Hose Information
Depending on other installed equipment, it might be necessary to move the
air/oil separation tank from its intended location. The hoses used in VMAC
compressor systems have a specific inner liner that is compatible with VMAC
compressor oil. Use of hoses other than those supplied or recommended by
VMAC may cause compressor damage and may void your warranty. Please
contact VMAC for replacement hoses and further information.
VMAC compressor oil will degrade rubber lined hoses. Use
only hoses with an AQP elastomer type liner. Contact VMAC
Technical Support at 1-888-241-2289 for further information.
Only attempt to shorten the supplied hose if you have
access to the necessary equipment to do so properly. DO
NOT cut and splice the hose using hose clamps.

Pre-Service Procedures
Confirm that the system is depressurized prior to performing
any service work.
Do not use flammable solvents to clean any components. If a
flammable solvent has been used, rinse the component
thoroughly with water and dry it before reinstalling it to
prevent the possibility of explosion.
Failure to depressurize the system could cause parts to
separate explosively, causing injury or death. A leak of high-
pressure oil/air mixture spray can have enough force to
penetrate the skin, which could cause serious injury or death.
The compressor and the compressor system gets very hot
during operation. Allow the system to cool before attempting
service. Contact with hot components or hot oil can cause
serious burns.
Do not use compressed air or perform any other tasks around
the filter and cover until both are replaced. Never clean the
filter element with compressed air, as this will allow some
contaminates into the compressor system. Always replace the
air filter element.
Shut down the welder/compressor system. Allow the compressor system to
fully depressurize. Allow sufficient time for all components to cool before
commencing any servicing.
Regardless of the age and model of the welder, all services can be performed
through the access cover(s). On some models an additional panel may need
to be removed (Figure 3 and Figure 4 on next page).

4 L of oil is required for servicing. The air compressor system
holds 5 L of oil which includes enough to fill the oil filter. The
filter holds 0.3 L of oil, and the compressor holds 0.5 L of oil.
Inspect the O-ring on the dipstick for abrasions or nicks. Replace the O-
ring if damaged. Install the oil level dipstick and tighten it securely
(Figure 9).
Compressor oil is corrosive to rubber, ensure a Viton type
O-ring is used, (VMAC P/N: 5830112) contact VMAC at
1-888-241-2289 or tech@vmacair.com for more information.

Checking the Compressor Oil Level
Only check the oil level when the engine is off and the air
system is cool and depressurized.
Unscrew the oil level dipstick and remove it. Ensure the O-ring on the
dipstick is not damaged (Figure 10).
Figure 10 Dipstick Location and Removal
Wipe the oil level dipstick with a clean cloth or paper towel.
The dipstick must be screwed all the way in to correctly gauge
the oil level.
Insert the oil level dipstick and screw it all the way in, then unscrew and
remove it.
Check the level mark the oil has reached on the oil level dipstick. The oil
level is acceptable when it reads between the, “high” and “low” marks on
the dipstick (Figure 11).

The compressor system is a closed loop. After draining oil,
there will be residual oil in various components of this system.
Use caution when re-filling the system with oil to ensure that
the oil level does not exceed the high mark indicated on the
dipstick. Overfilling could lead to oil going downstream into
equipment.
Refit the oil level dipstick and check that all components and hoses are
correctly connected and tight and the system is ready for operation.
Changing the Compressor Oil Filter
Clean the area around the manifold block and the filter to prevent
contamination (Figure 12).
Figure 12 Compressor oil filter
Remove the oil filter by turning it counter-clockwise.
Check the filter to ensure that the threaded nipple did not
unscrew the filter. If the nipple is in the filter, remove it
carefully to avoid thread damage. Clean any oil from the
threads and coat the threads shorter threaded end that goes
into the manifold block with a small amount of Loctite 242
(blue) and install the nipple back into the manifold block
(Figure 13).

Ensure the new filter is a VMAC filter, P/N: 9200039. This oil
filter is a high-pressure oil filter, not an automotive oil filter,
which will rupture under high pressure.
Check the gasket-sealing surface of the manifold block for
contamination, old gasket material or damage (Figure 14).
Apply a thin coating of compressor oil to the filter-sealing gasket and fill
the filter with VMAC compressor oil (Figure 14).
Spin the filter onto the threaded nipple until the gasket contacts the
sealing surface of the manifold block, then tighten the filter an additional
3/4 to 1 turn to seat the sealing gasket.

To prevent damage to the seal or filter, never over-tighten the
filter.
Changing the Compressor Air Filter
Air Vantage 600/650/700/800 with Cummins and Deutz
Engines.
The air filter is located on the top of the machine. This system is equipped
with a ‘filter minder’ that indicates the air filter condition. It should be checked
on a regular basis to ensure proper performance. Never attempt to clean the
air filter element with compressed air, it will allow contaminants into the
compressor system. Always replace the air filter element when indicated.

1000 Hour Service Procedures
Confirm that the system is depressurized prior to
performing any service work.
Do not use flammable solvents to clean any components. If
a flammable solvent has been used, rinse the component
thoroughly with water and dry it before reinstalling it to
prevent the possibility of explosion.
Do not use compressed air or perform any other tasks
around the filter and cover until both are replaced. Never

allow some contaminates into the compressor system.
Always replace the air filter element.
General Service
Follow the procedures for the 500-hour service instructions for replacing the
air filter, draining the oil and replacing the oil filter.
2. Changing the Coalescing Separator Element
If the system has been operating, turn off the compressor and engine, and
wait for at least 1 minute to allow the system to depressurize before
performing service.
Clean the area around the manifold block and the filter to prevent
contamination (Figure 16).
Using a suitable filter wrench, remove the filter by turning it counter-
clockwise. On some applications, it may be necessary to unbolt the
manifold assembly to give sufficient clearance to remove the filter
(Figure 16).
Do not use a screwdriver punched into the side of the
coalescing filter, this can damage the scavenging tube and
screen (Figure 16).
Use caution when removing the filter, to avoid catching the
scavenge screen orifice, (which is part of the bottom fitting of
the scavenge tube) on the lip of the coalescing filter. The
scavenge screen orifice is attached to the scavenge tube by a
“push to connect” fitting. If the fitting has detached from the
tube, re-insert the tube into the fitting, ensuring that the tube
is fully engaged (Figure 16).
Ensure the new filter is a VMAC filter, P/N: 3600079. This is a
high-pressure filter. Use of other filters not rated to the
required pressure may cause the filter to rupture.
