Chapter 1
Overview, Requirements, and
Online Help
This chapter provides an overview of Remote Annex Network
Software for Windows, and the requirements for installing the software.
The chapter also provides information on copying the installation
program to diskettes and describes how to use online help.
Remote Annex Network Software for Windows includes three modules:
Server Tools
Remote Annex Server Tools for Windows NT allows you to boot and
configure Remote Annexes in a Windows NT network. The software
includes the expedited remote procedure call daemon (erpcd), which runs
on the host server and on request from the Annex downloads operational
code and other files. The Server Tools also enable you to use the Windows
NT domains to authenticate and authorize Annex users.
NA Command Line
Interface
The Network Administrator Utility (NA) is a command line interface
that enables you to display and configure operating characteristics of an
Annex and its ports. The utility also enables you to remotely boot the
Annex, upload the Annex operating image before a boot and broadcast
administrative messages to ports on an Annex. The utility can be installed
with the Server Tools on the host server and on other Windows platforms
on the network.
Quick2Config Annex
The Quick2Config Annex application provides a Microsoft Windows
based user interface that you can use to configure, manage and monitor
remote access servers in a networked environment. Quick2Config Annex
is compatible with the Optivity™ network management products from
Bay Networks. Using the Quick2Config Annex application you can:
Configure an Annex or group of Annexes with an easy-to-use
graphical interface
Retrieve status and statistical information from an Annex or
Annexes
Discover Annexes on the network

Chapter 1 Overview, Requirements, and Online Help
Installing Remote Annex Network Software for Windows
Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11
The following sections describe the restrictions and requirements you
need to be aware of before you install Quick2Config Annex application
software.
Win32s
You need to install Win32s (version 1.30.166.0 or later) with Microsoft
Windows and Windows for Workgroups before you can install
Quick2Config Annex. The Quick2Config Annex install program prompts
you to install Win32s if you do not have it installed on your system.
Mode
To install ChameleonNFS on Microsoft Windows or Windows for
Workgroups, you must run in Enhanced Mode.
Supported IP Stacks
Quick2Config Annex is compatible with the IP stack software packages
listed in
Table 1-3.
Table 1-3. Supported IP Stacks
Vendor Package (Compliant with WinSock 1.1)
NetManage, Inc. ChameleonNFS for Windows, Version 4.6

Installing NetManage ChameleonNFS IP
You cannot install a NetManage ChameleonNFS IP stack after you install
Quick2Config Annex. If the Setup program does not recognize a
compliant installed IP stack, you must install the NetManage
ChameleonNFS IP stack shipped with Quick2Config Annex during
Quick2Config Annex installation, or exit the installation program to
install a supported package.
If you install the NetManage ChameleonNFS IP stack during
Quick2Config Annex installation, the Custom program automatically
starts during installation. Refer to Chapter 4 and Appendix A for
information about the Custom program.
Adding Other Supported IP Stacks
Install other supported IP stack software (compliant with WinSock 1.1),
such as FTP or FastLink II, before or after you install Quick2Config
Annex.
Windows 95 and Windows NT TCP/IP
You do not have to install the Microsoft TCP/IP stack for Windows 95
or Windows NT before you install Quick2Config Annex. Refer to your
Microsoft documentation to install the Microsoft TCP/IP stack.
