DESCRIPTION: Acrylex 400 Primer is a premium-quality acrylic
primer. It is blister resistant, flexible, and highly durable. Acrylex 400
Primer is effective in providing corrosion protection, rust resistance,
and enhanced adhesion over steel, aluminum, and galvanized metal
surfaces prior to coating. In addition to providing excellent corrosion
resistance over metal substrates, Acrylex 400 Primer also exhibits alkali
resistance over concrete and masonry, as well as tannin resistance over
wood surfaces. Acrylex 400 Primer is a water-based, medium viscosity
material, and conforms to most local, state, and federal environmental
and VOC requirements. Acrylex 400 Primer is a single-component, off-
white, ready-to-use material.
USES: Acrylex 400 Primer exhibits excellent adhesion over a wide
variety of properly prepared surfaces, including steel, aluminum,
galvanized metal, new and weathered wood, previously painted
surfaces, concrete masonry, and brick.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and
free of any dirt, dust, oil, surface chemicals, or other contaminants.
Any unsound areas in the roof must be repaired or replaced prior to
application. Deteriorated or badly corroded or rusted metal must be
replaced prior to application.
APPLICATION: Apply Acrylex 400 Primer with a brush, roller, or
sprayer at the rate of 0.33 – 0.5 gallon per 100 square feet (1.34 – 2.04
L/10 m
2
). Coverage rate will vary depending upon the substrate, its
surface profile, and porosity. One coat is usually sufficient for priming
most surfaces, however, a second coat may be required on porous
surfaces.
SPRAY INSTRUCTIONS: Any airless spray capable of 1,000 psi
(6,980 kPa) and 0.5 gallon per minute (1.9 L/minute) can be used.
A reversible, self-cleaning spray tip with an orifice size of 0.015”
to 0.021” (0.38 to 0.53 mm) and minimum 40-degree fan angle is
recommended. Before spraying, flush equipment with clean water
to prevent contamination. When using Acrylex 400 Primer as a spot
primer over previously coated surfaces, abrade the existing material
to a feather edge so that the top coat makes a smooth transition
over the primed areas. Apply using multi-directional spray passes to
ensure positive coverage. On porous or textured surfaces requiring
more than one coat, subsequent coats should be applied in a direction
perpendicular to the previous coat after it has dried.
DRY TIME: Allow Acrylex 400 Primer to dry completely before apply
coating or flashing. Coating should normally occur within 48 hours of
application of Acrylex 400 Primer.
CLEAN-UP: Water and mild soap before curing.
STORAGE & HANDLING: Store material in a clean and well-ventilated
area at 40°F – 90°F (4°C – 32°C). Storage outside this temperature
range may shorten shelf life. Keep containers covered when not in use.
Do NOT allow primer to freeze.
SHELF LIFE: 18 months from date of manufacture in unopened
containers, if stored properly.
IMPOR TANT: Repair leaks promptly to avoid adverse effects,
including mold growth.
DO NOT apply on wet substrates or in temperatures below 5F
(10°C).
DO NOT apply if rain, dew, fog, or freezing temperatures are in the
24-hour forecast.
DO NOT apply in the late afternoon if heavy moisture condensation
may appear during the night.
DO NOT apply on substrates that exceed 105°F (40°C).
