SAFETY
At Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc., your boat was designed and crafted with safety first to insure
that you have good days on the water. It is important that you take the time to familiarize yourself
with all operating systems on your boat as well as all safety components that are built in the craft.
Your manual and other product information in your owner’s packet are a valuable tool and reference
guide. As the owner, it is your responsibility for the safety of the boat and passengers—that includes
knowing all safety guidelines, recommended usage of the craft and its components, as well as local
laws.
Reviewing all warning labels and safety recommendations is a great place to start. All Starcraft Ma-
rine/SmokerCraft Inc. boats are NMMA certified and surpass all requirements. For more information
go to www. NMMA.org.
Before each day on the water, take the time to verify that all required safety equipment is on board
the craft. Inform all passengers of the location of all equipment and demonstrate how to use it. Peri-
odically inspect all equipment for proper operating condition and replace any that is not working or
shows wear. It is your responsibility to be aware of any safety equipment changes based on local/
state laws.
You should know and understand (but not limited to) the following safe boating recommendations:
BASIC SAFE BOATING:
 NEVER operate a boat while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Using either or both is
a federal offense.
 Always use common courtesy. Obey Rules of the Road as outlined in U.S. Coast Guard publica-
tions.
 Keep your boat and safety gear in good working condition. Inspect the boat, engine, trailer, and
all other gear and equipment regularly. This includes safety equipment.
 Read. Understand. Locate. Follow all warning labels.
 Check to make sure that lifesaving equipment and fire-extinguishers are on board. It is necessary
that the equipment meets all regulations. All equipment is to be easily seen, accessible, and in
good working condition. Your passengers should be instructed on the location of all equipment
and how to use it. Children are to be supervised at all times.
 Never allow anyone under the age of 16 to operate the boat at any time.
 When possible, obtain current charts of the area you are boating. Always maintain accurate, up-
dated charts.
 Before departing, leave travel plans with a responsible person on shore indicating where you are
going and when you expect to return.
 Instruct at least one person on the boat about basic safe boating operations to be used in case of
an emergency.
 Do not overload or improperly load your boat. Use the information on your capacity plate as a
guide for load limits. Be sure to check water and weather conditions as this will determine the
capacity of your boat.
 Passengers are required to ride in designated seating areas only when the boat is in motion. Pas-
sengers should remain seated once the craft is under way. Do not allow passengers to ride on
bow, transom, rail, sun deck, backrest, or swivel fishing seat.
 The engine must be shut off and the propeller stopped moving before allowing swimmers or
skiers to enter or exit the boat.

local and state regulations and call the U.S. Coast Guard Safety Hotline at 800-369-5647 for additional
information and on required safety equipment. Minimum requirements include:
 Personal Flotation Devices (PFD). Check local and state regulations for restrictions.
 Fire Extinguisher

 Horn
 Throwable Life Buoy
It is advisable for children and non-swimmers to wear PFDs at all times.

Charts of Boating Area Sunscreen Lotion Boat Hook Signal Flares
Foul Weather Gear VHF Radio Life Ring Compass
Extra Warm Clothing Flashlight Oar/Paddle
SAFE BOATING PRACTICES
You are responsible for the safety of your passengers, your boat, and others on the water. Please keep
the following safe boating practices in mind as you get under way:
 Alcohol, drugs, and boating do not mix. EVER! Not only does it hamper reaction times and coor-
dination, it also effects judgment and vision. Federal laws also prohibit the operation of a boat while
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
 Safe operation demands that you and your passengers use your boat as intended. Safe operation also
means that good judgment is used at all times and includes, but not limited to, the following:
 Load your boat using the capacity plate for weight limits. Remember to distribute the weight
bow to stern and starboard to port.
 Never exceed the stated maximum power rating as shown on the capacity plate.
 Provide Personal Flotation Device for each passenger.
 Boat speed should be at or below the local legal limit. Excessive speeds and speeds not appro-
priate for weather conditions do not promote safe boating.
 Never use your boat in weather or water conditions that require skills beyond your experience
level. This also applies to the capabilities of the boat and the passengers.
 Never leave the shore without one person in the boat who is familiar with the operation and
safety requirements of the boat.
 Always keep gates closed while the boat is in motion to prevent accidental falls overboard. Such
falls can result in injury or even death from the propeller.
 Never allow passengers to ride on the foredeck or sundeck while the boat is in motion. Doing
so will prevent falls overboard and possible injury or death from the propeller.
 Passengers and gear must never obscure the view or hinder the movement of the driver.
 Make sure that the engine is off and that the propeller has completely stopped before allowing
passengers to enter or exit the boat using boarding ladders.
 DO NOT SMOKE WHILE FUELING YOUR BOAT.
Fire Extinguisher is a must. The U.S. Coast Guard requires that a marine-type fire extinguisher be
on board all crafts with an engine and fuel system. A hand-portable type B-1 or B-11 extinguisher
must be mounted in an easily accessible location within the boat. Be sure that the label on the extin-
guisher states “Marine Type USCG”.

- Making sure the way is clear in front of you, apply enough throttle to get the skier up.
- Spotter should be watching skier for signals. Skier should signal speed rate changes.
- Spotter should watch for the OK signal when skier goes down.

CARING FOR YOUR STARCRAFT Marine/SMOKERCRAFT Inc. BOAT
Routine care of your Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. boat will keep your INVESTMENT looking
like new even after years of use. Your Starcraft/SmokerCraft dealer or local marina can provide you
with all the necessary services. For those owners who prefer to handle maintenance on their own, the
following is a good source for general information and procedures.
It is recommended that your boat be put in storage when not in use to protect it from the weather.
Storage inside, under roof, and with a mooring cover in place will aid in safeguarding your boat from
sun, water, dirt, and grime that can cause permanent damage to your boat. Your boat should never be
docked or stored under trees as leaves, dirt, and other debris can cause damage to all surfaces within
the boat.
Before starting any maintenance, check with your Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. dealer or local
marina for the necessary tools, supplies, and procedures. A complete reading of all manufacture and
accessory owner’s manuals is also encouraged.
Test all cleaners in a small hidden area of item(s) to be cleaned. If area is affected by cleaner, do not
use further.
ENGINE:
Refer to the engine owner’s manual for complete and specific care and maintenance for your boat’s
engine. Flushing engine after use in shallow or salt water is recommended. In addition, winterization
is key in preventing damage to the engine during cold, freezing weather.
ALUMINUM SURFACES:
Cleaning
All aluminum surfaces should be rinsed often and completely. Aluminum should be cleaned with
water and mild detergents. Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners should NEVER be used. Stains or
light corrosion can be removed with a good metal polish. Check with your local dealer for suggested
cleaners and polish. Please note: it is important to keep in mind that over a period of time unpainted
bright aluminum surfaces will oxidize presenting grey coloring.
Tube Corrosion
Your Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. boat has been built using the most modern building tech-
niques with the highest grade of aluminum available. This combination has dramatically reduced the
amount of corrosion that could occur—especially in salt water exposure. If you are using your boat in
salt water, PONTOON TUBES SHOULD BE WASHED AFTER EACH USE.
Trailer Bunks hold salt water. Pontoon tubes can become corroded rest-
ing against the bunks for an extended length of time. RINSE your pon-
toon tubes after each use.
Salt Water can also act as an conductor for electricity. NEVER charge your batteries
while the pontoon is sitting in the water.
Motor Pan
It is important that you keep the motor pan area clear of all debris. Trash, leaves, and oil are a dan-
gerous combination and can create the potential for fire. Clear the area, wash with a mild detergent
and rinse thoroughly with fresh water on a regular basis.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CARE:
Damaged electrical wires and unsecure batteries can cause injury to both persons and boat. Report
any damaged electrical wires to you dealer for servicing. Periodically check to make sure that the
batteries are securely mounted and that the connections are clean and tight.
Incorrect wiring can cause fire or damage to essential parts and accessories. It is recom-
mended that all equipment be wired by your dealer. To prevent damage to electrical equip-
ment, it is important to keep all wiring connections protected with electrical tape and that
components are kept securely stowed from rain, water, or spray.

FLOOR COVERINGS:
Just like the floor coverings in your home, regular vacuuming and cleaning will keep the coverings
looking great for many years. Keep your boat covered when not in use and remove any leaves, twigs,
or excess water before covering.
Carpet
Should there be a spill or a stain, immediately use warm water with a mild household detergent to
clean the area. Flush with clean warm water. Your dealer can recommend other cleaners for more
stubborn stains. Never use cleaners that would be used in dry cleaning. Check labels and never use
anything that lists Perchloretheylene, Carbon Tetrachloride, etc.
It’s important to keep your carpet dry as over time mold and mildew can occur.
NEVER drill or use a hole saw. Doing so can cause unrepairable damage to the carpet.
Vinyl Flooring
A low-sudsing cleaner such as Spic and Span can be used to clean the vinyl flooring in your Starcraft
Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. boat. If your boat is in the water, contact your local dealer for suggested
environmentally safe products. Use a soft bristle brush or sponge to clean the flooring. Be sure to
completely rinse with clean water. NOTE: In some cases, products used on the flooring are not rec-
ommended for use on other vinyl areas such as furniture.
PlasDeck Flooring
The PlasDeck flooring is a plastic textured product. A small power washer (1500 psi) does a great job
of lifting dirt and grime from the deck. As with all floorings, spills of any type should be cleaned im-
mediately. Boat wash or a soapy dish wash that contains a safe degreaser can be used. A soft bristle
brush is also recommended. NEVER wear black-soled shoes as they may leave scuff marks. Plas-
Deck flooring needs no maintenance or application of protectants.
LIVEWELL SYSTEM CARE:
ALWAYS use fresh water when cleaning the livewell. Detergents, soaps, or other cleaners tend to
leave a residue and will kill any fish placed in the livewell. Keep all hoses clean and clear of clogs.
FURNITURE:
Basic care will keep your furniture looking good for years. Immediately clean any spills or stains.
Suntan lotion, insect repellents, pollen, leaves, and some other products can cause permanent staining
if the furniture is not cleaned regularly. It is recommended that you keep the boat covered when not
in use to keep leaves and other debris from collecting in the boat.
Mildew, mold, pinking, yellowing or other types of staining can occur if the vinyl is not cared for
with appropriate products or on an on-going basis. This type of damage whether caused by human
factor or environmental event is not covered under your Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. warranty.
Please note: many vinyl manufacturers consider pinking to be an act of nature and may not be cov-
ered under warranty.

market that can be applied to the seams to help prevent leaks. Starcraft Marine/SmokerCraft Inc. does
not cover canvas leaks under its warranty.
Cleaning -
Your canvas tops should be cleaned on a regular basis. Brush off any dirt and hose down the canvas
