Currys Essentials C60SHDW15

The Currys Essentials C60SHDW15 is a 60cm Cooker Hood designed to extract vapours and remove odours from cooking. It can be used in two modes:

  • Air Extraction: In this mode, the hood extracts the air and expels it outside through a duct.
  • Air Recirculation: In this mode, the hood filters the air and recirculates it back into the kitchen.

The hood has three fan motor speeds to choose from, allowing you to adjust the extraction power to suit your needs. It also features two acrylic filters that are easy to remove and clean.

Here are some possible use cases for the Currys Essentials C60SHDW15:

Modes of Operation
Air Extraction
The air is drawn in and cleaned by the acrylic lters and directed outside.
The non-return ap supplied with the appliance must be tted in the exhaust hole.
Having a non-return ap tted in the ducting ensures that air, once ducted to the outside,
cannot get back into the room again.
The ap is closed when the cooker hood is switched o.
When the cooker hood is switched on, the non-return ap opens for the cooking vapours
to be ducted away.
Operation
To Select the Fan Motor Speed
Your cooker hood has 3 levels of extraction. Depending on the cooking and frying vapours, you should run the
cooker hood with "1" low, "2" medium or "3" high speed. To run the cooker hood, slide the motor speed selector to
the desired extraction speed on the front panel.
Slide the motor speed selector to the "0" position to turn the unit o.
• Carbon lters are available as an optional extra, see rear page for ordering details.
• Before using the cooker hood in recirculation mode, ensure that the carbon lter is in place. See
“Cleaning and Maintenance.
• Do not ambé under the cooker hood.
• CAUTION: Accessible parts may become hot when used with cooking appliances.
Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the room when the cooker hood is used at the same time as other
appliances burning gas or other fuels.
Air Recirculation
The air is drawn in and cleaned by a carbon lter (optional). The cleaned air is then
recirculated back into the kitchen through the recirculation vents in the top of the cooker
hood.
Cooker Hood Lighting
Slide the lamp switch to the on position ( 1 ) to switch the lamps on.
Slide the lamp switch to the o position ( 0 ) to switch the lamps o.

• All external surfaces and controls can be cleaned using a little washing-up liquid applied with a soft sponge or
cloth.
Cleaning and Maintenance
• Wipe dry using a soft cloth.
• Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out, disconnect the cooker hood from the mains
power supply. Ensure that it is switched o at the wall socket and the plug is withdrawn.
• The surfaces and controls are susceptible to scratches and abrasions. Please observe the following
cleaning instructions.
Only use a damp cloth as water could get into the unit and cause damage.
Do not use:
• cleaning agents containing soda, acids, chlorides or solvents,
• abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. powder cleaners or cream cleaners and abrasive sponges, as well as
pot scourers or sponges which have been used previously with abrasive cleaning agents as these will
damage the surface material.

Acrylic Filters
The acrylic lters in the appliance remove solid particles (acrylic, dust, etc.) from the kitchen vapours, preventing
soiling of the cooker hood.
The acrylic lters should be replaced regularly (at least every 3 months) to avoid a build-up of acrylic.
1. Slide the two acrylic lter cover release buttons on
the underside of the cooker hood inwards. The lter
cover will be released downwards.
2. The thin acrylic lter is removed by releasing it from
the U-shape metal hangers.
Pull down the U-shaped hanger and remove the
lter.
3. Replace the lter and lock the U-shaped hanger in
position.
4. Fit the main lter cover by locating the rear pins
in their slots. Push the cover upward and push the
release buttons outward. It will click back into place.
Dirty lters are a re hazard.
• Be careful of the cover falling down.
• HOLD THE FILTER COVER BEFORE RELEASE.
• Please be careful when replacing and
handling the lter as sheet metal and sharp
metal edges can cause injury if not handled
with care.

Fitting and Replacing the Carbon Filter
If the cooker hood is connected for recirculation, a carbon lter must be used.
5. Replace the lter cover.
Carbon lters are available as an optional extra.
1. Before tting or replacing a carbon lter, the acrylic lters must rst be taken out (see previous section for
instructions on how to do this).
2. Take the carbon lter out of its packaging.
3. Install carbon lter.
First, take the lter cover down and take the U-shaped hangers out.
Filter cover
Take lter cover out
4. Put the carbon lter in position. Put the U-shaped hangers back into its position.
Replace the carbon lter when it no longer absorbs kitchen odours eectively. It
should, however, be replaced at least every 3 months to prevent a risk of re.

14
Changing the Internal Light
Allow the cooker hood to cool for at least 30 minutes after use before changing the light bulb.
1. Slide the acrylic lter cover release buttons o the underside of the cooker hood inwards. The lter cover will
be released downwards.
2. Remove the old bulb by unscrewing it in an anti-clockwise direction.
3. Replace with a new bulb (E14 230V/40W) by screwing it in a
clockwise direction. Make sure it is securely inserted in the
bulb holder. Kindly note that your cooker hood is tted with
2 x 40W (max.) bulbs.
4. Replace the lter cover.
• Be careful of the cover falling down.
• HOLD THE FILTER COVER BEFORE RELEASE THE BUTTONS.
• Please be careful as sheet metal and sharp metal edges can cause injury if not handled with care.

Safety Distance Between Hob and Cooker hood
Min.700 mm
When planning the installation height of your cooker hood, the minimum safe distance between the top
of a cooker or hob and the bottom of the cooker hood is 700mm.
• Account should also be taken of the height of the person who will be using the hood most often. The person
should have sucient space to work comfortably at the hob, and also be able to reach the hood controls with
ease.
• Please be aware that if positioned too high, extraction will be inecient.

Connection for Air Extraction
Only use smooth pipes or exible hoses made from non-ammable materials for the extraction ducting.
To achieve the greatest possible air extraction with the lowest noise level, please note the following:
• To ensure ecient air extraction, the diameter of the exhaust ducting should not be less than 120mm.
• If at ducting is being used, the cross-sectional area must not be smaller than the cross sectional area of the
exhaust connection.
• All ducting, pipework and ttings must be made of non-ammable materials.
• The exhaust ducting should be as short and straight as possible.
• Only use wide radius bends.
• The exhaust ducting should not be kinked or compressed.
• Ensure that all connections are strong and airtight.
• Where ducting is horizontal, it must be laid to slope away at least 1cm per metre. This is to ensure that
condensate cannot drain back into the cooker hood.
If the exhaust ducting is to run through rooms, ceiling space etc. where there may be great variations in
temperature between the different areas, the problem of condensation will need to be addressed. The
exhaust ducting will need to be suitably insulated.
• To avoid the danger of toxic fumes, please observe the safety warnings.
• This is especially crucial when using the cooker hood at the same time as another heating appliance
which relies on air from the same room.
• The cooker hood should be installed according to the local and national building regulations. Seek
approval from the building inspector where necessary.

Extracted Air Installation
If you are tting the unit to an outside wall you need the following items:
• A minimum of 500mm of exible ducting, 120 mm in diameter.
• An external cooker hood.
1. There is a ‘valve’ inside the cooker hood, which diverts the air so that it leaves through one of the exhaust
holes. Turn the valve lever download to position E, as shown in the picture A.
