SECURE WORK. Usa clampsor a viceto hold

DON'T OVERREACH. Keep properfooting and
balanceat all times. Do notusa while standing

DISCONNECT TOOLS. When not in use, before
servicing,or when changingor adjustingsanding
belt,attachments, blades, bits,cutters,etc., all
toolsshouldbe disconnectedfrom power supply.
REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND
WRENCHES. Form habitofcheckingto see that
keys and adjustingwrenches are removed from
tool beforeturning it on.
AVOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING. Don'tcaw
plugged-intool with finger on switch,Be sure
switchis offwhen pluggingin.
MAKE SURE YOUR EXTENSION CORD IS IN
GOOD CONDITION, When usingan extension
cord,be sureto use one heavyenoughto carry
the currentyour productwilldraw.An undersized
cord willcause a drop in linevoltage resulting in
lossof powerand overheating.Awire gage size
(A.W.G.) ofat least 16 is recommended foran

extension cord 100 feet or lessin length. A cord
exceeding 100 feet is notrecommended. If in
doubt, usethe next heavier gage. The smaller
the gage number,the heavierthe cord.
OUTDOOR USE EXTENSION CORDS. When
tool isused outdoors,use onlyextensioncords
suitablefor useoutdoors.Outdoor approved
cordsare markedwith the suffixW-A, for ex-
ample - SJTW-A or SJOW-A.
NEVER USE THIS OR ANY POWER SANDER
FOR WET SANDING. Failureto complycan

KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM SANDING AREA.
NEVER USE IN AN EXPLOSIVE ATMO-
SPHERE. Normal sparkingofthe motor could
ignitefumes.
INSPECT TOOL CORDS PERIODICALLY and if
damaged, have repairedat your nearest Sears
Repair Canter, Stay constantlyaware ofcord
locationand keep it well away from the sanding
area.
INSPECT EXTENSION CORDS PERIOD/-
CALLY and replace ifdamaged.
KEEP HANDLES DRY, CLEAN, AND FREE
FROM OIL AND GREASE. Always usea clean
clothwhen cleaning.Never use brakefluids,
gasoline, petroleum-based products,or any
strongsolventstoclean yourtool.
STAYALERTAND EXERCISE CONTROL.
Watch whet you are doingand usecommon
sense. Do not operatetoolwhen you are tired.
Do not rush.
CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Beforefurther use
ofthe tool,a guardor otherpartthat is damaged
shouldbecarefully checked todetermine that it
willoperate properlyand perform itsintended
function,Checkfor alignmentof moving parts,
bindingof movingparts, breakageof parts,
mounting and any otherconditionsthat may

medium, and fine grit sanding discs.

Yoursanderhasa precisionbuiltslectdc motor.It
shouldbe connectedto a power supply that is 120
volts, E0 Hz, AG only (normal household current),
Do notoperatethistool on directcurrent(DC). A
substantialvoltagedropwillcausea lossof powerand
the motorwilloverheat. Ifyoursander does not
operatewhen pluggedintoan outlet,double-checkthe
powersupply.
RANDOM ORBIT
The randomorbit motionprovidesoverlappingsanding
movements by combiningorbitaland turning motion.
These overlapping sanding movements provide fast
cuttingactionwith excellentsanding results.

Your sander isequippedwith a "lock-on" feature,
whichis convenientwhen continuoussandingfor
extendedpedodsoftime isrequired.To Iock,.on,
depressthe switchtrigger,push inand holdthe lock-
on buttonlocatedon the side of the handle,then
release switchtrigger. Release lock-onbuttonand
yoursanderwillcontinuerunning.To release the
lock, depressswitchtriggerand release it.
Ifyou havethe "lock-on"feature engaged duringuse
and yoursander becomes disconnectedfrom power
supply,disengagethe "lock.on"feature immediately,

SANDING DISC SELECTION
Selectingthe correctsize gritand type sandingdiscis
anextremely importantstep in achieving a high
quality sanded finish. Aluminumoxide, siliconcarbide,
and othersyntheticabrasivesare bestfor power
sanding. Natural abrasives, suchas flintand garnet
aretoo softfor economicaluse in power sanding.
In general, coarse gritwill remove the mostmatedal
and finergritwill producethe best finish inall sanding
operations.The condition ofthe surfaceto be sanded
willdeterminewhichgritwilldo thejob. Ifthe surface
isrough, startwith a coarse gritand sand untilthe
surfaceis uniform.Medium gnt may then be usedto
remove scratchesleft bythe coarsergdt andfinergrit
usedfor finishingof the surface.Always continue
sanding with each grituntilsurface isuniform.

Place sanderon workpiecesothat all ofsanding disc
surfaceisin contactwithworkplace.Startyour sander
and move itslowlyover workplacemakingsuccessive
passesin parallellines,circles,or crosswise
movements. Upon completionof sanding operation,
turnsander offand wait untilsanding disccomesto a
completestop before removing from workplace.
WARNING: Your sander shouldonlybe on
when entire surfaceof sandingdisc isin contact
withworkplace. Failureto follow this sanding
procedurecouldresult in loose sandingdisc
whichcould resultin possible seriousinjury.
Do not force. The weight ofthe unitsupplies
adequate pressure,so letthe sanding disc and
sander do the work.Applyingadditionalpressureonly
slowsthe motor,rapidlywears sanding discand
greatlyreduces sander speed. Excessivepressure
willovedoad the motorcausingpossibledamage from
motoroverheating and can resultin inferiorwork.Any
finish or resin onwood may softenfrom thefrictional
heat. Do notallow sanding onone spottoo long as
the sanders rapid actionmay remove too much
material, makingthe surface uneven,

REMOVE BANDING DISC BEFORE STORAGE
Do not storeyoursanderwith a sandingdisc installed.
Heat generatedfrom sandingcauses the pressure
sensitiveadhesiveto flow and form a tightbond
betweenthe backingpad and sending disc.
Removingthe sending discsoonafter you have
finisheda sandingoperationavoidslettingthe
adhesiveset up. If the sandingdisc is leftonthe
beckingpad for an extended period of timeafter use,
the adhesivewill set up end cause the sandingdiscto
becomedifficultto remove. It may also tear when
removing.When this situationoccurs,itbecomes
difficultto cleanthe backing padfor the nextsanding
disc,
Note: If youforget to remove the sending discaftera
sending operation,sandfor a few minutesto soften
the adhesive backingbeforeattemptingto remove
sending disc.
A WARNING: Do not usethis productas a
componentofother products.Also,do not use
attachmentsor accessoriesnot recommended
for usewiththis product,Any such usecould

double insulationsystem and shouldbe servicedonly

Avoid usingsolventswhen cleaningplasticparts.
Most plasticsare susceptibleto damage from various
types ofcommercial solventsand may be damaged
bytheir use, Use clean clothsto remove dirt, carbon
dust,etc.
_L WARNING: Do notat any time letbrake fluids,
gasoline, petroleum-basedproducts,penetrating
oils,etc. come incontact with plasticparts, They
containchemicalsthat can damage, weaken or
destroyplastic.
Ithas been found that electrictoolsare subjectto
acceleratedwear and possiblepremature failure when
they are used on fiberglassboats, sportscars,
wallboard,spacklingcompounds,or plaster.The
chipsand gdndingsfrom these materialsare highly
abrasiveto electrictoolparts suchas bearings,
brushes,commutators,etc. Consequently, itis not
recommended that thistool be used forextended
work on any fiberglass material, wallboard,spackling
compounds,or plaster. During any use onthese
materials itisextremely importantthatthe tool is
creanedfrequently byblowingwithan air jet.

LUBRICATION
Allofthe beadogs inthis toolare lubricatedwith a
sufficientamountof highgrade lubricantfor the life of
the unitundernormaloperatingconditions,Therefore,
nofurther lubncationis required.
EXTENSION CORDS
The usaof anyextensioncordwillcause some lossof
power.To keepthe lossto a minimumand to prevent
tooloverheating,usa anextension cordthat isheavy
enoughto carrythe currentthe toolwilldraw,

in length,When workingoutdoors,usean extension
