USER'S INSTRUCTIONS
Important warnings
AEG electrical machines are conform with safety aspects of technical
regulations and legislation for electrical machines. However as a manufac-
turer, we are obliged to inform you of the following safety instructions.
Before using your washing machine for the first time
Respect the “Installation and connection instructions “ given below.
If the machine is delivered during the winter when temperatures are
below zero; leave the machine at ambient temperature for 24 hours
before switching it on.
Correct usage
Your washing machine is designed for normal domestic use. The
manufacturer does not accept any responsibility for damage that
occurs if the washing machine is used for commercial or industrial
purposes or for purposes other than the purposes for which it was
designed.
For your own safety, never modify or transform this washing machine in
any way.
Use only detergents designed for the washing machine. Follow the
recommendations made by the manufacturer of these products.
Do not insert any articles containing inflammable solvents. These
instructions should also be respected for washing that has been pre-
cleaned.
Do not use the washing machine for chemical cleaning.
Do not use dyes or bleaches in the washing machine unless the
manufacturer of these products specifically authorizes their use. We do
not accept any responsibility if damage occurs.
Only use tap water. Do not use rain water or industrial water unless it
satisfies the requirements of standards DIN 1986 and DIN 1988.
The guarantee does not cover frost damage!
Consequently, unscrew the tap supply pipe and put it down on the floor.

Safety for children
Elements forming part of packaging (for example plastic films, pieces of
polystyrene) can be dangerous for children and introduce a risk of
suffocating. Keep these packaging elements out of reach of children.
Children are often unable to understand dangers of electrical appliances.
Therefore always keep an eye on children when the washing machine is in
operation, and never let children play with it.
Make sure that pets cannot get into the drum of your washing machine.
If you scrap your washing machine, take off the power supply plug, prevent
the door closing device from working, switch off the electricity power
supply and take off the remaining plugs and cables. Children will thus be
unable to get trapped in the washing machine if they play with it, and will
not be exposed to any danger.
General safety
All repairs to the washing machine must be made by qualified personnel.
Inappropriate repairs can be very dangerous. Please call our After Sales
Service or your specialized dealer for any repair work.
Never use the washing machine if the power supply cable, the control
panel, the working surface or the base are damaged so that the inside of
the washing machine is accessible
Always unplug the washing machine before cleaning and servicing it.
Furthermore, remove the plug from its base.
Always pull the plug out by pulling on the plug itself and never by pulling
the cable.
Do not use multiple power outlets or extension cords, since they could
cause overheating!
Do not clean the washing machine with a hose - risk of electrocution!
Pets can damage power supply cables and water pipes. Risk of electrocution
and water damage! Keep pets away from the washing machine.
8
Recycling
Recycle packaging!
Please retrieve the packaging materials used for your washing machine. All
packaging materials can be safely recycled and placed in a waste plant or
burned in a household waste incineration installation.
Plastics can also be reused:
The packaging cover and inner bags are made of polyethylene (identified by
the >PE< symbol).
Packing parts are composed of expanded HCFC free polystyrene (identified
by the >PS< symbol).
Cardboard is made from recycled paper and must be put into the waste paper
collection bin.
Scrapping an old washing machine:
If you want to scrap your washing machine, please take it to the closest
recycling center or to your specialized dealer. They will take it back in exchange
for a small payment.
Protection of the environment
Do not do pre-wash medium dirty washing. You will save detergent, water
and time (and also protect the environment!).
The washing machine is particularly economic if you use it to its full
capacity.
Use only one half or two thirds of the stated dose of detergent for small
quantities of washing.
Stains and minor dirt may be eliminated by an appropriate preliminary
treatment. You can then do your washing at a lower temperature.
You can often eliminate the softener. Try it some time! If you are using a
dryer, your washing will come out smooth and soft even if you do not add
a softener.
You must use a softener if your water is fairly or very hard (hardness range
II or more - see the section on “products”). The detergent may then be
proportioned for hardness range I (= soft).

Thermostat
The thermostat may be adjusted progressively to any
required temperature.
Other buttons
Other buttons have the effect of adapting wash
program depending on how dirty the washing is. No
other buttons need to be used for washing that is not
dirtier than normal.
Different functions can be combined depending on the program.
= SHORT PUSHBUTTON
This function carries out a short wash for washing that is not very dirty.
1000/600 = SPINNING SPEED REDUCTION PUSHBUTTON
You can use this button to reduce the spin speed. If you do not use it, the spin
will take place automatically at the maximum speed for whites/coloreds.
The spin speed is normally limited to 900 rpm for synthetics and delicate
washing. The spin speed is normally limited to 1000 rpm for woolens.
= STAIN PUSHBUTTON
Press on this button if you want to add stain removal salt entrained from
compartment I in the detergent dispenser, to treat very dirty or stained
washing (extended main wash with optimized entrainment of stain removal
salt while washing). Only for the whites / coloreds program without pre-wash.
= ON/OFF PUSHBUTTON
Press on the ON/OFF button when you have chosen your washing program, to
start your washing machine.

Consumption and program duration
The values given in the following table were calculated for normal operating
conditions. They provide a guide about how to operate your washing machine at
home.
1) Recommended program for comparisons based on standard IEC 60 456.
Before the first wash cycle
Carry out an empty wash program (WHITES/COLOREDS 95° program,
using half of the recommended detergent quantity).
This eliminates any deposits that may have remained in the drum or
detergent dispenser during manufacture.

Preparing your washing
Sorting and preparing your washing
Sort the washing as a function of its nature and care labels (see
“Washing types and care symbols”).
Empty the pockets.
Remove any metal objects (paper clips, safety pins, etc.)
Close all zip fasteners, button up quilt covers and pillow cases, tighten
ribbons (for example on aprons) so that your washing will not be
damaged or get tangled.
Turn lined washing (sleeping bags, anoraks, etc.) inside out.
Turn colored knits and woolens or textiles with iron-on patterns inside
out.
Place small parts and delicate parts (bootees, tights, etc.) in a washing
net or a pillow case with a zip fastener or a large sock.
Special care is necessary for net curtains. Remove metal or plastic rings,
or enclose the net curtains in a net or bag.
We cannot accept responsibility for any damage.
Do not mix coloreds and whites in the same washing cycle, since the
whites could be stained.
New coloreds often contain excess pigments. It is better to wash these
articles separately the first time.
Mix small and large pieces of washing! This improves the washing
efficiency and washing is better distributed when spinning.
Shake your washing before putting it into the washing machine.
Unfold your washing before putting it into the drum.
Respect “wash separately” or “wash separately several times”
instructions!

Washing types and care symbols
Care symbols help you to choose the right washing program. Always sort your
washing as a function of its nature and the care label.
Temperatures specified on these labels are always maximum values.
Washing to be boiled
Cotton and linen textiles marked with this care symbol are not delicate. They
resist mechanical forces and high temperatures. The WHITE/COLOREDS
program is suitable for this type of washing.
Coloreds
Cotton and linen textiles marked with this care symbol are not delicate. They
resist mechanical forces.
The WHITES/COLOREDS program is suitable for this type of washing.
Easy care washing
More gentle mechanical treatment is necessary for textiles such as treated
cotton, blended cotton based fabrics and synthetic fabrics, marked with this
symbol. The SYNTHETICS program is appropriate for this type of washing.
Delicate washing
Textiles such as layered, micro-fiber, synthetic textiles and net curtains
marked with this care symbol require particularly gentle treatment. The
DELICATE program is appropriate for this type of washing.
Woolens and particular fragile washing
Textiles such as wool, wool blends or silk marked with this label are
particularly sensitive to mechanical forces. The WOOLENS program is
suitable for this type of textile.
Woolen clothes marked with the
(wool) label are only machine washable
if the comment “non-fluffing” or “fluff resistant”, and “machine washable”
is added.
Warning ! Textiles marked with the
(do not wash) label cannot be
washed in the washing machine!

Products
Choice of detergent
Only use products designed for use in washing machines. In general,
respect manufacturer’s instructions.
Quantities
The quantity of detergent to be used depends on:
the amount of washing to be washed:
If the detergent manufacturer does not give quantities for small loads,
reduce the quantity by one third for a half load, or by one half for a
smaller load, from the recommended quantities for a full load.
how dirty your washing is:
the hardness of the water:
Please respect the usage instructions and quantities given by product
manufacturers.
Using a softener
You must use a softener if your water is medium hard to very hard (range
II or more). Respect the manufacturer’s instructions! Then always add
detergent quantities necessary for hardness range I ( =soft). The water
distribution company in your region can give you information about the
degree of hardness of your water.
Since the softener is entrained with the main product (prior water soften-
ing) you only need to use eighty percent of the softener quantity indicated
on the packaging.
