1. Introduction
The On-Q Home 8-Port Ethernet Switch (see Figure 1) comes
with eight independent 10/100Mbps ports. Each port can
transmit at speeds up to 200Mbps in full duplex mode. The
switch also features N-Way (auto-negotiation), which
automatically adjusts each port’s speed for optimal operation and
“Store-and-Forward” architecture filters to eliminate error
packets and improve efficiency. Plus, MDI/MDIX auto
crossover technology on each port allows connection to another
switch, hub or router using either a straight through or crossover
Ethernet cable. Data forwarding and filtering rates of 10Mbps
and 100Mbps per port are supported. The switch is powered by
a 12VDC power supply (included).
2. Description
The On-Q Home 8-Port Ethernet Switch (see Figure 2) has a
power LED which lights green to indicate power is supplied, and
two LEDs per port. The “100” LED lights orange to indicate
that port is running at 100Mbps. If it is off, it indicates that port
is running at 10Mbps. The “LNK/ACT” LED lights green to
indicate a connection to an active Ethernet device, and blinks
green when transmitting or receiving data. The switch complies
with IEEE 802.3/3u standards for 10Base-T/TX Ethernet/Fast
Ethernet. The power supply provides 12VDC at .5Amps. The
switch will operate properly in 10-90% humidity and at a
temperature of 0-50 degrees C. It is a half-width module, that
occupies 3.25” of vertical half-width enclosure space.
3. Installation
A. Position the 8 Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch module in the enclosure, planning for wire management and location of
additional modules (see Figure 3).
B. Align two stationary tabs on the module with slots on the back of the enclosure.
C. Insert tabs by angling module away from the back of the enclosure and sliding forward.
D. Rotate the module and insert the built in locking tab on the module into the corresponding hole on the back of the
enclosure, pushing in until it snaps into place.
E. Pull lightly on the module to assure it is properly locked in place.
F. Plug the DC power supply into an appropriate AC outlet inside the Enclosure.
G. Verify that the Power LED is illuminated. If it isn’t illuminated, then check the connections, power supply and 110
VAC source. If still not illuminated, contact On-Q Home Technical Support at 1-800-321-2343.
H. The On-Q Home 8 Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch is considered a “plug and play” network device and requires no special
setup. Since the switch employs auto-crossover technology, Ethernet cables that are “straight-through” or “crossover”
design will work for all applications
.
I. As each active device is plugged into a switch port, verify that the “LNK/ACT” LED is illuminated for that port. The
“100” LED may also be lit if the device attached to the port is running at 100Mbps. If the “LNK/ACT” LED does not
light for an active device, check its Ethernet cable or the device itself.

4. FCC Certifications
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the
FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential
installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio or TV communications. If this equipment does
cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the On-Q Home 8 Port
Switch off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
A. Reorient or relocate the affected receiving radio or TV antenna.
B. Increase the separation between the Switch and affected device.
C. Connect the Switch into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the affected equipment is connected.
D. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
Shielded interface cables must be used in order to comply with emission limits.
You are cautioned that changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void
your authority to operate the equipment.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device
may not cause harmful interference, and (2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference that
may cause undesired operation.
CE Mark Warning
