from yourself before turning it on. Never point the tool at
yourself, others, the power cord or flammable materials.
Do not force the tool – It will perform better with less
likelihood of personal or mechanical injury if it is used at
the rate for which it was designed.
Do not run – Never run while operating the tool.
Avoid slipping – Maintain proper footing and balance
at all times to avoid slipping or falling. Wear non-slip
footwear to improve your footing on slippery surfaces.
Avoid water - Do not expose the burner + lighter to rain,
damp or wet conditions. Do not immerse in water. Water

Stay alert – Watch what you are doing. Use common
sense. Do not operate the burner + lighter when you are
tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other
medication.
Unplug the tool – Unplug the burner + lighter when it is
not in use, before servicing, and when performing any

Electrical Safety
Please check the data marked on the rating label of the
tool. Be sure to connect the burner + lighter to a power
supply with the appropriate voltage as specified on the
rating label. Never connect it to a different mains voltage.
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify
the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with
earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection should
be equipped on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for
this burner + lighter. Receptacles are available with built-
in GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of
safety.
To prevent electric shock, use only with an extension cord
suitable for outdoor use, such as SW, SOW, STW, STOW,
SJTW or SJTOW. Before use, check that the extension
cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord,
make sure to use one thick enough to carry the current
draw of the product. An undersized cord will cause a drop
in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.
m WARNING! m
Electric shock may cause SEVERE INJURY or
DEATH. Heed these warnings:
Do not allow any part of the burner + lighter to
make contact with water while it is in operation. If
the tool becomes wet while turned off, wipe dry
before starting.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance
has a polarized plug (i.e. one blade is wider
than the other). Use this appliance only with a
polarized UL-, CSA-, or ETL-listed extension cord
recommended for outdoor, all-weather use, such
as the Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® SJTW-A 14-gauge
50-foot extension cord with lighted end (Model
PJEXT50-B). Visit snowjoe.com to purchase this
extension cord online or, to order by phone, call
1-866-SNOWJOE (1-866-766-9563).
Do not use an extension cord over 100 ft (30 m).
Do not touch the appliance or its plug with wet
hands or while standing in water. Wearing rubber
boots offers some protection.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a
polarized plug (i.e. one blade is wider than the other). The
appliance plug will only fit into a polarized outlet one way.
If the appliance plug does not fit fully into the outlet,
reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, make sure
that you are using the correct polarized wall outlet. If the
plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to
install the proper wall outlet. Do not modify the appliance
plug, power cord receptacle, or power cord plug in any
way.
To prevent the appliance cord from disconnecting from the
extension cord during operation, make a knot with the two
cords as shown in Table 1.

Table 1. Method of Securing Extension Cord Double-Insulated Appliances
In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation
are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is
provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a means
for grounding be added to the appliance. Servicing a double-
insulated appliance requires extreme care and knowledge
of the system, and should be performed only by qualied
service personnel at an authorized Snow Joe® + Sun Joe®
dealer. Replacement parts for a double-insulated appliance
must be identical to the parts they replace. A double-insulated
appliance is marked with the words “Double Insulation” or
“Double Insulated.” The symbol (square within a square)
may also be marked on the appliance.
DOUBLE-INSULATED: GROUNDING NOT
REQUIRED. WHEN SERVICING, USE ONLY
IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS.
This burner + lighter is double-insulated, eliminating the
need for a separate grounding system. Use only identical
replacement parts. Read the instructions before servicing
double-insulated appliances. Use this burner + lighter only as
described in this manual.

3. Insert the pole into the rear socket of the burner + lighter
(Fig. 8).
4. Screw the locking collar onto the rear socket to lock the
pole in place (Fig. 9).
Operation
The burner + lighter is most eective against young plants with
a high moisture content. For older, dryer or particularly hardy
plants such as thistles, multiple treatments may be required.
The weeds only need to be heated. Burning is not necessary.
The thermal shock dries out the cells, causing the weed to
die over the course of several days or weeks. A successful
treatment may not be immediately visible.
For use in areas of uncontrolled growth, repeat the treatment
several times at short intervals before repeating the process at
longer intervals.
1. Plug the power cord into a power outlet (Fig. 2).
2. Push the On/Off switch to turn on the burner + lighter
(Fig. 3).

3. Place the nozzle over the weed for approximately 5
seconds. For larger weeds, heat the plant for 5
-10
seconds (Fig. 10).
4. After using the burner + lighter, switch off and unplug
the tool from the power supply before resting it on the
kickstand to allow it to cool (Fig. 5).
Maintenance + Storage
mWARNING! Do not use detergents, acids, alkaline
solutions, bleaches or solvents such as acetone to clean your
weed sweeper. These substances may damage the plastic
housing of the tool.
To clean the tool, use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe down
the burner + lighter. Never spray water or wash with water.
Inspect the burner + lighter for worn, missing, or damaged
parts. Replace or repair damaged parts immediately.
When servicing this unit, use only identical replacement
parts. Unofficial replacement parts may compromise
performance and safety.
Do not tamper or modify the device.
