XT-120/240 Operating Instructions
The XT-120 and XT-240 feature a patented method of creating ozone by corona
discharge.
They can be used for bedrooms, living rooms, offices, or other small rooms to freshen the
air and remove odors.
Location
The ozone generator should be placed where the best possible ozone distribution can be
obtained. A household fan can greatly aid in the distribution of ozone. Placing the unit on
the other side of the room from the occupants will result in the best possible coverage of
the room. This will also prevent too much ozone from building up around the occupants.
Keep the unit away from dusty, dirty areas. Do not put the unit on the floor where dust
can get to it.
Ozone is heavier than air, so placing the unit as high as possible is advised.
Ozone Levels
Ozone at low levels has a fresh clean smell much like that of a rainstorm.
It is not even necessary to smell the sweet smell of ozone for it to be effective. Ozone
works best when it is turned down below the level detected by the nose.
The XT-120/240 units have an ozone level knob that adjusts each ozone setting between
"High" and "Low." Start with the ozone control knob at its lowest level for room air
cleaning. You should notice a sweet smell similar to that of after a thunderstorm.
The proper level of ozone is the level at which all the ozone is being used up to
accomplish the removal of odors, and freshen the air. If the air is still not fresh enough
turn the ozone control knob until the odors are not as noticeable. Note that after time the
ozone level in the room can build up and the ozone level may need to be turned down.
We always set the knob at the "High" point to generate the standard voltage. This allows
the ozone level to produce at its normal output. But when the knob is turned to about a
half-way point, the voltage is lowered and the ozone output becomes very low. The
corona discharge light may be difficult to detect at this time, but it is still producing
ozone if you hear a buzzing sound. This buzzing sound is a result of the ozone generation
that occurs when air flow passes through each ozone element.
Adjust the ozone level according to the level of odor contamination in the room.
If you desire a lower level of ozone than the lowest setting you can use the “Burst Timer”
which is located on the power cord. The timer’s instructions are below.
If the ozone generator is used to combat cigarette smoke adjust the level of ozone output
for the amount of smokers in the room. If the unit is set on a high level for 10 smokers
and 9 leave the room, the ozone level should be turned down accordingly.
Overuse of ozone is not recommended. If too much ozone is present in the room the
ozone smell can turn from sweet to an obnoxious odor. This should be avoided.
The nose can rapidly loose its ability to smell the ozone.
Ozone at too high a level can cause a headache, burning eyes, or a sore throat.
If this occurs simply turn the ozone control down to a non-objectionable level.
To get the most effective air cleaning from ozone, it is recommended that you use as little
ozone as possible to control odors.
The unit can also be used with a timer to cycle the unit on and off. This can be used to
prevent ozone buildup in the room if the unit’s output is found to be too strong.
Shock Treatments
Please note that the XT-120 and XT-240 ozone generators do not provide sufficient
ozone output to perform a high ozone shock treatment. The ozone levels are not powerful
enough to kill mold and mold spores.
Please contact us for a larger ozone generator if you need a more powerful unit.
Burst Timer
The 120/240 models come with a “burst timer”. This timer allows the unit to cycle on and
off at any ozone level. This is especially useful for air purification purposes.
If the unit is set too strong at the lowest level you can adjust the timer which is located on
the power cord.
The burst timer can be set to these times:
2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 seconds per minute (continuous use).
Maintenance
DO NOT OPEN THE UNIT. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Dangerous high
voltages exist. The warranty is voided if the unit is opened.
Always unplug the unit before cleaning.
The XT-120 and XT-240 ozone generators incorporate a patented method of corona
discharge ozone generation that requires almost no maintenance.
A special steel element cleaning tool has been included with your
unit. It can be used to push any dirt out of the elements. The ozone generator can also be
set to its highest level for 30 minutes to burn off any accumulated dirt buildup.
If the unit works for a period of time and then the ozone element(s) become dirty, the
machine may only generate ozone at the "High" point on the ozone level's knob. So when
the knob is turned to about the half way point or below, it may not have any ozone output
because the ozone element is too dirty to generate the ozone. To solve this problem,
please set the knob on "High" and clean the ozone element with the stainless steel
cleaning tool.
There is a small electrostatic 3M “Filtrete" air filter pad on the underside of the generator
to keep dust from entering the unit. When the filter becomes dark or dirty, usually
between one and two months, the user can replace the filter with one of the included
replacement filters. Do not reuse the old filters.
The unit comes supplied with a one year supply of filters.
After that the user may purchase additional replacement filters from Air-Zone Inc.
The outside of the unit can be cleaned with a moist paper towel.
A small vacuum attachment can be used to gently vacuum the dust that accumulates in
the top holes of the unit.
Please be very careful not to poke anything other than the cleaning tool in the top holes
of the unit when cleaning.
High voltages exist and can cause a shock if objects are placed in the top holes of the
unit.
Warranty Information
Every Air-Zone ozone generator is checked to be in perfect working condition before it is
shipped.
The XT-120 and XT-240 ozone generators are under warranty from manufacturing
defects for a period of five years.
Air-Zone will repair or replace the unit at our cost if a defect is determined to be from the
manufacturing process.
This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse by owner. The ozone elements
are only covered for a period of 6 months. With regular filter changes and cleaning the
elements should last at least three years.
This warranty does not cover replacement filters.
Shipping of the unit for service is the customer’s responsibility.
