OPERATION
Starting-up - Temperature Regulation
Turn the thermostat knob clockwise to the required
setting (beyond position «O»); the recommended
setting is between 2 and 4.
Temperature is regulated automatically and can be
increased by turning the knob to lower numbers, or
decreased by turning it to higher numbers.
However the exact setting should be chosen
keeping in mind that the temperature inside the
refrigerator depends on:
room temperature;
how often the door is opened;
the quantity of food stored in the refrigerator;
location of appliance.
To stop the appliance, simply turn the thermostat
knob to position «O».
When the refrigerator is set for the coldest temperature,
with a high surrounding room temperature and a great
quantity of foods, it will probably be in constant use,
with consequent frosting on the back wall of the
compartment. If this does in fact occur, the knob should
be set to obtain a slightly higher temperature. In this
way the refrigerator automatically defrosts, with a
considerable energy saving.
Refrigeration of foods and drinks
To achieve the best results with the refrigerator
compartment, you should follow one or two very
simple rules:
Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the
refrigerator.
Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a
strong smell or contain aromatic herbs).
Place the foods so that air can circulate free
between them.
Fig. 15 shows how the foods should be positioned
inside the refrigerator compartment:
Raw meat (all types): it should be stored in plastic
bags and placed in position (c) (Fig. 15), where it can
be stored for one or two days at most.
Fruit and vegetables: they should be washed and
placed in the suitable compartments.
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a
series of runners so that the shelves can be
positioned as desired.
Fig. 12
Positioning the door shelves
To permit storage of food packages of various sizes,
the door shelves can be adjusted in height.
To make these adjustments proceed as follows:
Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the
arrows until it comes free, then reposition as
required (Fig. 13).
Fig. 13
For more thorough cleaning, the top door shelf can
be removed by pulling it in the direction of the
arrows, then refitting it in position (Fig. 14).

Freezing fresh food and storage of frozen food
The 4-star compartment ( ) is suitable for long
term storage of commercially frozen food and for
freezing fresh food.
Freezing fresh food
Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it
is not necessary to change the setting of the
thermostat knob with respect to the normal running
position.
However, for a quicker freezing operation, turn the
thermostat knob to the coldest setting, but
remember that, in this condition, the refrigerating
compartment temperature might drop below 0°C. If
this occurs reset thermostat knob to a warmer
setting.
To help you make the most of the freezing process,
here are some important hints:
Place the food to be frozen on the shelf, as this is the
coldest place.
The maximum quantity of food which can be frozen
in 24 hrs is shown on the rating plate which can be
found on the bottom left of the refrigerator.
Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly
cleaned, foodstuffs.
Remember that lean foods keep better and longer
than fatty foods. Salt too reduces storage time.
Prepare the fresh food in small portions to enable it
to be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it
possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity
required at the time.
Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene and
make sure that the packages are airtight.
It is advisable to show on the single food packet the
freezing-in date to enable you to keep tap of the
storage time.
Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food
which is already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in
temperature of the latter.
On the rear of the door you will find a list of foods
followed by a number. These numbers indicate the
maximum period of time for which the food in
question may be conserved (in months).
Do not put carbonated liquids (fizzy drinks, etc.) in the
freezing compartment as they may burst.
Water ices, if consumed immediately after removal
from the freezing compartment, can possibly cause
the skin to be freeze burnt.
Remember that, once thawed, frozen food
deteriorates rapidly.
Storage of frozen food
To obtain the best performance from this appliance,
we strongly recommend that you make sure that
the commercially frozen foodstuffs were adequately
stored by the retailer and, furthermore, be sure that
these frozen foodstuffs are transferred from the
foodstore to the consumer in the shortest possible
time.
It is also advisable not to exceed the storage period
indicated by the producer of the food.
Finally, do not open the door frequently or leave it
open longer than is absolutely necessary.
After an idle period, foods should be stored in the
appliance only after running it for at least two
hours, by setting the thermostat to the coldest
position; then, turn the knob to standard operation.
If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer, do
not open the door of the freezing compartment. Foods are
not affected if the power cut is short (6 to 8 hours) and
if the freezing compartment is full; otherwise, foods
should be used within a very short time. Once thawed,
foods deteriorate soon and cannot be frozen again.
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can
be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at
room temperature, depending on the time available
for this operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen,
directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will
take longer.
Ice-cube production
This appliance is equipped with trays for the
production of ice-cubes.
Fill these trays with drinking water, then put them
in the freezer compartment.
Do not use metallic instruments to remove the trays
from the freezer.
17
Use of the «Wine Cellar» compartment (Fig. 15)
Through a simple operation this refrigerator makes
it possible to obtain a «mild» temperature in
compartments (d-e), where an ideal «wine cellar»
temperature is reached.
As shown in Fig. 15, lower compartments (d-e) are
separated from the rest by a shelf. This shelf
features a lever (F), which controls the cold air flow
through a number of openings in the shelf itself.
By slipping it to position «5» this section can be used
as a normal refrigerator.
Slide this lever to «0» position to obtain a «wine
cellar» temperature. On positions «1» through «4»
intermediate temperatures are obtained.
Freezer
(a) This is for storing frozen food and for freezing
fresh food.
Refrigerator
(b) This is for soft cheese, blue cheese and cooked
foods.
(c) This is for storing meat, fresh fish, milk, yoghurt
(this is the coolest part of the refrigerator).

Defrosting
Frost is automatically eliminated from the
evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every
time the motor compressor stops, during normal
use. The defrost water drains out through a trough
(Fig. 16) into a special container on the back of the
appliance where it evaporates.
Fig. 16
The freezer compartment, however, will become
progressively covered with frost. This should be
removed with the special plastic scraper provided,
whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm.
During this operation it is not necessary to switch
off the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs.
Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away the
accumulated frost which might damage the appliance.
However, when the ice becomes very thick,
complete defrosting should be carried out.
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer
compartment ( ) proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set
the thermostat on the «O» position. Wrap the foods
in several sheets of newspaper and then keep them
in a cool place.
D037
Keep the freezer door open and place a basin on the
first shelf in the refrigerator directly below the
drainage hole and lift up the small lid (Fig. 17).
Fig. 17
When defrosting is completed, dry the walls
throroughly and replace the lid; turn the thermostat
knob to the desired position or replace the plug into
the socket. After letting it run for two or three
hours, the appliance is ready again for storing
frozen food.
We particularly recommed that you periodically clean the
defrost water drainage hole, located in the center
(Fig. 16) of the drainage groove in the refrigerator
compartment, to prevent the defrost water from
overflowing on to foods stored in the compartment. Use
the special cleaner provided, which you will find into the
discharge hole.
