1. Ensure that all employees who use this tool are trained in the proper use of this tool and are aware
of the dangers that may arise if they do not follow the procedures outlined in this brochure.

give one copy to the maintenance foreman; and give one copy to the sub-contract cleanup / internal
cleanup foreman. Additional copies will be provided upon request.
4. The tool is designed and intended to be powerful. That fact should be obvious to your employees,
but you must emphasize it to them.
5. Always disconnect the tool from its power supply when it is not in use.
6. Ensure that employees wear eye protection in accordance with OSHAs eye and face protection re-
quirements (29 CFR 1910.133) at all times.
7. Hand/Wrist/Arm injury and other Cumulative Trauma Disorders may result from repetitive work,
motion or vibration. You must make your employees aware of hazards, symptoms of injury and ap-
propriate prevention. See OSHAs “Ergonomics Program Management Guidelines for Meat Pack-
ing Plants.”
8. Remove and repair any tool that malfunctions. All personnel must be instructed to remove any
malfunctioning equipment.
9. Never make modifications or alterations to the tool. Replace any missing or illegible labels.
10. Avoid injury. Do not permit the tool to be misused.
11. If you resell or distribute a Jarvis product, you must provide the purchaser with the appropriate safe-
ty sheets and tool brochure. Additional copies of safety sheets and tool brochures will be provided
upon request.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 Suspend the Model 464 Wellsaw from a balancer.
Jarvis part number 4042045 is available.
2 Make the necessary air connection.
2.1 The requires compressed air supply is 53 ft3/
min at 100 psi. (1.5 m3/ min at 6.8 bars).
2.2 Refer to pages 4 and 5 more information about
the air hook up.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 DAILY CHECKLIST:
1.1 Make sure that the compressed air supply is at
the correct pressure and that the lubricator is up
to the full mark. Use Jarvis Air Mist Lubricator
Oil; if using a conventional air mist lubricator
set the feed rate at 8--10 drops per minute; if us-
ing a micro fog air mist lubricator set the feed
rate at 100 drops per minute. Note: Almost all
air mist lubricators are of the micro fog type.
1.2 Make sure that the saw moves freely on the ba-
lancer.
1.3 Make sure that the saw is working correctly:
Depress the trigger and the tool should start.
Release the trigger and the tool should stop. If
the tool malfunctions, remove it from service
and report the problem to your supervisor im-
mediately.
1.4 Always use two hands when starting and stop-
ping the saw. Continue holding the saw firmly
with both hands until the blade comes to a com-
plete stop.
2 AVERAGE CUTTING AND RIPPING:
2.1 Place your work piece on a solid support at a
convenient working height.
2.2 Adjust the material so that the line of cut will be
close to the support. Secure it firmly.
2.3 To prevent starting torque of the motor from
pulling the saw away from line of cut, the opera-
tor should make a few short strokes until the
blade has cut into the material about 1/4 inch
(16.3 mm) before squeezing trigger switch.
2.4 Both hands should be on the saw at all times
while cutting. Continue holding the tool with
both hands until the saw blade comes to a com-
plete stop.
2.5 The saw should be kept at a 90 degree angle to
the work piece while cutting material that is
thicker than 1 inch (25.4 mm).
2.6 The saw should be pushed firmly into the mate-
rial while cutting.
2.7 Do not allow the saw blade or the blade support
to leave the work piece while cutting.
2.8 Never allow the saw blade to float into the mate-
rial while cutting.
2.9 Never permit any part of the saw, except the
blade and the blade support, to contact the work
piece during the cut.
3 CUTTING LARGE CROSS SECTIONS:
3.1 Rocking the saw in the cut will speed up the cut-
ting action.
4 SINKING THE BLADE THROUGH A SUR-
FACE:
4.1 Your power hand saw is not designed for regular
use in starting its own hole by sinking blades
through a surface, commonly called “plunge
cutting”. If attempted, the operator must:
a. Keep the saw blade as parallel to the work
as possible.
b. Immediately, as the blade makes contact
with the work piece, start to draw the saw
back slowly from the starting point.

c. Repeat the operation outlined in “b”, if nec-
essary.
d. Have room to draw the saw at least 4--6 in-
ches before cutting through a 1 inch (25.4
mm) thickness.
e. Do not force the saw blade, but keep it
moving slowly on the draw back from the
starting point. After a break through cut
has been made and the end of the blade sup-
port extends through the material at least
1--1/2 inches (38 mm), the saw may be
tipped to a normal cutting angle.
5 NOT FOR CUTTING SMALL RADII:
6 ALWAYS KEEP A SHARP BLADE ON THE
SAW:
6.1 Cutting with a dull or badly worn blade can
overload the saw and cause damage from over-
heating.
6.2 New blades can be purchased from Jarvis.
MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE COM-
PRESSED AIR SUPPLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH
OSHA’S LOCKOUT/TAGOUT PROCEDURES (29 CFR
1910.147) WHEN INSTALLING OR REMOVING THE
BLADE. ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE AIR SUPPLY IN
ACCORDANCE WITH OSHA’S LOCKOUT/TAGOUT
PROCEDURES (29 CFR 1920.147) BEFORE PERFORM-
ING ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
Item numbers: refer to the parts diagram on pages 4 and
5.
1 DAILY:
1.1 Inspect all hoses for cuts and abrasions and re-
place as necessary.
1.2 Check all fittings and connections for leaks and
tighten or replace as necessary.
1.3 An air filter/regulator/lubricator (Jarvis part
number 3022003) must be installed in the air
supply line. Keep the lubricator filled at all
times.
1.4 Make sure that the saw is working correctly.
Note: The air supply must be connected to per-
form this maintenance check only.
Depress the trigger and the tool should start.
Release the trigger and the tool should stop. If
the tool malfunctions, repair or remove it from
service immediately.
Always use two hands when starting and stop-
ping the tool. Continue holding the saw firmly
with both hands until the blade comes to a com-
plete stop.
2 WEEKLY:
2.1 Remove the bearing cover (item 24) from gear
housing (item 21).
2.2 Apply Jarvis 1315 White Grease to the pinion
and crown gears (items 66 and 68).
3 MONTHLY:
3.1 The gear case should be kept 1/3 full of grease.
To check the grease level, remove the bottom
plate (item 2) and its gasket (item 3). Check
more frequently for saws that are used daily.
Use Jarvis 1315 White Grease.
4 BLADE REMOVAL:
NOTE: Your Jarvis Wellsaw is equipped with a hex key
(item 81) for removing the blade. This wrench is located
in the housing directly behind the blade support.
4.1 Insert the hex key through the hole in the outer
end of blade (item 40 or 42) and pull the blade
to the outer end of its stroke.
4.2 Loosen the blade holding set screw (item 80)
about 1/2 turn.
4.3 Reinsert the hex key in the hole at the outer end
of the blade and pull the blade out.
5 BLADE INSTALLATION:
5.1 STANDARD BLADE SUPPORT (End Cutting):
a. Slide the blade onto the blade support until
the crimp in the blade is touching the end of
the blade support.
b. Use a rubber hammer and tap the end of the
blade towards the body of the saw until the
crimp in the blade slides into the slot in the
blade support.

c. Tighten the set screw (item 80) with the hex
key (item 81).
5.2 HEAVY DUTY BLADE SUPPORT (Heavy Duty):
a. Place the grooved end of blade (item 40)
into the guide in the blade support (item
39).
b. Slide the blade over the blade support to-
wards the body of the saw. Make sure that
the tabs on the blade extend over each side
of the blade support.
5.3 Slide the blade into the push rod (item 84) as far
as it will go.
5.4 Tighten the set screw (item 80) with the hex key
(item 81).
6 BLADE SUPPORT REMOVAL:
6.1 Remove cap nuts (item 31) and flat washers
(item 30).
6.2 Remove blade support (item 39 or 41), threaded
stud (item 44) and bushings (item 43).
7 BLADE SUPPORT INSTALLATION:
7.1 Reverse steps 6.1 -- 6.2.
8 GENERAL DISASSEMBLY:
8.1 Remove blade (item 40 or 42) and blade support
(item 39 or 41).
8.2 Remove handle cover (item 5) and tie bar (item
28).
8.3 Swing air conveying components (items 6--19)
out of gear housing (item 21) and lift air tube as-
sembly end out of motor housing (item 32).
8.4 Disassemble individual components as neces-
sary.
8.5 Examine o--rings (items 6 and 13), screen (item
16) and valve seat (item 18). Replace parts, if
necessary.
8.6 Remove bearing cover (item 24), bottom cover
plate (item 2) and gaskets (item 23 and 3).
8.7 Insert a small block of wood between the con-
necting link (item 78) and the gear housing (item
21) to stop the rotation of the connecting link.
Remove lock nut (item 77) and thrust washer
(item 74).
8.8 Remove rod stud (item 79), connecting link
(item 78) and push rod (item 84).
8.9 Insert a small block of wood between the crank
arm (item 73) and the gear housing (item 21) to
stop the rotation of the crank arm. Using a 5/16
inch hex key, loosen drive shaft (item 70) from
crank arm (item 73).
8.10 Press drive stud (item 72) out of crank arm (item
73) if it is necessary to replace inner race (item
75).
8.11 Clean the gear housing cavity to remove any
contaminated lubricant.
8.12 Remove bearing cover (item 24) and gasket
(item 23).
8.13 Remove screws (item 22) and separate motor
housing (item 32) from gear housing (item 21).
Motor housing assembly will consist of items
50--62, 65 and 91--94.
8.14 Loosen three set screws (item 35).
8.15 Remove items 53--66 and 87--93 from gear
housing (item 21).
8.16 Unthread pinion gear (item 66) from rotor (item
56).
8.17 Disassemble further as necessary to inspect part
for wear. Replace parts as required.
8.18 Lift crown gear assembly (items 67--71) out of
gear housing (item 21).
8.19 Disassemble further as necessary to inspect part
for wear. Replace parts as required.
8.20 Remove pipe nipple (item 94) from front motor
housing (item 50). Slide front motor assembly
(items 50--52) out of motor housing (item 32).
8.21 Remove bushing (item 83) and seals (item 82)
from motor housing (item 32). Inspect parts and
repair or replace as required.
8.22 Disassemble parts further as necessary to in-
spect part for wear. Replace parts as required.
8.23 Reassemble by reversing these steps.
NOTE (when reassembling):
a. Use Loctite 271 on socket set screws (item
35) after inserting rear motor housing (item
63) into gear housing (item 21).
