Danger
... a possible danger that can result in severe personal injury or damage
to property if the stated measures are not observed.
Caution
... a possible danger that can result in damage to property if the speci-
ed measures are not observed.
Operating notes

... a useful function or tip.
Danger "explosive deagration"
Firelighters such as petrol, spirits and other similar re accelerants are very dangerous for
igniting the fuel (charcoal or barbecue briquettes), as they burn in an explosive manner when
ignited. This is particularly true if such accelerants are sprayed or poured onto hot fuel, as this
can cause a ashback in the fuel container.
If hot charcoal or briquettes are extinguished with water, it creates an explosive deagration
as the water evaporates instantly.
Possible consequences:
Severe personal injury or damage to property
Safety measures:
Only use the barbecue outdoors and ensure that the area is well-ventilated.
Only ignite the fuel (charcoal or barbecue briquettes) by using an approved relighter
(EN 1860-3).
Do not lean over the barbecue when igniting the fuel.
Never use water to extinguish hot charcoal or briquettes.
6
LANDMANN
Danger "burns and re"
During operation some parts of the barbecue can become very hot, particularly those close to the
re bowl and the lid. If a gust of wind enters the re bowl, it can cause ying sparks and/or the
formation of ames.
Possible consequences:
Severe burns from touching hot parts.
Fire or smouldering re if ammable materials or substances are near the barbecue.
Safety measures prior to using the barbecue:
When setting up the barbecue, make sure that
there are not, and will not be, any ammable materials or substances nearby. The minimum
distance to ammable materials or substances is 5 m and the minimum distance to ame-
resistant materials or substances, e.g. house walls, is at least 1 m.
the barbecue is protected from the wind.
the barbecue is positioned rmly on a suciently large surface area. It must not be moved
during operation.
Safety measures while barbecueing:
Wear protective barbecue gloves.
Never leave the barbecue unattended. Take particular care to ensure that children and pets are
kept away from the barbecue.
Safety measures after using the barbecue:
Close the ventilation slots under the re bowl so that less oxygen is supplied to the embers.
Place the lid on the re bowl so that the embers are covered.
Open the vents in the lid so that the heat can escape.
Monitor the barbecue until it has cooled down. Only then should you clean it.
Danger "carbon monoxide poisoning"
Carbon monoxide is produced through the incomplete combustion of carbonaceous material such as
charcoal or briquettes. Lack of air circulation increases the concentration of the toxic gas. Open win-
dows or doors do not oer any security. As the combustion gases are not extracted directly via ue
systems when using charcoal barbecues indoors, there is a risk of severe poisoning because the gas
spreads silently throughout the room. Carbon monoxide is odourless, colourless and non-irritating.
Therefore, it does not trigger any warning eect in humans. The gas is lighter than air and it can
accumulate easily in the surrounding environment through oxygen displacement. It is absorbed via
the lungs swiftly and silently.
Possible consequences:
Death or severe personal injury as a result of carbon-monoxide poisoning.
Safety measures:
Only use the barbecue outdoors and ensure that the area is well-ventilated.

Assembly
Before starting
Here are a few tips to help you assemble your barbecue quickly and successfully:
Check that no parts are missing by placing all of the individual parts on an empty surface (we reserve the right to make
minor technical alterations, such as the content of the small parts bag).
If, despite careful factory checks, a component is missing, please contact our customer service department (see the last
page). We will immediately attend to your request.
Sort out the small parts, as some of the screws and bolts, for example, are very similar and can be easily confused.
To assemble the barbecue you only need a medium-size screwdriver and a common at spanner set.
Only use tools that are intact and suitable for the job at hand. Worn or unsuitable tools will not allow you to tighten the
bolts suciently, but will damage them to the extent that they can no longer be turned.
Always t all connecting elements (screws, bolts, nuts, etc.) as shown in the following illustrations. If you misplace a
connecting element, replace this with an appropriate part. Only by doing this can you ensure that the construction is
strong and safe.
It is essential that you follow the instructions in the order they are specied!
Even if you are not experienced at DIY, assembly does not generally take more than one hour.

Please make sure you read and observe the sa-
fety instructions on pages 5 and 6!
Only use approved barbecue lighters (such as
Landmann solid relighters); never use petrol,
spirits or other substances that are subject to
deagration when ignited.
Only use charcoal or barbecue briquettes as the
fuel. We recommend using quality products
from Landmann.
1. Check to ensure that ....
there are not, and will not be, any ammable
materials or substances nearby. The minimum
distance to ammable materials or substances is
5 m and the minimum distance to ame-resistant
materials or substances, e.g. house walls, is at
least 1 m.
the barbecue is protected from the wind.
the barbecue is positioned rmly on a suciently
large surface area. It must not be moved during
operation.
the barbecue is fully assembled and has no ap-
parent faults.
2. Stack some charcoal or barbecue briquettes on the
charcoal grid.
3. Light one or two solid relighters using a match. Place
these relighters on top of the layer of charcoal or
briquettes.
4. Allow the solid relighters to burn for 2 to 4 minutes.
Then slowly ll the re bowl with charcoal or briquet-
tes.
The rst time you use the barbecue allow it to
heat up for approximately 20 minutes before adding
any food (with the lid closed); doing this will allow the
food-safe coating to harden (as is the case with any
oven).
5. When the charcoal or briquettes are completely cove-
red with a layer of ash, distribute them evenly in the
re bowl by using a suitable metal utensil (e.g. re
rake).
6. Now insert the greased OptiHeat cooking grill and
place the food to be cooked on top. We recommend
that you wear barbecue gloves or other suitable gloves
for protection from the heat.
Switching o the barbecue
Plan ahead before barbecuing. Only use the fuel you
need to prepare your food.
If you have nished preparing your food or want to
temporarily interrupt the preparation process:
Close the ventilation slots under the re bowl so that
less oxygen is supplied to the embers.
Place the lid on the re bowl so that the embers
are covered.
Open the vents in the lid so that the heat can es-
cape.
Do not leave the barbecue unattended whi-
le the fuel is still hot.
Never pour water onto the hot embers, as it
will cause the water to evaporate in an ex-
plosive manner.
Never dispose of hot embers. Leave them in
the barbecue until they have cooled down.
Cleaning
WARNING: Risk of burning when
cleaning the hot barbecue
To ensure that your barbecue serves you well for many
years to come, it should be cleaned after each use with
washing-up liquid, a brush and a cloth - after all parts have
cooled down. This is much easier than cleaning it at a later
stage when the dirt has dried.
Environmental information and dispo-
sal measures
Pay attention to cleanliness when handling the barbecue.
To dispose of the barbecue properly, disassemble it into its
individual parts. Recycle the metal and plastic componen-
ts.
Observe the local regulations.

Barbecue tips
Direct grilling
This is the best-known and most frequently-used method.
"Direct grilling" means cooking the food directly over the
heat source (charcoal embers, gas burner, electric heating
element, etc.). The eect of thermal radiation on the food
being cooked is the strongest in this traditional method
and it ensures a rapid cooking time (quick grill).
Kettle grills and hooded barbecues have a hooded cover
as well as air vents in the hood and re bowl. The cooking
time can be further reduced by closing the lid and opening
the air vents; when doing this it simultaneously intensies
the charcoal aroma. It should also be noted that during un-
protected, direct grilling there is always a possibility that
fat or marinade may drip from the food on the grill and into
the heat source where it can burn.
When cooking very fatty or marinated foods, we recom-
mend using an aluminium grill tray or, even better, an
enamelled steel tray.
Indirect grilling
To prepare the re bowl for indirect grilling, so-called char-
coal dividers (wire mesh dividers) are placed on the char-
coal grid. Doing this divides the re bowl into three zones:
Zones 1 and 3 are the intermediate spaces between the coal
dividers and the side panel of the fuel container.
Zone 2 is the space between the coal dividers. This space
should remain clear. If necessary, a drip bowl or a plate can
be placed here to collect the dripping fat. Zones 1 and 3 are
lled with fuel and ignited in accordance with the lighting
instructions. As soon as the optimum heat has been rea-
ched you can start using the indirect grilling method.
The grill above the embers is usually constructed in such
a way that there is enough space above Zones 1 and 3 for
direct grilling, thereby allowing both variations to be used
simultaneously. A lid is always necessary for the slow and
gentle indirect grilling method. This is used to cover the re
bowl and thus create an enclosed cooking space.
The air vents located on the base of the re bowl and on top
of the lid must be opened when using the indirect grilling
method to allow a supply of oxygen. Doing this makes the
cooking area function like a fan oven. The cooking time re-
quired for indirect grilling is naturally much longer than the
time for direct grilling. However, the hood does not need to
be opened frequently to turn the food, as the food is heated
from all directions.
