You have just become the owner of a ceramic-glass halogen heating zone hob with a touch-sensitive
control panel. You will now be able to take advantage of the four special features of halogen cooking
:
Performance
The infra-red rays provide immediate transmission of heat. The rapid rise in temperature and low
inertia time of halogen heating zones mean they are very easy to adjust.
Comfort
Halogen cooking offers the visual reassurance of gas cooking. The intensity of the light from the
lamps - just like flames - and the height of the luminous columns correspond to the amount of heat
given off.
Appearance
The electronic control panel integrated under the same glass as the heating zone gives a perfectly
smooth surface. The spacing and very different heating capacities of the heating zones and the four
timers (TSG 640) afford high user comfort.
Convenience
The temperature of the halogen lights drops as soon as the power is turned down. A residual heat
indicator shows when the temperature is still greater than 60°C, even when the heating zone is off.

Control panel
Switching on
The hob is switched on by pressing the key for 2 seconds. The indicator light to the left of the key
will go on.
Start the control panel by pressing the key for 2 seconds. The indicator light next to it goes on.
The heating zones can now be used.
Heating zone control
Each heating zone is controlled by a set of keys divided into two halves :
• a top half
• and a bottom half
To switch on a heating zone and increase the heat level, touch the top half of the key
corresponding to the heating zone of your choice. The heat output is proportional to the
length of time you keep your finger on the key, and is shown very accurately on the luminous
columns (15 levels).
To reduce heat output, touch the bottom half of the key.
To turn to maximum power, only for radiant heating zones, quickly touch the bottom half of
the key brif-ly. The column’s 15 levels light up immediately (the heating zone operates at
100%).
To switch off the heating zone, touch both halves of the key at the same time : the heat
output will immediately go down to zero, and the luminous column will go out;
or touch only the bottom half : heat output will gradually be reduced and the luminous
column will also progressively go out.
Programming a cooking time
It is possible to programme the heating zones separately or simultaneously for different durations of
up to 3 hours.
After selecting the heat level, the cooking time is programmed as follows:
press the programming key for the heating zone concerned (its indicator light flashes),
0.00 is displayed: setting is in steps of 10 seconds, from 0.00 to 9.50 (from 0 to 9.5 minutes),
then in steps of minutes from 0.10 to 3.00 (from 10 min to 3 hrs).
press the top part of the heating zone key until the required cooking time is obtained.
The figures displayed are in minutes and seconds.
save the programme setting by pressing the programming key a second time: the
corresponding light stays on: the timer countdown begins immediately up to the end of the
cooking time. The countdown is displayed in steps of one minute from 3 hrs to 10 min. and
then in seconds from 9.59 min to 0.
All of the heating zones may be programme simultaneously and for different durations: the countdown
displayed is for the heating zone with the brightest indicator.
When the cooking time has lapsed, the power to the heating zone concerned is cut off automatically,
the light column drops to 0. A beeper tells you that the cooking time is completed. If a second heating
zone was programmed, simply press the corresponding timer to display the new countdown.
45
Control panel
Locking the controls
When the hob is in use, you may lock the controls in order to avoid any accidental alteration (children,
cleaning etc.).
Simply touch the key, the indicator light at the left of the key will go off.
To change the heat level or to stop cooking, just press the key for 2 seconds : the controls can
now be activated again.
Safety devices
To protect the hob’s electronic elements, various safety devices may operate. Once the hob has been
switched on, if none of the keys is used for a period of 30 seconds, the key indicator light goes off
: the control panel switches itself off.
Flashing
Any object placed for more than 10 seconds, on the protected zone (pans, cutlery, etc... may set off
a sound signal followed by the 4 indicator lights flashing, the control panel indicator light goes off and
the heating zone or zones switch off:
• to stop the signal, remove the object,
• to stop the lights flashing, press the button for 2 seconds.
The panel indicator light lights up (the heating zone keys can be controlled again).
Overheating
Prolonged use of the hob can cause the overheating of the electronic components. In this case, an
automatic thermal safety mechanism briefly reduces the power level (to position 3) of the hotplates
on the right. When this happens, the indicator light columns flash in a “chain” pattern. When the
temperature falls to a safe level, the flashing of the lights stops, and the power remains at the reduced
level. At this time, the right-hand hotplates can be used again at a higher level if necessary.
Cleaning
Turn off the hob by pressing the key. If during cleaning you press the power on the key, turn it
off again.
46
Using the heating zones
Description of the heating zones
The hob is equipped with two types of heating zone : halogen heating zones and radiant heating
zones.
The halogen heating zones consist of one quartz circular tube which contains a tungsten filament
protected by halogen gas and a circular resistance. The heating zones produce immediate heat and
visualisation is instantaneous. We recommend them for quick cooking at high temperatures.
The radiant heating zones consist of circular elements whose filaments turn red. Visualisation is
less instantaneous than with halogen heating zones. We recommend them for slow cooking.
Both halogen and radiant heating zones are controlled by a Mijotronic regulator. They do not heat
constantly but in predetermined sequences.
Adjusting the heating zones
The luminous columns are divided into 15 levels corresponding to different power levels :
Very fast (steaks, to bring to the boil...)
Very low (melted butter, melted chocolate, etc...)
Fast (fish, pancakes, omelettes, etc...)
Medium - Simmering (potatoes, boiled beef with vegetables,
stews, vegetables, fruit, soups, rice etc...)
Low (thickening sauces, scrambled eggs, keeping dishes hot...)
Pans to use
Any cooking utensils may be used. However, we would recommend that you use flat, thick-bottomed
dishes - copper and stainless steel “sandwich” -style bases or specially prepared bases - and that to
prevent scratching of the glass surface, all recipients with rough bases should be avoided, as should
aluminium which leave a deposit on the glass, which is difficult to remove.
To maximise energy use, the diameter of your pan should be at least that of the heating zone that you
are using. It is also advisable to use a lid to accelerate the rise in temperature.
47
Maintenance
Maintenance
The ceramic glass used for the heating area is very smooth and totally non-porous; it is also resistant
to both mechanical and thermal shocks (i.e. it is insensitive to temperature changes). For it to keep all
of these properties, we advise you to look after it in the following way:
For normal maintenance, wipe the surface with a damp sponge and dry it with a soft cloth. If the
hob is dirty, rub with a cleaning fluid*, rince and wipe. When the hob is clean, you may use a liquid
cleaner : this leaves an invisible film which protects the surface should a pan boil over. Clean the hob
when it is either cold or only slightly warm.
Food stains may be removed by scraping, e.g. with a sharp blade. Do not wait for the surface to
cool down ; clean as soon as possible in order to avoid food sticking. A stainless steel wire pad
soaked in soapy water gives excellent results. Always take care to rinse the surface with clean water
and dry it well afterwards ; residue from cleaning products may form a crust when the hob is next in
use.
Precautions to take
Never use abrasives, even gentle ones. This will cause permanent scratching. We recommend that
you do not use anything which is likely to melt, such as plastic objects, sugar, or products with
a high sugar content, near to the hob. If, something melts onto the hob surface, remove immediately
by scraping with a sharp blade. This should be done while the surface is still hot, in order to avoid
spoiling the surface.
To avoid incorrect instructions, do not let any water or other liquid settle on the control panel. Do
not place hot pans on the controls.
The hob should only be used for cooking. Never leave anything (lids, saucepans, cloths) on it
when it is not being used. Do not use it as a cutting surface.
Aluminium packages, tin foil and plastic utensils must not be placed on warm or hot surfaces.
Any damage done to the surface in this way is not covered by the guarantee.
Warning
If any cracks should appear on the surface switch the hob off immediately.
Do not stare directely into the halogen lamps on the hob.

The hob fits into any worktop. Most types of worktop are suitable : certain plastics should, however,
be avoided as heating to above 100°C may misshape them. Take care to leave a space of 5 cm
between the back of the hob and the back of the worktop, so as to avoid burning the wall or the rear
panel, particularly if the latter is laminated.
Make certain that the seal around the outside edge of the hob is correctly installed in order to
avoid any leakage into the cabinetry below.
Very important
It is essential to install the hob on a totally flat surface. Any damage caused by incorrect fitting may
alter the characteristics or impair performance.
