "+/ " or "-/C/F" button to

select ON or OFF and confirm your selection by pressing the

"SET/ZONE" button. The setting function is now complete.

Note: If no button is pressed for approx. 2 minutes during the manual

setting procedure, the time setting mode will be terminated. Any data you

have entered will be saved.

4.2.3 12/24-hour format

To set the 12/24-hour format please proceed as described under section

4.2.2 "Manual setting". The 12-hour format is indicated by the "PM" symbol

to the left above the time.

4.2.4 Weekday display

The weekday display appears immediately after the batteries have been

inserted. The weekday display will be automatically adapted to the date by

your radio controlled wall clock. To set the language for the weekday

display please refer to section 4.2.2 "Manual setting".

4.2.5 Calendar week

The calendar week depends on the current date and is calculated

automatically.

4.2.6 Time zone

You can use this function to set and display the time for any time zone. In its

basic setting the time zone is equal to the local time.

The Earth is divided into 24 time zones. A time zone is a section of the

Earth's surface where a common time applies. This usually runs along the

longitudinal lines from the poles. When passing into another zone time

changes by one hour. In an easterly direction time moves forward by one

hour and in a westerly direction it moves backward by one hour. If, for

example, you want to set the time for a country which is 6 time zones west

of your country, you will need to enter minus 6 hours.

2. Now press the "SET/ZONE" button 7 times until a flashing digit (from

-12 to +12) appears on the display.

3. Press the "+ " - or "–/C/F" button to set your desired time zone. Confirm

your selection by briefly pressing the "SET/ZONE" button twice. The

local time is now displayed again. The setting function is now complete.

You can now switch between the local time and the time of the selected

zone by briefly pressing the "SET/ZONE" button. When the time is

being displayed for the respective zone the ZONE symbol appears to the left

above the time.

Note: You can only adjust the hour in this mode; the minutes run

synchronously with the normal time.

4.3 Alarm time

The radio controlled wall clock has three configurable alarm settings: a

weekday alarm (AL M-F), a weekend alarm (AL S-S) and an appointment

alarm (AL AP).

4.3.1 Setting the alarm

To set one of the three alarm times press and hold the "ALARM" button for

approx. 3 seconds.

The alarm AL M-F (Monday – Friday)

appears and the hour starts to flash;

use the "+/

" or "-/C/F" button to set the desired hour and confirm your

selection by pressing the "ALARM" button. The minutes now start to flash;

use the "+/

" or "-/C/F" button to select the relevant minute and press the

"ALARM" button to confirm your setting.

The alarm AL S-S (Saturday – Sunday) appears and the hour starts to flash;

use the "+/

" or "-/C/F" button to set the desired hour and confirm your

selection by pressing the "ALARM" button. The minutes now start to flash;

use the "+/ " or "-/C/F" button to set the relevant minute. Press the

"ALARM" button again to confirm your setting.

The Alarm AL AP (appointment alarm) appears and the year flashes. Use

the "+/

" or "-/C/F" button to set the desired year and confirm your

selection by pressing the "ALARM" button. The month now starts to flash;

set the month, date, hour and minute in the same way. Press the "ALARM"

button again to confirm the setting for the date and time of the alarm; the

alarm setting function is now complete.

4.3.2 Activating/deactivating the alarm and alarm

repeat function

To activate or deactivate one of the three alarms press the "ALARM"

button; Alarm AL M-F

(Monday - Friday) appears. Press the " " button to

activate or deactivate the alarm (

) and optionally the alarm repeat function

(Zz) for this alarm time (symbol appears/disappears). Press the "ALARM"

button to confirm your selection.

Alarm AL S-S

(Saturday - Sunday) appears; press the " " button again to

activate or deactivate the alarm (

) and optionally the repeat alarm function

(Zz) for this alarm time (symbol appears/disappears). Press the "ALARM"

button to confirm your selection.

Alarm AL AP

(appointment alarm) appears; press the " " button to activate

or deactivate the alarm ( ) for the appointment alarm function (symbol

appears/disappears). The appointment alarm is a non-recurring alarm and it

cannot be repeated with the alarm repeat function (Zz).

4.3.3 Displaying the alarm time

Alarm time AL M-F (Monday - Friday), alarm time AL S-S (Saturday

- Sunday) and the appointment alarm can be displayed by pressing the

"ALARM" button: Press once to display alarm time AL M-F (Monday

- Friday); press twice to display alarm time AL S-S (Saturday - Sunday);

press three times to display the appointment alarm; and press four times to

return to the normal display or wait several seconds until the clock

automatically reverts to the normal display.

4.3.4 Switching off the alarm

Alarm ( ): When the alarm sounds it either switches off automatically after

2 minutes or it can be switched off by pressing any button. The weekday and

weekend alarm, however, remain active; i.e. the alarm will sound again the

following weekday (Monday - Friday) or Saturday - Sunday at the same

time.

Repeating the alarm (Zz):

To enable this feature the alarm repeat function

(section 4.3.2) must be activated and the Zz symbol must be visible on the

display. Pressing the "SNOOZE" button while the alarm is sounding causes

the Zz symbol to flash and the alarm to sound again after 8 minutes. You

can switch off the alarm by pressing any other button. The weekday and

weekend alarm, however, remain active; i.e. the alarm will sound again the

following weekday (Monday - Friday) or Saturday - Sunday at the same

time.

Note: The alarm responds to the time indicated in the display (radio

controlled time, manually set time or time of the respective time zone).

4.4 Temperature display

The temperature display appears to the centre right of the display

immediately after the batteries have been inserted. The temperature display

does not indicate the current ambient temperature immediately, because the

temperature sensor needs some time to measure the changes in temperature.

Please note that the temperature displayed can be a little higher or lower if

the clock is mounted on a wall, as this can radiate heat or cold.

Selecting °Celsius / °Fahrenheit:

To switch between °C and °F press and hold the "-/C/F" button for approx.

3 seconds ; the display then switches from °C to °F . Press and hold the

"-/C/F" button again for approx. 3 seconds to switch the display from °F

to °C.

4.5 Moon phase

The moon phase depends on the current date and is displayed with the

following symbols:

Full moon Waning moon New moon

New moon Waxing moon Full moon

4.6 Technical specifications

5 Assembly

The clock can either be set up on its feet or mounted on a wall using the rear

hanging mount. When using the feet please make sure they firmly engage in

place.

6 Changing the batteries

Replace the batteries immediately when the display becomes weak or faded.

Open the battery compartment cover located at the rear of the radio

controlled wall clock. Before inserting the batteries clean the battery

contacts and the contacts in the clock. Insert the batteries (2 x LR6/R6 / AA

1.5V batteries) and close the battery compartment cover (pay attention to the

correct polarity). Only replace the batteries with equivalent battery types and

do not use a mixture of old and new batteries, as old batteries can leak. We

recommend you operate the clock with ordinary batteries as opposed to

rechargeable batteries.

8 Troubleshooting

The radio controlled clock does not receive a radio signal: If the clock does

not receive a signal, please try again at a different location. The reception of

the signal can be impaired or even prevented by structural or natural

obstructions (e.g. mountains). The radio controlled wall clock is equipped

with a quartz clock which can then be used as an alternative (see section

4.2.2 "Manual setting"). Electromagnetic or atmospheric interference can

also disrupt the radio signal. This type of interference can normally be

eliminated by simply selecting a different location.

Incorrect temperature display:

The temperature display is influenced by

direct sunlight. Please position your clock in such a way that it is not

exposed to direct sunlight.

Weak batteries: Replace the batteries as soon as the display becomes weak

or faded. When inserting the new batteries always make sure the polarity is

correct (see section 6 "Changing the batteries"). After changing the batteries

proceed as described under section 3 "Commissioning".
