ENVIRONMENT
______________________________
Environmental Protection – DIRECTIVE 2002/96/CE
To protect the environment and people's health,
it is important for everyone, including all
suppliers and users, to follow specific guidelines
for the disposal of any electrical appliance at the
end of its useful life.
For this reason, the appliance at hand bears the marking
on its data plate to remind you never to dispose of it in any
public or private bin meant for household rubbish.
Instead, you should return it to your retail shop or drop it
off at a collection site that uses selective sorting to redirect
items for recycling and eventual reuse in other
applications.
FIRST USE AND EVERYDAY USE
________________
First use
A new appliance may emit smoke when used for the first
time. To limit the amount of smoke emitted, it is
recommended that the appliance be allowed to heat up in
the open position for 10 minutes and then to cool for 30
minutes.
Switching on and using the appliance
Choose your plates from among the
models available and position them on
the appliance (see image).
Les Super Gaufres new_super gaufres 23/05/11 11:15 Page34
33
Plug in the appliance and allow it to preheat until the
light turns off.
• Once the appliance is preheated, lightly grease the
plates (Warning: never grease during preheating)
Pour the batter into the centre of each of the plates,
filling each of the squares, without overflowing into the
gutter.
Close the appliance and keep the handles firmly
squeezed together for a few moments
• Turn the machine over on its base for better distribution
of the batter and more uniform cooking, then release the
handles.
After 2 or 3 minutes, turn the appliance back to its
original position.
When the waffles are cooked to your satisfaction,
remove them from the appliance.
WARNING: during cooking, the fact that the indicator
light is switched on or off does not mean that your
waffles are ready, but simply relates to the
thermostat’s regulation. To find out whether your
waffles are ready, carefully open the appliance during
cooking, and close it again if they are not cooked
enough.
CLEANING
____________________________________
Warning: ensure that the appliance is unplugged and has
cooled down completely before cleaning it.
Never immerse the appliance in water.
Important: never place the appliance or the plates in
the dishwasher
Once the appliance has cooled down, remove the
plates and leave them to soak in hot water. Add a little
detergent if necessary
Clean the body of the appliance with a moist sponge
Warning: do not use metallic sponges or scouring
powder.
GENERAL WARRANTY CONDITIONS
____
Your appliance is subject to a 2-year warranty.
In order to benefit from an additional year of warranty
coverage free of charge, register on the LAGRANGE Web
site (www.lagrange.fr)
The warranty covers parts and labour and also covers
manufacturing defects.
The warranty excludes deterioration due to misuse or
failure to follow the user instructions, or due to dropping
the product and breaking the enamel.
THIS WARRANTY APPLIES TO DOMESTIC USE; UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES DOES IT COVER PROFESSIONAL USE
The vendor’s legal warranty obligations in no way exclude
the Manufacturer’s legal warranty obligations relating to
faults or manufacturing defects in accordance with Article
1641 and subsequent articles of the French Civil Code.

34
In the event of a breakdown or malfunction, contact your
retailer.
In the event of a technical fault occurring within 8 days of
purchase, the appliance may be exchanged. After this
period, it is repaired by LAGRANGE’s after-sales service
Special warranty conditions for the plates:
The cooking plates are guaranteed for 10 years.
This warranty covers all manufacturing defects and
material failures, in particular all risks of deformation.
It does not cover:
- Damage caused by the use of oven cleaner, cleaning in a
dishwasher or by any product not recommended for
use on aluminium
- Breakage caused by falls or impacts
- Changes in the colour of the plates (indeed, it is normal
for the plates to darken once they have been used
several times, as they are made from aluminium. This has
no effect on cooking)
- Batter sticking to the plates: this fault is never caused by
the plates but by poor use (insufficient greasing or
batter containing too much sugar)
RECIPES
________________________________________
To begin, here is some advice on the ingredients to use,
according to your preferences…
- For soft waffles, use milk and cream. These waffles must
be eaten as soon as they are removed from the mould.
- For light, crunchy waffles use water and beer.
- Be they soft or crunchy, it is important to use yeast.
(Use 10 g of yeast per 500 g of flour leave the batter to
stand for 30 to 60 minutes).
Using baker’s yeast gives better quality waffles but
requires the batter to stand for around 2 hours.
WARNING: when standing, batter made with baker’s yeast
can expand to several times its initial volume… So make
sure you use a big enough container!
-WAFFLES-
SWEET WAFFLES:
For 10 to 15 waffles
-WAFFLES LYONNAISE-
500 g of flour – 1 sachet of baking powder – ¾ l of liquid
(water, beer or milk, its your choice!!) a pinch of salt
125 g of butter – 30 g of sugar – 2 sachets of vanilla sugar
vanilla essence, kirsch or rum 3 or 4 eggs
Melt the butter and allow to cool slightly.
Pour the flour into a mixing bowl. Add the salt, sugar and

eggs. Beat with a whisk.
In a bowl, dissolve the baking powder in the liquid. Pour
this mixture into the mixing bowl together with the melted
butter. Flavour according to taste. Beat until the batter is
completely uniform.
Leave to stand for 30 minutes.
Eat the waffles when still warm, sprinkled with icing sugar
or with jam, honey, chestnut purée, chocolate, Chantilly
cream, maple syrup, ice cream, fresh fruit, etc.
- WAFFLES WITH CREME FRAICHE -
500 g of flour, 150 g of butter, 10 g of baking powder, ¼
l of water, ¼ l of crème fraîche, 4 eggs, a pinch of salt.
Pour the flour, salt and egg yokes into a mixing bowl.
In a bowl, dissolve the baking powder in the liquid. Pour
this mixture into the mixing bowl and beat with a whisk
until you obtain a uniform batter.
Add the melted butter, cream, and egg whites, having
beaten them stiff.
Leave to stand for ½ an hour at room temperature. Eat the
waffles when still warm, sprinkled with icing sugar.
SAVOURY :
- WAFFLES WITH HAM -
500 g of flour - 200 g of finely chopped ham - a pinch of
salt - 3 or 4 eggs - 1 sachet of baking powder - 125 g of
butter - 3/4 l of liquid (water, milk and, if you wish, a glass
of dry white wine)

yokes. Beat with a whisk together with the water (having
dissolved the baking powder in the water) and white
wine. Add the melted butter. Beat once more. Add the
finely chopped ham. Then fold in the egg whites, having
beaten them stiff. Leave to stand for ½ and hour. Eat the
waffles immediately after cooking.
- WAFERS -
(OR BRICELETS OR DRY WAFFLES)

rather than cake flour.
- BRICELETS DE DIVONNE -

from 2 lemons - 250 g of flour a pinch of salt

to stand for 24 hours in a cool place. Place a quantity of
batter the size of a walnut on the plate.

- TOASTED SANDWICHES -
- TOASTED CHEESE CANAPES -
Gruyere, Chester or any other type of cheese you can
grate.
Beat the following in a saucepan: 30 g of butter, 30 g of
flour, ¼ litre of milk, 2 egg yokes
Mix and gradually add 50 g of grated cheese. Add
seasoning and spread the batter on slices of French bread
or white loaf (1 cm thick).
- CROQUE-MONSIEUR -
Garnish a slice of bread with grated gruyere. Place a slice
of ham on top of the gruyere. Cover with more gruyere
and place the second slice of bread on top.
- CROQUE “COCOTTE” -
Make a hollow in the first slice of bread with the back of a
spoon, break an egg into it and add seasoning (salt and
pepper). With the spoon, make a similar hollow in the
other slice of bread and place it on top of the egg.
