Understand and follow the safety instruc-
tions in the owner's manual for your lathe.
To prevent injury from a tool coming loose,
always firmly secure the tool in the holder
and extend it from the holder no more than

⁄2 times its cross section, and make sure
that the holder is firmly clamped and the
tool post nut is fully tightened before start-
ing the lathe. Check for safe clearances from
the chuck, workpiece, and other lathe parts
before starting the lathe.
