1. ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT
This document is part of the prduct's user manual.
This document contains general safety instructions
and additional information on the individual sections
of the manual.
Keep this document in a safe place along with the user
manual and ensure that both documents are available
at all times.
2. DESCRIPTION OF DEVICE
2.1 Intended purpose
The medical scales and measuring stations from seca
are mainly used in hospitals, doctors' surgeries and
inpatient care facilities in accordance with national reg-
ulations.
The devices are used for conventional weight and size
determination, determination of the general nutritional
status, and help the treating physician to make a diag-
nosis or treatment decision.
In order to make a precise diagnosis, besides determi-
nation of the weight, further targeted examinations
must be set up by the physician, and their results must
be considered.
2.2 Functional description
Weight measurement with electric scales is done via 1
or 4 load cells dependent on the model; mechanical
scales use a load lever system.
Dependent on the model, the following functions may
be available on your scales:
hold: Permanent display of the measurement result
after the load has been removed from the scales.
tare: Taring of additional weight, e.g. of a towel for
the current weighing process.
pretare: Permanent storage of a weight (e.g. blanket
weight for clothing), which is deducted automatically
in each weighing process
2 in 1: Weight of a child can be determined with an
adult standing on the scales with the child.
28 •
BMI: Determination of body mass index through the
measured weight value and the manually entered
body size of the patient.
BMIF: Calculation of the ingested quantity of food.
Limit value: For stress execises after e.g. knee
surgery
Manual switchover of weighing range: For multi-
range scales, different weighing ranges can be se-
lected. Weighing range 1 offers a more precise
weight indication with a reduced load-bearing ca-
pacity. In the second weighing range, and, depen-
dent on the model also in a third, you can use a larger
loading capacity of the scales with an adjusted split
of the weight display.
2.3 User qualification
Assembly
Devices that are shipped partially assembled may only
be mounted by sufficiently qualified persons such as
specialist dealers, hospital technicians or seca service
technicians.
Operation
The device may only be operated by healthcare
professionals.
