Baking
Heat comes from the element below the food. The element is controlled
by the thermostat and will turn on and off to maintain the set temperature.
You can use the “Bake” function for single trays of biscuits, scones,
muffins, cakes, slices, casseroles, baked puddings, roasts and delicate egg dishes.
Cook in the lower half of your oven when you are using only one shelf.
We recommend you preheat your oven before cooking. To do this 1. set the temperature you want, 2. when the
oven indicator light goes out, put your food in the oven, close the door and set the timer.
12
UNDERSTANDING THE FUNCTIONS
Fan Baking
Heat comes from the element surrounding the fan. This fan
circulates the hot air around the oven cavity so that you can
put your food in different places in the oven and still cook
them at the same time.
You can use the “Fan bake” function for multi-shelf cooking, reheating cooked foods, pastries and complete
oven meals.
It will cook at a lower temperature and be faster than baking.
Please note that some variation in browning is normal.
We recommend you preheat your oven before cooking. To do this 1. set the temperature you want, 2. when the
oven indicator light goes out, put your food in the oven, close the door and set the timer.
Defrosting
The “Defrost” function uses low temperature air that is
circulated by the fan. You can defrost (thaw) your food before
you cook it. You can also use “Defrost” to raise
your yeast dough and to dry fruit, vegetables and herbs.
2
13
Rapid Heat
Heat comes from the element surrounding the fan as well as
the smaller element above the food.
This allows you to preheat your oven 30% quicker than on
standard “Bake”. To do this 1. Select the “Rapid Heat”
function and then set the desired temperature. 2. When the
indicator light goes out put your food in the oven and close the door.
3. Set the timer and select the cooking function required.
“Rapid Heat” is ideal for cooking frozen pre-cooked foods such as savoury pastries, pizzas, mini meals
(TV dinners), meat pies and fruit pies. Simply place the food in the oven straight from the freezer and heat
- ideal for busy people. Cook in the upper half of the oven for best results.
Baking (Multifunction)
Heat comes from two elements, one above and one below the
food. The bottom element is a clean heat element and is below
the floor of the oven. Both elements are controlled by the
thermostat and will turn on and off to maintain the set temperature.
You can use the “Bake/Pizza” function for single trays of biscuits, scones, muffins,
cakes, slices, casseroles, baked puddings, roasts and delicate egg dishes.
We recommend you preheat your oven before cooking. To do this 1. Set the temperature you want,
2. When the oven indicator light goes out, put your food in the oven, close the door and set the timer.
CAUTION: Do not line the bottom of the oven with foil or damage may occur.
Do not place cookware on the bottom of the oven.
Grilling (In Oven)
The "Grill" directs radiant heat from the powerful upper element
onto the food.
You can use the “Grill” function for tender cuts of meat, steak, chops, sausages,
fish, cheese toasties and other quick cooking foods. Grill with
the oven door open or closed.
Preheat your grill for 3 minutes to get the best results. This will help
seal in the natural juices of steak, chops etc. for a better flavour.
Do not cover the grill rack with foil.
You can slide your grill dish into either of the 2 spaces within the upper pairs of support rails.
IMPORTANT: Always turn your grill off immediately after use as fat left there may catch fire.
WARNING: Accessible parts may become hot when the grill is in use. Children should be kept
away.
2
14
UNDERSTANDING THE FUNCTIONS (Continued)
Grilling (Separate)
The “Grill” works by directing radiant heat which comes from the
powerful upper element onto the food. The grill function is suitable for tender cuts
of meat, steak, chops, sausages, fish, cheese toasties and other quick
cooking foods.
The grill door must be open in separate grill wall oven and closed in separate grill
underbench oven. Best results are obtained after 3 minutes preheat. This will help seal in the natural juices of
steak, chops etc. for a better flavour.
Do not cover the grill rack with foil.
The full width grill dish fitted to this separate grill can be used in any of the 3 height positions provided by the
grill dish side supports.
IMPORTANT: Always turn the grill off immediately after use as fat left there may catch fire.
WARNING: Accessible parts may become hot when the grill is in use. Children should be kept away.
Fan Grilling
“Fan Grill” offers you the benefits of both “Bake” and traditional “Grill”
functions. The grill element turns on and off to maintain the set temperature
while the fan circulates the heated air. The oven door remains closed
for fan grill. On 911 & 912 models both the larger and smaller grill elements operate.
You can use “Fan Grill” for large cuts of meat, which gives you a result that is similar
to “Rotisserie” cooked meat.
Put your food on a shelf in the second lowest shelf position. Put the grill dish on the lowest shelf position to
catch any spills. Set the thermostat to 180°C for all grilling functions.
When using “Fan Grill” it is not necessary to turn the food over during the cooking cycle.
Maxi Grill
Maxi Grill directs radiant heat from 2 powerful upper elements onto
the food. You can use the “Maxi Grill function for tender cuts of meat,
steak, chops, sausages, fish, cheese toasties and other quick cooking foods.
Grill with the oven door closed.
Maxi Grill allows you to take full advantage of the large grill dish area and will cook
faster than normal Grill”. For best results it is recommended to preheat your grill for 3 minutes. This will help
seal in the natural juices of steak, chops etc. for a better flavour.
You can slide your grill dish into either of the 2 spaces within the upper pairs of support rails.
Base Heat (Multifunction)
Heat comes from the element below the food. The element is controlled
by the thermostat and will turn on and off to maintain the set temperature.
The “Base Heat” function can be used to add extra browning to the
bases
of pizzas, pies and pastries.
Cook in the lower half of your oven when you are using only one shelf.
We recommend you preheat your oven before cooking. To do this 1. Set the temperature you want, 2. When the
oven indicator light goes out, put your food in the oven, close the door and set the timer.
CAUTION: Do not line the bottom of the oven with foil or damage may occur.
Do not place cookware on the bottom of the oven.

2
17
USING THE OVEN
Cooling/Venting Fan
There is a cooling/venting fan in all built-in ovens. It will come on whenever you are using your oven and
blow warm air out above the door.
Condensation
Condensation may fog the oven door when you are cooking large quantities of food from a cold start. You
can minimise condensation by:
keeping the amount of water used in cooking to a minimum;
making sure that the oven door is firmly closed;
baking custard in a baking dish which is just a little smaller than the water container;
cooking casseroles with a lid.
Note: If you are using water in cooking, this will turn to steam and may condense outside the oven. This
is not a problem or a fault.
Loading the Shelves (Fan Forced Ovens)
The oven has five positions for shelves. These
are numbered from the lowest to the highest
(see diagram).
You can make the most of the oven, if you
cook more than one tray of food at a time,
eg two trays of scones, small cakes or sausage
rolls.
When placing shelves, it is important to give
the maximum space above and below. Load
shelves in this way:
when baking with one shelf, place it at
shelf position 2,3 or 4.
when cooking with two shelves, place them
at shelf positions 2 and 4.
Hints for better baking
Always pre-heat the oven.
Individual ovens and thermostats vary. It may be necessary to adjust the temperature setting by
10°-20° to achieve the desired result.
Select the correct shelf position for the food.
Make sure dishes fit into the oven before switching it on.
Keep the edges of the baking dishes at least 40mm from the side of the oven.
This provides better circulation of air and better cooking.
Do not open the oven door more than necessary.
Do not place foods with a lot of liquid into the oven with other foods. This will cause
food to steam and not brown.
After the oven is turned off it retains heat. Use this heat to cook custards or to dry bread.
Do not use a lot of cooking oil when roasting. Too much oil will splatter the sides of the
oven.
Use brightly finished aluminium or non-stick cooking pans for sponges and cakes.

USING THE GRILL
What is Grilling?
The grill directs heat from the electric element in the grill
compartment onto the food (see diagram opposite).
This way of cooking traps the juices inside the food and increases
the flavour.
Grilling is suitable for tender cuts of meat, steak, chops,
sausages, fish and other foods which cook quickly.
Using the Grill
1. Choose only good cuts of meat or fish. If the cut is less than 5mm thick, it will dry out while grilling. If the
cut is more than 40mm thick, it may burn on the outside and remain uncooked on the inside.
2. Bring the food to room temperature before you grill it. Food straight from the regrigerator will steam under
the grill.
3. Check these cooking times for each side. Remember these are just a guide and the time taken to cook food
will depend on the size of the food and how much you like it cooked.
Steak 7 – 10 minutes each side
Chops 10 – 15 minutes each side
Fish 4 – 5 minutes each side
Bacon 2 – 3 minutes each side
4. Remove the full width grill dish and grill insert.
5. Preheat the grill for 3 – 5 minutes.
6. Set the height of the grill insert.
The grill insert can be used on both sides to provide two different grill heights.
Thinner pieces of food should be nearer the element and thicker pieces should be 10mm away.
7. Brush the grill insert with oil to stop the food from sticking.
8. Put food on grill insert and put under the grill.
9. Baste the food with oil, butter or marinade, while it is cooking.
10.Use tongs to turn the food as a fork will let juices escape.
2
19
Hints for better grilling
Read this table which gives you advice about cooking different types of meat.
Beef Use tenderloin, rump or sirloin.
Brush with oil or melted butter, especially if the meat is lean.
Lamb Use loin chops, chortloin chops, chump chops or forequarter chops.
Remove skin or cut to stop curling.
Brush with oil or melted butter.
Sausages Prick sausages to stop skins from bursting.
Poultry Divide into serving pieces and brush with oil.
Fish Brush with oil or melted butter and lemon juice.
Bacon Remove rind.
Grill flat and make into rolls.
Safety warnings about the grill
Do not cook food on the bottom of the grill compartment. Always use the grill dish and
smokeless grill.
Do not place foil under the food on the insert, as this prevents fats and oils running away
and may cause a fire.
Always use the grill parts according to instructions.
Do not put thick pieces of food too near the element. They may curl and catch fire.
Always turn the grill off immediately after cooking. Left-over fat may cause a fire.
Always clean the grill dish and insert after use. This will prevent fat building up and causing
a fire.
Do not let children play with the grill.
Do not children use the grill, if you are not with them.
Stay in the kitchen when the grill is on.
Be careful not to touch hot surfaces.
Do not spray aerosols near the grill, when it is turned on.
Do not keep flammable materials in or near the grill, eg chemicals, aerosols, etc.
Handling grilling problems
Problem What to do
Meat overcooked on outside and raw in centre Grill at lower smokeless cover position
Chops and steaks curling Cut fat with knife towards meat
Juices running out of meat Do not pierce meat with fork, turn with tongs
