Remove the back cover

If you need to insert SIM and memory cards, remove

the back cover.

Caution: don't use tools to remove the cover – doing so

may damage your phone.

Take off the back cover.

1. Turn your phone upside down.

Put your fingernail in the notch on

the bottom corner.

2. Press your thumb in the

centre of the back cover.

3. Pry the cover off.

Remove the battery & put in cards

Caution: make sure you use the correct size SIM cards

and don't cut the SIM cards. Don't use tools to remove

the battery – doing so may damage your phone.

Note: in some countries, you can use a second SIM card.

Put on the cover & power on

Put on the back cover. Charge your phone fully and turn

the power on. Then select your language and follow the

screen prompts to get started.

Dual SIM phone settings

With a dual SIM phone, you can use one or two SIM cards.

If there's only one SIM in the phone, it's ready to use.

With two cards inserted, you can use either or both.

Put in the battery & put on the cover.

Charge up & power on.

Note: fully charge

your phone before

using it.

until the screen

lights up.

To set up your phone to use two SIM cards, insert both

cards, turn on your phone and follow the prompts. To finish

dual SIM setup, drag down the status bar at the top of the

Home screen and tap Welcome to your dual SIM phone.

Tip: with two SIM cards, you see at the top of

your Home screen.

Dual SIM calling

You can choose which SIM to use for outgoing calls. Your

phone automatically prompts you in a notification to enable

this feature. Or, you can enable it any time by touching Apps

> Settings > SIM cards > Automatic SIM selection.

Note: to quickly open settings, swipe down the status

bar with two fingers and tap .

Battery life

Your phone is like a small computer that processes tons of

information and apps at lightning-fast speed. Depending on

what you use, that can take a lot of power.

When your phone is stationary, not charging or not in

use for a period of time, unnecessary background

processes are shut down to optimise battery life.

To see what's using up battery power, tap Apps

> Settings > Battery.

To turn on Battery saver, tap Apps > Settings

> Battery, then tap Menu > Battery saver mode.

Note: to quickly open settings, swipe down the status

bar with two fingers and tap .

Tips and tricks

To save even more battery life between charges, you

could reduce:

• Bluetooth™ use: tap Apps > Settings, then tap

Bluetooth to turn it off when you don't need it.

• GPS use: tap Apps > Settings > Location > Mode

> Battery saving to turn off GPS tracking.

• Display brightness: tap Apps > Settings > Display

> Brightness level > (slide dimmer setting left). Make sure

Adaptive brightness is also turned on.

• Display timeout delay: tap Apps > Settings

> Display > Sleep > (shorter setting).

• Activity of seldom used apps: tap Apps > Settings

> Battery, then tap Menu > Battery optimisation > All

apps. Tap the app you want to adjust, then tap Optimise.

Just follow the screen prompts to get started.

If you use Gmail™, you already have a Google™

account — if not, you can create an account during

setup. Signing in to your Google account lets you

access, sync and back up your stuff. See your Google

apps, contacts, calendar, photos and more.

• Widgets that stream information to your Home screen,

such as news or weather.

• Unused online accounts that you registered: tap Apps

> Settings > Accounts. Tap the account you want to

remove. Tap it again, then tap Menu > Remove account.

• Recording or watching videos, listening to music or taking

pictures.

Warning: don't use tools to remove the battery – doing so

may damage your phone. If your phone becomes

unresponsive, try a reboot — press and hold the Power

button until the screen goes dark, and your phone restarts.

The Home screen is what you see when you first turn on 
your phone. From here, you can explore apps and more. 
 
• Search: type text in the Google Search box at the top of 
your Home screen, or tap   to search by voice. 
• Open app list: to see your apps, tap Apps

On the Home screen, tap the Google Search box for a

text search or tap to search by voice.

When you type, suggestions appear below the search field:

• To search for a suggestion, tap it.

• To search for text in the search field, tap on

the keyboard.

Tip: to close the keyboard, tap .

Status & notifications

At the top of the screen, icons on the left notify you

about new messages or events. If you don't know what

an icon means, swipe the status bar down for details.

Tip: getting too many notifications? Touch and

hold a notification to see which app is sending

them to you. Then you can turn them off.

Icons at the top right of your screen tell you about

phone status:

Volume & interruptions

Press the side volume button up or down to select a

volume from high to vibrate .

Tap to show all volume

To turn off all sounds, except alarms, turn the volume all

the way down.

Do not disturb

To access the do not disturb feature, swipe the status

bar down with two fingers, and tap Do not disturb.

Tap one of these options:

• Total silence: turn off all sounds and alarms.

Override sound settings from other apps. Set how

long to stay in this mode, or choose indefinitely.

• Alarms only: set how long you want to only hear

alarms, or choose indefinitely. Tap MORE SETTINGS

to customise which other interruptions to receive.

• Priority only: set how long you want to only hear priority

interruptions, or choose indefinitely. Tap MORE SETTINGS

to customise which interruptions to receive.

Tip: to create an exception for repeat callers that allows

a call from the same person within a 15 minute period,

tap MORE SETTINGS > Priority only allows > Repeat callers.

Apps from the web 
 
You can get apps from other online app stores using 
your browser. 
 
Tip: choose your apps and updates carefully, as some may 
impact your phone's performance — see "Choose carefully". 
Note: when installing an app, make sure you read the 
alerts that tell you what information the app will access. 
If you don't want the app to access this information, 
cancel the installation. 
 
To let your phone install apps that are not on Google 
Play, tap Apps   >   Settings > Security and tap 
Unknown sources. 
 
For information about downloading files from your 
browser, see "Downloads". 
 
Choose carefully 
 
Here are a few tips: 
 
• To help prevent spyware, phishing or viruses, use 
apps from trusted sites, such as Google Play. 
 
• In Google Play, check the app's ratings and 
comments before installing. 
 
• If you doubt the safety of an app, don't install it. 
 
• Apps use up memory, data, battery and processing 
power — some more than others. If you're not happy 
with how much memory, data, battery or processing 
power it's using, uninstall it. 
 
• Monitor children's access to apps to help 
prevent exposure to inappropriate content. 
 
• Certain  apps  may  not  provide  completely 
accurate  information.  Take  care,  especially 
when it comes to personal health. 
 
Set app permissions 
 
You will only be asked for permissions when you 
use a feature in an app, instead of all at once when 
you install the app. 
 
To modify the app permissions settings at any time, tap 
Apps   >   Settings > Apps, then select the app and tap 
Permissions. 
 
To modify the app permissions by app type (such as Calendar or 
Camera) at any time, tap Apps   >   Settings 
> Apps, then tap   Settings > App permissions.

Find it: Apps  , then swipe up to scroll through apps 
 
Tip: your most recently used apps appear at the top. 
 
To close the apps screen, tap Home or Back  . 
 
• Uninstall apps: to remove an app from a Home screen 
page, touch and hold the app, then drag it to Remove. The 
app isn't removed from your phone, just the Home screen. 
 
To remove an app from your phone, touch and hold 
the app, then drag it to Uninstall. 
 
To disable an app or force it to stop running, tap Apps 
>   Settings >   Apps. 
 
DISABLE  removes  the  app  from  your  menu.  To 
ENABLE  it,  reopen  this  window  and  tap  ENABLE 
(disabled apps are at the bottom of the list). 
 
If an app locks up your phone, as soon as you turn it 
on, restart in Safe Mode: turn off your phone, then 
turn it back on — when you see the "Motorola" logo 
during power-up, press and hold both volume 
buttons until you see the Home screen, with Safe 
Mode in the lower left. Then, try removing the app. 
 
• Reinstall apps: to reinstall apps on Google Play, tap 
Apps   >   Play Store, then tap   > My apps & 
games. The apps you downloaded are listed and 
available for download. 
 
• See app details: tap Apps  , touch and hold an 
app, then drag it to App info. 
 
• See app data usage: to see which apps are using the 
most data, tap Apps   >   Settings > Data usage.

Update your phone 
 
Use your phone or computer to check, download and 
install phone software updates: 
 
• Using your phone: 
 
if your phone notifies you about an update, follow 
the instructions to download and install it. 
 
To manually check for updates, tap Apps   >   Settings 
> About phone > System update. 
 
We recommend that you download updates over a 
Wi-Fi connection. Mobile updates can be quite large 
(25 MB or more) and may not be available in all 
countries. If the mobile update is not available in your 
country, update using a computer. 
 
Note: when updating your phone, make sure you 
have enough battery power to complete the update.

To remove an app from the list, swipe it left, right or

tap To scroll the list, swipe up or down.

Tip: you don't need to remove apps from Overview

for your phone to run efficiently.

• Menus: when or appears on a screen, you can

tap it to open options for the current screen.

• Close keyboard: to close a touchscreen keyboard, tap .

Your power button helps in a few ways:

• Power off: press and hold the Power

button to choose Power off.

• Sleep: to conserve battery power,

Volume buttons

Your volume buttons help in a few ways:

• Ringer volume: press the buttons when your

phone is ringing to silence it.

• Earpiece volume: press the buttons during a call.

• Music/video volume: press the buttons during a

song or video.

Speak

Just tell your phone what you want.

Tip: speak naturally but clearly, such as using a speakerphone.

• Search: tap on the Home screen to search by

voice, or say, "OK Google" to speak your search.

To change your voice input and text-to-speech settings,

tap Apps > Settings > Language & input.

• Dialling and commands: tap . To dial, say "Call"

and then a contact name or phone number. Or, say

a command such as "Send text", "Go to" an app or

"Help" for voice command help.

Tip: if a contact has more than one number, you can

say which number to call. For example, "Call Joe

Black Mobile" or "Call Suzi Smith Work".

• Text entry: on a touchscreen keyboard, tap ,

then speak your message or search text. You

can also say punctuation.

Your touchscreen is on when you need it and off when

you don't. To turn the screen on, press the Power button.

• Notifications: double tap a notification to open it.

You'll be prompted to enter your passcode.

Tip: to choose what app notifications to hear or display.

> App notifications, then tap an app.

> Sleep.

hand side of the Home screen until you see a white 
bar. You can add multiple pages. 
 
• Add shortcuts: tap Apps  , touch and hold the app, 
then drag it to one of your Home screen pages. 
 
• Create shortcut folders: drag one shortcut onto 
another. Add more shortcuts by dragging them onto 
the first shortcut. To name the folder, tap it, tap the 
name and type a new name. 
 
• Add widgets: to put widgets such as a clock, interactive 
calendar and more on your Home screen, touch and hold

• Resize  widgets:  you  can  resize  some  widgets  — 
touch and hold a widget until you feel a vibration, then 
release. Drag the white circles at the edges to resize. 
 
• Move or delete widgets and shortcuts: touch and 
hold a widget or shortcut until you feel a vibration or 
see the icon expand if vibrate isn't on. Then drag it to 
another spot, another page or   Remove. 
 
Note: removing a shortcut from your Home screen 
doesn't uninstall the app from your phone. 
 
Quick settings 
 
For quick access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Brightness, Aeroplane mode 
and other settings, swipe down the status bar or the lock 
screen with two fingers. For even more settings, tap  .

Quick start: accessibility 
 
Accessibility features are there for everyone, helping to 
make things easier. 
 
Find it: Apps   >   Settings > Accessibility 
 
Tip: Google Play has many apps that provide useful 
accessibility features. See "Google Play™". 
 
Voice recognition 
 
Just tell your phone what you'd like to do — dial, 
browse, search, send a text and more. Tap   at the top 
of the Home screen for voice search. 
 
TalkBack 
 
Use TalkBack to read your screen out loud — your 
navigation, your selections, even your books. 
 
To turn on TalkBack, tap Apps   >   Settings 
> Accessibility > TalkBack, then tap the switch to turn it on. 
 
Note: you might need to download text-to-speech 
software (data charges may apply). 
 
• Tap something on the screen to hear a description or 
text readout. 
 
• Double tap anywhere on the screen to open or 
activate the last touched item. 
 
• Swipe using two fingers to scroll through lists or 
between screens. 
 
Tip: navigate through your apps and menus to hear 
how voice readouts work on your phone. 
 
To turn off TalkBack, tap Apps   >   Settings 
> Accessibility > TalkBack, then tap the switch to turn it off. 
 
Braille 
 
Combine your Braille display with TalkBack for braille 
and speech feedback. 
 
1  Download the Google BrailleBack™ app from Google 
Play (tap Apps   >   Play Store), and install it on 
your phone. 
 
2 Tap Apps   >   Settings > Accessibility > BrailleBack. 
 
3  Turn on your Braille display and put it in 
Bluetooth™ pairing mode. 
 
4  On your phone, tap Apps   >   Settings > Bluetooth, 
then tap the Bluetooth switch to turn it on and scan. 
 
5  Tap the name of your Braille display to pair it 
with the phone.
