SAFETYPRECAUTIONS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following:
This refl'igerator must be properl} installed
and located in accordance _dth the Installation
Instructions befl)re it is used.
Do not allow children to climb, stand or hang
on the shelves in the refl'igerator. They could
damage the refl'igerator and seriously iD.jure
themselves.
{ Do not touch the cold surfaces in the freezer
compartment xd]en hands are damp or _et.
Skin may stick to these extremely cold
surfi_ces.
Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable
x_pors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any
other appliance.
Kee I) fingers out of the "pinch point" areas;
clearances between the doors and between
the doors and cabinet are necessarily small.
Be carefld closing doors when children are
in the area.
In refl'igerato_s with automatic icemake_s,
avoid contact with the moving parts of the
ejector mechanism, or with the heating
element that releases the cubes. Do not place
fingers or hands on the automatic icemaking
mechanism while the reti'igerator is plugged in.
Unplug the refl'igerator befl)re cleaning and
making repairs.
NOTE: We strongly recommend that any servicing be
performed by a quafif/efl #Tdiv/flual.
Turning the control to the 0 position does
not remove power to the light circuit.
Do not refi'eeze fi'ozen foods which have
thawed completely.
DANGER!RISKOFCHILDENTRAPMENT
PROPERDISPOSALOFTHEREFRIGERATOR
Child entrapment and suffocation are not
problems of the past. Junked or abandoned
refl'igerators are still dangerous...even if they
will sit for 'ijust a few da):s." If you are getting
rid of your old refl'igerator, please fi)llow the
instructions below to help prevent accidents.
Before You ThrowAway YourOld
Refrigerator or Freezer:
Take off"the doors.
{ Leaxe the shelves in place so that children
may not easily" climb inside.
Refrigerants
_1 refi'igeration products contain refi'igerants,
which under tederal law must be removed prior
to product disposal. If you are getting rid of an
old refl'igeration product, check with the
company handling the disposal about what
to do.
USEOFEXTENSIONCORDS
Because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly recommend against
the use of an extension cord.
H(mexer, if}ou must use an extension cord, it is absolutel} necessar} that it be a UL-listed,
3-wire grounding _i)e appliance extension cord haxing a ....grounding t_ l)eI)lug, and outlet and
that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and 120 volts.

WARNING!
HOWTOCONNECTELECTRICITY
Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord.
For personal safety, this appliance must be properly grounded.
Tile power cord of this appliance is equipped
with a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates
with a standard 3-i)rong (grounding) wall outlet
to minimize the possibility of electric shock
hazard fl'om this appliance.
Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a
qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is
l)rol)erly grounded.
Where a standard 9-prong wall outlet is
encountered, it is your i)ersonal resi)onsibili V
and obligation to have it rei)laced with a
properly grounded 3-i)rong wall outlet.
The refl'igerator should always be plugged into
its own individual electrical outlet which has a
voltage rating that matches the rating [)late.
This proxides the best l)erfbrmance and also
l)rexents overloading house wiring circuits which
could cause a fire hazard fi'om overheated _dres.
Never tmplug your refrigerator by pulling on the
l)ower cord. Alwa):s grip plug firmly and pull
straight out fl'om the outlet.
Repair or rei)lace immediately all power cords
that have become fl'ayed or otherwise damaged.
Do not use a cord that shows cracks or abrasion
damage ahmg its length or at either end.
X_\hen moving the refl'igerator away fl'om the
wall, be careflfl not to roll over or damage the
l)ower cord.

Normal operating sounds.
Newer refrigerators sound different from older refrigerators. Modern refrigerators
have more features and use newer technology.
Do you hear what I hear? These sounds are normal
HUMMM...
-- WHOOSH...
The new high efficiency compressor may run filster
and longer than your old refl'igerator and yot! Inay
hear a high-pitched huln or pulsating sound while
it is operating.
Mm may hear a whooshing sound when file doors close.
This is due to pressure equafizing wiflfin fl_e refl'igerator
CLICKS, POPS,
CRACKS and CHIRPS
You may hear cracking or popping sounds when the
refi'igerator is first plugged in. This happens as the
refl'igerator cools to the correct temperature.
The compressor may cause a clicking or clfirping
sound when attempting to restart (this could take
up to 5 minutes).
Expansion and contraction of cooling coils during
and after defl'ost can cause a cracking or ix)pping
SO lind.
WHIRl
You may hear the rims sphming at high speeds.
This hal)pens when the refl'igerator is first i)lugged
in, when the doo_s are opened fl'equently or when
a large amount of tood is added to the refl'igerator
or fl'eezer compartments. The rims are helping to
maintain the correct temperatures.
WA']'£RSOUNDS
6
The flow of refl'igerant through the fl'eezer cooling
coils may make a gurgling noise like boiling water.
Water dropping on the defi'ost heater can cause a
sizzling, popping or buzzing sound during the
defi'ost cycle.
A water dripping noise may occur during the defi'ost
c)vle as ice melts fl'om the evaporator and fl(m_s into
the drain pan.
Closing the door may cause a gmgling sound due to
pressure equalization.
