Thank you for buying the TrekStor i.Beat swap. We are confident that this product will be

the source of much enjoyment. Please read the following chapters carefully so that you

can become acquainted with the features of this product and its use.

At the time of printing, your MP3 player supports the following music file formats: MP3,

WMA and WAV.

Please charge your MP3 player as described in these operating instructions for at least

3 to 4 hours before initial use.

Use only the provided cover release pin for changing the cover!

In order to avoid damaging your MP3 player, make sure that you insert the cover release

pin carefully into the hole and that you don't push it too deep into the housing.

3) Connecting the TrekStor i.Beat swap to a computer

Use the included USB cable to connect your MP3 player to a USB port on your computer.

Windows® 2000/XP/Vista™/7

Your operating system automatically detects the MP3 player and adds a

Mac® OS X from 10.3

Your operating system automatically detects the MP3 player and adds a "dr i V e " to "de s k t o p ".

4) Charging the TrekStor i.Beat swap

The MP3 player starts charging automatically as soon as you connect it to a computer.

The battery is charged after a maximum of three to four hours; charging stops

automatically to prevent overcharging.

The maximum operating time of the MP3 player can be reached only after approximately

10 battery charging cycles have been completed.

5) Exchanging data with the TrekStor i.Beat swap

Windows® 2000/XP/Vista™/7

a) Select the desired files (such as MP3) with the mouse. Copy these files by clicking

them with your right mouse button ("Co p y ").

b) Under "M

y Co M p u t e r " or "Co M p u t e r ", select the device with removable storage named

"i.be A t s W A p ".

c) Right-click the device and select "p

A s t e " to start copying. After copying has

completed, the data will be available on your MP3 player.

Mac® OS X from 10.3

Select the desired files (such as MP3) with the mouse. Drag and drop the files in the

"fi N d e r " to the drive symbol of your MP3 player.

6) Logging off and disconnecting the TrekStor i.Beat swap from the

computer

Please follow the recommended logout procedure to prevent damage to the device or

data loss!

Windows® 2000/XP/Vista™/7

At the bottom right on the task bar, left-click the "sA f e l y re M o V e hA r d W A r e " icon. In the

popup menu that appears, left-click "sA f e l y re M o V e MA s s st o r A g e de V i C e - dr i V e " to select it.

You can now disconnect your MP3 player from the computer.

Mac® OS X from 10.3

You must remove the drive from the "de s k t o p " before you disconnect your MP3 player.

Click the relevant drive icon and drag it to the trash icon.

7) Using the TrekStor i.Beat swap

i

Your MP3 player can generate high volumes; for this reason, make sure that the volume is

not too high while you are listening to it. Further information on this topic can be found at

the end of these operating instructions.

Turning the device on and off

First move the w switch to the "oN" position. The MP3 player is now in standby

mode. To turn on the MP3 player, hold down the A button for approximately 2 seconds

until the welcome screen appears.

To put the MP3 player in standby mode again, hold down the

A button for

approximately 2 seconds.

When the standby mode is activated, your MP3 player automatically saves the playback

position. The next time the player is switched on, playback will continue from this position.

After you have put the MP3 player in standby mode, you can shut it off completely by

moving the

w switch to the "off" position.

Adjusting the volume

Briefly press the , or ; button to raise or lower the volume.

Operation in the main and submenus

Operation in the main menu

Your MP3 player has different modes that you can select in the main menu. After the MP3

player has been switched on, the main menu appears. At the top of the main menu, you

will find a bar that displays the selectable modes. Briefly press the

E or F button to

select the desired mode, and confirm your selection by briefly pressing the A button.

To call the main menu from a mode, hold the

i button for approximately 1 second.

Operation in the submenus

In the "M

u s i C ", "Vi d e o ", and "re C o r d " modes, a submenu through which you can

make additional settings is available. To call the submenu of a mode, briefly press

the i button.

You can switch between the available settings by briefly pressing the

, or ; button.

To confirm a setting, briefly press the A button. To switch to a higher menu level or to

leave the submenu, briefly press the i button.

7.1) Mode: Music

Switch to the "Mu s i C " mode.

Music playback mode

In the music playback mode, the following basic functions are available to you:

• Playback: Briefly press the

A button to play an audio file.

i

If lyrics for the current song (file format: *.lrc) are stored on the MP3 player, they will

be displayed while the track is being played. The lyrics file must have the same name

as the track (e.g. track.mp3 and track.lrc).

• Pause: Briefly press the

A button to stop the playback. Press the A button again

to continue the playback.

• Change track: Briefly press the

F or E button to play the next or previous track.

• Rewind/fast-forward within a track: You can navigate back and forth within the

current track by holding down the

E or F button.

• Repeating a time segment within a track: If you wish to repeat a time segment

within a track, hold down the

, button for about 1 second while the track is playing

to specify the beginning of the section to be repeated. To specify the end time of the

repeated segment, hold down the , button again for about 1 second. This time

segment will now be repeated until you cancel the repetition of the time segment by

holding down the , again.

• Calling the submenu for the Music mode: Briefly press the

i button to activate

the submenu.

Folder navigation

Via the folder navigation ("f

o l d e r N AV i gA ti oN "), you can select a track for playback from a list

by briefly pressing the , or ; button. To switch to a folder or playback a selected track,

briefly press the A button. To switch to a higher level in the folder structure, briefly press

the i button.

Adding files to the playlist•

Briefly press the

, or ; button to select the file you want to add to the playlist

and briefly press the F button. From the submenu, select the "Ad d t o l i s t " option

to add the file to the playlist.

Deleting a file•

Briefly press the

, or ; button to select the file you want to delete and briefly

press the F button. From the submenu, select the "de l e t e f i l e " option and confirm

the security prompt with "ye s " to delete the file from the MP3 player.

Deleting folders•

Briefly press the

, or ; button to select the folder you want to delete and briefly

press the F button. Now confirm the security prompt with "ye s " to delete the

selected folder from the MP3 player.

Music library

i

At the first activation of the music library and after you have copied tracks to your

MP3 player, the music library must be updated. Confirm the prompt ("up d A t e ") with "Ye S "

to start this procedure. Updating the music library can take some time.

i

When you select tracks using the music library, please note that the repeat settings have

a somewhat different effect than when tracks are selected using the folder navigation.

The tracks contained in the "M

u s i C l i b r A r y " are sorted according to different criteria by

means of the ID3 tags of the music files. The following criteria are available: genre, artist,

album, and track.

i

In the music library, only those files that match the currently selected criterion are displayed.

i

If a track does not have ID3 tag information, the track is displayed together with its file

name and the criteria are listed as "un k n o w n " in the music library.

If, for example, you select "A

r t i s t ", the artists whose tracks you have transferred to

the player are displayed. Select an artist and confirm your selection by pressing the

A button. All the artist's albums on the MP3 player are then shown.

Select a specific album and press the

A button to show all the tracks on the album.

To play a specific track select it and then press the A button.

Repeat settings

i

If you select a track from the music library, the playback order is also influenced by the

selected criterion (e.g. "Ge n r e ").

If, for example, you use the "G

e n r e " criterion to select a track (e.g. from the Pop) genre and

select the "re p e A t A l l " repeat settings, all tracks of the same genre (in this example: Pop) are

then played back one after the other on repeat. If, in this example, the "fo l d e r S h u f f l e " repeat

setting is selected, the tracks of the Pop genre located in the same album as the current

track are played in random order.

• Normal: Select the "N

o r M A l " menu item to play all tracks once.

• Repeat one: Select the "r

e p e A t o N e " menu item to have the current track repeated

in a loop.

• Repeat all: Select the "r

e p e A t A l l " menu item to have all the tracks played in

sequence repeatedly.

• Shuffle all: Select the "s

h u f f l e A l l " menu item to play all the tracks in random

order repeatedly.

• Folder once: Select the menu item "f

o l d e r o N C e " to play all tracks of the selected

folder once.

• Folder repeat: Select the "f

o l d e r r e p e A t " menu item to repeatedly play all tracks of

the selected folder one after the other.

• Folder shuffle: Select the "f

o l d e r s h u f f l e " menu item to play the tracks of a folder

in random order repeatedly.

Changing the equalizer

Under the "e

q u A l i z e r " menu item, you can select one of 6 preset equalizers or a

user-defined equalizer.

If the the user-defined equalizer "u

s e r eq" is selected, you can configure the equalizer

as desired using the , or ; button. To switch between the controllers, briefly press

the E or F button. By briefly pressing the A button, you can confirm the settings.

Activating the 3D sound

A surround sound is emulated by selecting the "3d

s o u N d " option. The option can

be selected independently of the selected equalizer.

Play speed

Under the "p

l A y s p e e d " menu item, you can increase or decrease the play speed.

The standard play speed is preset to "No r M A l " (1.00 x).

The play speed can be set for music files of the file types *.wav and *.mp3.

Playlist

Under the "p

l A y l i s t " menu item, you can select tracks to be played from the playlist.

7.2) Mode: Video

Switch to the "Vi d e o " mode.

In the video playback mode, the following basic functions are available to you:

You can watch movie files (file extension *.mtv) in Video mode. To create movie files

in MTV format, please use the "V

i d e o Co N V e r t e r " on the accompanying CD.

The functions in this mode are like the ones in "M

u s i C " mode.

In the submenu that can be called by briefly pressing the

i button, you can change

the repeat settings and set the color of the displayed texts.

7.3) Mode: Pictures

Switch to the "pi C t u r e s " mode.

Select a folder or picture by briefly pressing the

, or ; button. To open the folder or

picture, briefly press the A button.

Manual switching: To switch to the previous or next picture in the full-picture display,

briefly press the

E or F button.

Slide show: To start a slide show, briefly press the

A button. To pause a slide show,

briefly press the A button again.

7.4) Mode: Text

Switch to the "te x t " mode.

You can view text files (file extension *.txt) in this mode. In the folder navigation,

select a text file and press the

A button to show the text.

You have the following alternatives to navigate in the text:

• Page-by-page reading of text pages:

Manually

+ Briefly press the E or F button.

Automatic scrolling

+ Briefly press the A button.

• Line-by-line scrolling: Briefly press the

, or ; button to scroll forward and

backward in the text line by line.

7.5) Mode: Record

Switch to the "re C o r d " mode.

Voice recordings can be made and played back using the Record mode.

Making a recording: To start a recording, hold down the

; button for about 1 second.

Briefly press the A button to pause the current recording. To continue with the current

recording, briefly press the A button again. Briefly press the i button to stop and

save the recording.

Playback of a voice recording: A voice recording can be selected directly using the

playback mode or the folder navigation:

Voice recordings can be played only in Record mode.

• Playback mode: By briefly pressing the

A button, you can start the playback of

a recording. To switch between the recordings, briefly press the E or F button.

Via the submenu, you can call the folder navigation and select a recorded file.

• Folder navigation: Open the submenu by briefly pressing the

i button and

selecting the "fo l d e r N AV ig A ti oN " menu item. Now you can select the desired recording

for playback.

Playback settings: By means of the submenu, you can make settings for the playback mode,

equalizer, 3D sound, and play speed in the same manner as for the music playback mode.

7.6) Mode: Settings

Switch to the "se t t i N g s " mode. Here you can make various general settings for your MP3 player.

Under "s

e t t i N g s ," select the menu item for which you want to make settings. Briefly press

the , or ; button to select the desired setting, and confirm by briefly pressing the

A button. By pressing the i button, you can switch back to a higher menu level or

leave the current menu item.

Time settings ("Timer")•

Sleep timer: Under the "s

l e e p t i M e r " menu item, you can set how long it takes until

the MP3 player is automatically shut down.

If the "Al w A Y S o n " setting is selected, the sleep timer is deactivated.

Power management: Under the "p

o W e r M A N A g e M e N t " menu item, you can set whether

the MP3 player should shut off automatically after 3 minutes ("oN") if no playback

takes place and no buttons are pressed. If the "of f " setting is selected, the MP3 player

must be shut off manually.

The selected setting remains stored even after the MP3 player is switched off.

Changing the language ("Language")•

Under the menu item "l

A N g u A g e ", you can select the menu language of the MP3 player.

Display setting ("Display")•

Backlight time: Under the menu item "b

A C k l i g h t t i M e ", you can set the length of time

until the backlighting automatically switches off.

Recording settings ("Record")•

Recording quality: Under the "r

e C o r d q u A l i t y " menu item, you can set the quality

of the recordings made with the microphone.

Pause detection: Here you can set whether voice pauses should be automatically

recognized during voice recordings and whether the recording should be paused

during these times.

Auto gain: Under the "A

u t o g A i N " menu item, you can adjust the recording input gain

of the integrated microphone.

System settings ("System")•

Deleting files: Under the "d

e l e t e f i l e s " menu item, you can select files or folders

for deletion via the folder navigation. Briefly press the F button and confirm the

security prompt with "ye s " to delete the file. The folder navigation contains all files

and folders saved on the MP3 player.

Formatting the MP3 player:

a

ALL the data on the MP3 player will be deleted when you format it.

If you want to format the memory (that is, delete all the files on your MP3 player),

select this menu item and confirm the following security prompt. You have two

possibilities of formatting your MP3 player: quick formatting ("q

u i C k ") and complete

formatting ("Co M p l e t e "). In the case of the quick formatting the file allocation table

(FAT) of the MP3 player is cleared. In the case of complete formatting, the memory is

first checked for defective areas. After that, the file allocation table is also cleared.

Alternatively, you can format your MP3 player using your computer. To do so,

read the corresponding section in these operating instructions.

Loading default settings: Under the "l

o A d d e f A u l t s " menu item, you can restore the

default settings (settings upon delivery) of the MP3 player. The files saved on your

MP3 player will remain during the restoration of the default settings. To load the

default settings, confirm the security prompt with "ye s ".

System information: Under the menu item "s

y s t e M i N f o ", you are provided with

information on the firmware version, as well as the entire memory and free memory

of the MP3 player.

Updating the internal database: Under the "up d A t e " menu item, you can update

the music library after you have copied new tracks to the MP3 player. Confirm the

prompt ("up d A t e ") with "ye s " to start this procedure. Updating the music library can

take some time.

File sorting: After you have copied new files to the MP3 player, you can start the

alphabetic sorting manually using the "r

e b u i l d s o r t " menu item. If you want to sort all

files automatically when you switch on the MP3 player, select the "Au t o s o r t " menu

item. Please note that the activation of the automatic sorting leads to longer startup

times of the MP3 player.

8) Converting video files

With your MP3 player, you can play video files in MTV video format that were converted

with the "Vi d e o Co N V e r t e r " program beforehand.

"vi d e o co n v e r t e r " can only be installed on a PC with a Windows® operating system.

i

"vi d e o co n v e r t e r " uses the DirectShow codecs installed on your PC. If a video file cannot be

converted, no appropriate DirectShow codec is installed on your PC.

a) Insert the provided CD into your CD/DVD drive. When the autostart function of your

system is activated, a menu showing all the contents of the CD will open.

If the autostart function of your system is deactivated, you can access the

CD/DVD drive via "mY co m p u t e r "/"co m p u t e r " and start the program "m e n u .e x e "

in the main directory of the CD.

b) Then select the "V

i d e o Co N V e r t e r " item.

c) The "V

i d e o Co N V e r t e r " will then be installed on your computer.

d) Start the "V

i d e o Co N V e r t e r " under "st A r t " + "pr o g r A M s " + "tr e k st o r i.be A t s W A p "

+ "Vi d e o Co N V e r t e r ".

e) Click the "s

o u r C e fi l e " button and select the file to be converted

(e.g. with a file format of MPG or AVI).

f) Click the "t

A r g e t d i r e C t o r y " button and specify the output folder for the converted

video file.

g) After that, you can select additional settings for conversion under "e

x p A N d e d s e t t i N g s ",

for example, the "ou t p u t V i d e o q u A l i t y " and the "ou t p u t V i d e o r A t i o " of the output file.

In the case of the "ou t p u t V i d e o r e s o l u t i o N ", 160 x 128 pixels must be selected.

h) Click the "ok" button to save the settings.

i) Start the conversion via the "s

t A r t C o N V e r s i o N " button.

j) Then copy the created *.mtv file to your MP3 player.

9) Firmware update for the TrekStor i.Beat swap

The Firmware is the program responsible for the control of your MP3 player. A firmware

update serves to transfer firmware upgrades to your MP3 player. If you should encounter

any problems with your MP3 player, please make sure that you have the latest firmware

version installed on your MP3 player.

A firmware update is possible only under Windows® and not under Linux® and Mac® OS X.

You can update the i.Beat swap with the most current firmware from the Internet. This can

be found on the TrekStor website www.trekstor.de under "d

o W N l o A d s ". Please make sure

that you follow the instructions supplied with the firmware update exactly.

10) Formatting the TrekStor i.Beat swap

ALL the data on the MP3 player will be deleted when you format it.

Windows® 2000/XP/Vista™/7

a) Connect your MP3 player to a USB port on your computer.

b) Back up all the important files on your MP3 player onto your computer.

c) Open "M

y Co M p u t e r ," or "Co M p u t e r " and right-click your MP3 player

("de V i C e W i t h re M o V A b l e st o r A g e ").

d) Select "f

o r M A t ..." from the popup menu.

e) Select the "fAt32" option under "f

t A r t " button to start the formatting.

g) Please wait until formatting has completed.

a) Connect your MP3 player to a USB port on your computer.

11) FAQ - troubleshooting

This section contains information on eliminating problems with your MP3 player.

My MP3 player cannot be turned on.

i

No power

When the battery is dead, charge your MP3 player either with a USB cable connected

to your PC, or with a USB charger.

i

External effects

External effects (such as an electrostatic discharge) can cause your MP3 player to malfunction.

If the malfunction continues after you turn your MP3 player off and on, reset the player or

update the firmware (the software of the MP3 player). You can find the procedure for this

in the operating instructions. The current firmware for your MP3 player is on our website

under "Downloads". If you have any questions concerning the firmware update that were

not answered in the instructions, please contact our support team.

My MP3 player freezes.

If this repeatedly occurs for a specific audio file, the file may be damaged. Delete the file.

If this does not eliminate the problem, reset the player if possible. If your MP3 players still

freezes, update the firmware.

I do not hear any music from the earphones/headphones.

Check if an audio file is being played (the display of the elapsed or remaining time •

is changing). If not, start playback.

Make sure that the stereo jack of the earphones/headphones is firmly seated in •

the jack socket.

Check if the volume of your MP3 player is loud enough.•

I transferred files to my MP3 player. The MP3 player cannot play these files.

Wrong file format

The files might be in a format that your MP3 player cannot play. The file formats supported

by your MP3 player can be found on the respective datasheet on the TrekStor homepage

at www.trekstor.de.

I transferred WMA audio files to my MP3 player. The MP3 player cannot play

these files.

i

The files are copyprotected.

If the files are WMA DRM copy-protected, you need to copy them through the Windows

Media® player. Check beforehand if your MP3 player can play WMA DRM copy-protected

files. You can find this information on the datasheet of your MP3 player on the TrekStor

homepage at www.trekstor.de.

I transferred audio files to my MP3 player from my Mac®. The MP3 player cannot

play these files.

i

Wrong file format

Audio files in AAC format, for example, files that you generate with iTunes®, cannot be

played on most MP3 players. Convert these files into MP3 format using a current iTunes®

program or a different program. Audio files downloaded from the Internet may have

protective mechanisms that prevent conversion.

The audio files on my MP3 player are not played in the correct sequence.

Sort your audio files in a subfolder before you copy them, and copy this folder to your

MP3 player. In addition, you can sort your audio files by renaming them (by adding

numbers such as "001_Title", "002_Title", etc.).

The playback mode "Shuffle" has been selected.

If the playback mode "Shuffle" has been selected, switch to the "Normal" playback mode.

Odd characters appear on the display when I play music.

i

The character set is not supported.

Some MP3 players cannot correctly display all characters. Only use the standard character

set of the menu language selected on the MP3 player when writing file names and ID3 tags,

and do not use special characters (such as accents, etc.).

I cannot understand the menu language and do not know how to change it.

i

The menu language was incorrectly set.

Reset the player or, if this is not possible or does not work, update the firmware.

Then the language selection menu usually appears.

How can I create MP3 files?

To convert audio files (such as music from a CD) into the MP3 format, you need an MP3

encoder (such as the presently free "Audiograbber" program that can be obtained from

www.audiograbber.de). Instructions and assistance for operating the program can be

found under the help function of the program.

I can't copy any files onto my MP3 player even though it has free memory.

Old file system (such as FAT16)

Since FAT16 creates two entries when the file names are long, the main directory can

be full even though there is free space on the MP3 player. Copy the files to a subfolder,

or format your MP3 player with FAT32 if possible. If you are unsure if your MP3 player

supports FAT32, please contact our support service.

The capacity indicated by your operating system can be different than the actual capacity of

your device. Like most manufacturers of computer hardware, TrekStor uses the prefixes for units

(e.g. 1 GB = 1.000.000.000 bytes) as prescribed by the International System of Units (SI). Unfortunately,

many operating systems do not comply with this norm and display a lower capacity because they

base their calculations on the assumption that 1 GB = 2 bytes = 1.073.741.824 bytes.

In certain circumstances, exposing the device to an electrostatic discharge may interrupt the data

transfer between the device and the computer and impair the functions of the device. If this occurs,

the device should be unplugged from the USB port and then plugged in again.

headphones with a lower impedance can damage the MP3/movie player or earphone/headphone, especially

MP3/movie players with two earphone jacks.

Note: This device can produce high sound volumes. In order to avoid hearing loss that can occur immediately, •

in the future, or gradually, you should not listen at high volumes for extended periods. This applies regardless of

whether you listen with speakers, headphones, or earphones. If you notice a ringing noise in your ears, lower the

volume immediately or stop using the MP3/movie player. Please keep in mind that permanent hearing loss can
