3.- OPERATING
Once your Bennington stove has been installed and connected to the chimney, you
are ready to light the fire.
•
BE CAREFUL!:
THIS OPERATION PRODUCES HEAT. KEEP CHILDREN, CLOTHING AND
FURNITURE AT A DISTANCE. CONTACT WITH THE STOVE MAY CAUSE SKIN
BURNS.
Please read this chapter fully before lighting the stove for the first time. It explains
the controls and features of your wood burning stove, how to choose the wood, how to light
it and its daily use.
Although the operating of your stove is easy, the combustion process for solid fuels is
complex, given that various factors are involved and time and experience is required to
understand how it is done.
A.- CONTROLS AND FEATURES
Before lighting any fire, become familiar with the location and operating of the control
and parts of your stove and learn how to use them. (See Fig. 1 Page 4)
For your own safety, do not modify these parts under any circumstances.
1. DETACHABLE CONTROL ON THE FRONT DOOR:
The front door allows for
wood to be loaded into your stove. The control is detachable and, after operating with it, it
must be removed from its housing so as not to heat up while the stove is working. To open
the door, lift the control to the two o’clock position (on the clock) and pull the door. To close
the door, first fold the left door then the right, pressing and lowering the control to the four
o’clock position (on the clock). Pull on the door control slightly to ensure that the door is
well closed. Then remove the control from its housing and place it in the cold position
located to the left of the cinder tray.
2. CONTROL ON THE SIDE DOOR:
The side door allows for wood to be loaded
into your stove. The control is fixed. To open the door, turn the control to the twelve
o’clock position (on the clock) and pull the door. To close the door, place it in its vertical
closing position and press against the side, lower the control to the three o’clock position
(on the clock). Pull on the door slightly to ensure that it is well closed.
3. PRIMARY AIR CONTROL:
This control is located on the lower right hand side of
the front of the stove. The primary air control allows for the amount of air entering the
fireplace to be adjusted. Push the lever downwards to open the primary air control and
upwards to close it.
4. SECONDARY AIR SELF-ADJUSTMENT:
Secondary air is provided through the
baffle tubes and is distributed proportionally in the combustion chamber. The greater the
combustion the more heat and, as a result, greater draught and better secondary air
provision.
5. ASH PAN:
The ash pan tray is located underneath the tray. It collects the coals
from the fire and allows you to comfortably remove the ashes from your stove. The ash pan
is very easy to remove. When the stove is cold, push the ashes through the grill towards
the ash pan then turn the ash pan door control clockwise and pull to open. Remove the ash
pan by sliding it outwards carefully. After removing the ashes, push the ash pan inwards to
its position and close the ash pan door.
Do not light
the stove until the ash pan is in its position inside the stove and the
cinder door is closed. This may overheat and damage your stove.
