Thank you.
For having placed your trust in CARRERA – and for giving us the
opportunity to prove you right with our toaster.
Everything is driven by one idea.
Each CARRERA appliance follows a clear concept.
No consideration of existing gender roles, no pink for women or blue
for men. Since when did quality and performance have a gender?
We create technology maximising user friendliness, handling and
aesthetics and bringing performance to life. Directly when switching
on the appliance and even after many years. Performance is not just
delivered by the motor alone, but results from the skilful interplay of
each individual component.
We just call it the CARRERA boost.
Although we have not reinvented the wheel, we had the courage
to do right what is crucial and to dispense with everything that is
unimportant.
That is our style. And you will rediscover it in each further CARRERA
appliance.

05. FIRST INITIAL USE
Remove any remaining packaging material from the toasting slot and pull
off the protective film.
FIG. A
Before using the appliance for the first time, you should operate the appliance
several times with short cooling intervals at the highest browning control set-
ting without bread and with adequate room ventilation.
Method:
Adjust the required cable length. Wind any extra cable onto the cable stor-
age
8
and connect the appliance according to instructions (Follow safety
instructions) (A).
Depress the lowering button
7
downwards until it locks into place.
Set the variable browning control (see chapter „Browning control adjust-
ment“).
25
06. INITIAL USE AND OPERATION
FIGS. B–G
Inserting bread for toasting
Put one untoasted slice of bread into each of the two toasting slots (B).
Ensure that the slices of bread do not become stuck.
Depress the lowering button
7
downwards until it locks into place (C).
The appliance is now switched on and starts toasting immediately. Directly
set the desired browning level (see “Browning control adjustment”).
Browning control adjustment
Set the variable browning control 1–9 (light to dark) required using the
browning level indicator v   w
5
(D). The appropriate browning level indica-
tore
3
lights up.
The browning level 1–9 are intended as a guide:
Browning levels 16: light to dark browning;
Browning levels 7–9: crisping up/heating of bread rolls with the warming
rack unfolded.
Depending on the type of bread, size, humidity content, number and thick-
ness of the slices, the level of browning may differ at the same variable
browning control setting.
A different setting should be selected for mixed-grain bread (see chapter Tips”).
WARNING! Dry slices of toast or slices which have already been toas-
ted can catch fire. Set the browning level onto
2
, and keep an eye
on the appliance (see chapter „REHEAT”).
Toasting
The toasting time is indicated by the browning control: the level indicators
light up successively, starting with 1 up to the adjusted level (E). When the
adjusted browning level has been reached, the appliance switches off auto-
matically (F).
If the bread becomes too brown during toasting, you can always interrupt
toasting by pressing the button STOP
6
(G).
The appliance switches off automatically and the slices of toast are lifted up for
removal. By lifting the lowering button / toast lift
7
, toast and smaller slices can
be removed more easily.
DANGER! Fire hazard
Higher browning levels are only suitable when using the warming rack for
heating. Before toasting, make sure you set the appropriate browning level.
NOTE! The previously adjusted browning level is always stored, even if the
appliance is switched off or dead.
26
07. FUNCTIONS
FIGS. H–I
Reheating
Toast which has cooled down or which was not removed immediately can be
reheated.
Insert bread and depress the lowering button
7
downwards until it locks
into place.
After that set the browning level to
2
using the browning level indicator
v   w
5
(H).
The bread is re-heated without additional browning.
The appliance switches off automatically after the re-heating process and the
slices of bread are lifted up for removal.
Defrosting
Frozen bread for toasting is defrosted and then browned to the selected
browning level.
Insert bread and depress the lowering button
7
downwards until it locks
into place.
Set the variable browning control 1–6 (light to dark) required using the
browning level indicator v   w
5
. Then press button
4
– the defrosting
control lamp lights up red (I).
After defrosting and toasting, the appliance switches off, the control lamp
goes off, and the toast can be removed.
08. WARMING RACK
NOTE! Heat bread rolls with swung-out warming rack only!
Never toast bread and heat up rolls simultaneously!
FIGS. J–M
Backing rolls
Swing the integrated warming rack
1
out using rotary switch
10
(J).
Place the bread rolls on the warmin rack and depress the lowering button
7
downwards until it locks into place (K).
Set the variable browning control 1-9 (light to dark) required using the
browning level indicator v   w
5
. The appropriate browning level indicator
3
lights up (L). If you should notice that the bread rolls are becoming too
brown during toasting, you can always interrupt the process by pressing the
button STOP
6
.
27
To improve the results, turn the rolls over and repeat the toasting operation.
Swing the warming rack
1
in again using rotary switch
10
(M).
09. TIPS
If just one slice of bread is toasted, the browning will be darker with the
same variable browning control setting.
So that dry rolls toast better, they should be dampened slightly before
heating.
A lower browning control setting should be selected for bread of a lower
moisture content and for smaller and thinner slices.
Mixed-grain bread generally requires longer toasting than normal toast
bread so the browning control switch should be raised 1–2 settings.
10. CLEANING AND CARE
FIG. N
Falling crumbs are collected in the crumb tray
9
. Pull out the crumb tray for
cleaning (N), empty it, and then slide it back into place.
