Themaximumweightof aproperlyfilled
cylinderwillbeapproximately38 pounds(47.7

The LPcylindermust haveashut-offvalve
terminatingin a Type1 LPgascylindervalve
outlet. (Seeitem[F],Fig. 11).
A Type1compatiblecylinderwith a Type1
cylindervalvehasaback-checkvalvewhich
doesnotpermitgasflow,untilapositiveseal
hasbeenobtained.
The LPcylindermust haveaUL listedoverfill
protectiondevice(O.P.D.).

Thecylindermust bearrangedfor vapor
withdrawal. Itmustalsoincludeacollarto
protectthe cylindervalve. Asafetyrelief device
havingdirectcommunicationwiththe vapor

overfilledor overheated,conditionswhichcould
resultin fireor explosion.
All LPgascylindersusedwiththisappliance

Whenusing cylinderexchange:Ifyourgrillis
equippedwith e Type1 cylinder,besurethe
exchangedcylinderis aType1cylinder,as a
510POLcylinderwill notfit Type1regulator.
This tank iseasilyfilledwith astandard
CGA510POLfilling connection.(Fig,14)
Newcylindersmustbe purgedbeforefilling.
TellyourLPGasdealerif yourcylinderisnew
andhasnot beenpreviouslyfilled.
TheLPGascylinderhasaType1cylinder
valvewith a back-cbeckmodulein itsoutlet
whichwill not permitgasto flowuntilan
evacuationdeviceis installed.Topurgethe
LPGascylinder,the back-checkmodulemust
beopenedwith an evacuationdevice.

Purgingandfillingof LPGascylindersmustbe
performedbypersonnelwhohave been
thoroughlytrainedin acceptedLPGasindustry
procedures. Failuretofollowthis instruction
may resultin explosion,fire, severepersonal

A. Hoseend valvewitha bleedpert(Fig. 14):
Purgingcanbe accomplishedusing a hoseend
valvecontainingableedportwhichalsoallows
forevacuationwithoutthe useofan adapter.
B. Hoseend valvewithoutableedport:
Whenahoseend valvedoesnot havea bleed
port,a separatedevicemustbe usedfor
evacuation.
C. PurgingusingaType1connection(Fig. 15):
LPGascylinderevacuationcan be
accomplishedduringeachpurgingbyusinga
Type1connection.TheTypeI valveoutlethas
anexternal1 5/16"ACMErighthandthread
whichwillacceptthis connection.

Features I
The LPgascylinderprovidedwiththis grill(on
selectedmodelsonly)is fittedwith an Overfill
ProtectionDevice(O.P.D.). Toinsurethatyou
retainthissafetydeviceequippedcylinder,
take ittoan LPgasservicestationforfilling,
or whenexchangingyour cylinderat a
cylinderexchangestation,requestthatyour
replacementcylinderbefittedwith theO.P.D,
feature,

Devices for LP Gas Cylinders

Afterpurgingor fillingan LPGascylinder,Do
Notinserta POLplugintothe valveoutlet.
Insertionofthe plugwill preventthe back-check
fromclosing.UseONLYthe providedcap and
strapattachedtothe outlet. Closethecylinder
valveknobbeforereturningthecylinderto the
customer.

Yournewgasgrillisequipped with aType1
connectiondevicewhich has3 safetyfeatures:

1. Proofofgas sealbetweenthe connectorand
the cylinderbeforegasflow takesplace.
2. Afiow limitingdevicedesignedto limitthe flow
ofgas in theeventof a regulatoror hose
failure.
3. Theconnectionhasa thermalshut-offwhichwill
stoptheflow ofgas ifthe connectionrea_es a
certaintemperature.
Yournewgasgrillisalsoequipped(onselected
modelsonly)withan O.P.D.inthe gascylinder
whichgreatlyreducesthechanceof accidentally
overfillingthe cylinder.
SpecialnoteconceringLPGas Cylinders:
Itisimportanttoinsurethatyournewgas cylinder
is propertypurgedbeforeit isfilled. Pleaseinform
yourpropanegasdealerthat this is anew
cylinderand needsto beproperlypurgedbefore
beingfilled.
SpecialnoteconcedngTypeI connecUon
devices'.If you noticeve_ smal_flamesonthe
burner(s),you mayhaveaccidentallyactivated
theflow limitingdevicein theType1 connection
device. Besidesa ruptureinthe gashose,the
flow limitingdevicemayactivatefor one ofthe
twofollowingreasons:
1. Openingthe burnercontrolknobsbefore
openingthe cylindervalve.
Solution: Shutthe burnercontrolknobsand
the LPcylindervalveoffandopenin the proper
order:
a). Openthe LP cylinderval'_efirst,then
b). Openthe burnercontrolknoband ignitethe
burneraccordingto theinstructionsin this
manuatforyourgrill
Ifyou stillhavea problem,thenthere maybe
air in thecylinderdueto improperpurging.
2.The LPcylinderwasnotproperlypurged
beforeit wasfilled.
Solution: SeeyourLPgassupplier.

valveandcouplingnut. Note:Thecouplingnut
connectstothe largeoutsidethreadsonthe
valveoutlet.
4. Holdthe regulatorin onehandandinsertthe
nippleintothe valveoutlet. Besurethe nipple
iscenteredin the valveoutlet.Handtightenthe
couplingnut,takingcarenottocross-threedthe
connection.
5. Turnthe couplingnutclockwise;tightento afull
stop. Ifyoucannotcompletethefinal
connection,disconnecttheregulatorand repeat
step4. If youarestillunabletocompletethe
connection,Do Not usethis valveandregulator!
6. Checkthatthe hosehas nokinksor sharp
bendsand clearsareasthatwill becomehot
during use. Neverputstrainonthe hosewhere
itjoins afitting.
7. BEFORElightinggrill,chockall connectionsfor
leaksusingthe procedureasshownin Fig.17.

How to Check for Leaks
1.Createa soapysolutionofequalpartsmild
liquiddishwashingdetergentandwater.
2.Turnoff allburnercontrolknobs.
3.Turnon fuelsupply. Turncylindervalve knob
counterclockwise(righttoleft) one rotation.
4.Applysoapsolutionto connectionsindicated
with arrowsin Fig. 17& Fig.18. Ifbubbles

The IgniterSystemconsistsofa gascollector,
electrode,wireandigniter(sideburnersincludea
secondelectrodewithwire). Gasaccumulatingin
thegascollectoris ignitedbyanelectric spark
generatedwhenthe igniterunitis activated. The
sparkgap isautomaticallysetwhen theelectrode
is installed.Theigniterwireshouldbe kept a
minimumof 3" belowthe grill bottomsothatthe
heatwon'tdamagethewire.
TestingThe IgniterSystem:
Besurecontrolknobvalve(s)areoff andproceed
asfollows:
1.Usinga handmirror,watchthe e_eCtrodetip
insidethe gascollectorwhilepressingthe
igniter.Toavoidapossibleshock,Do Nottouch
