Accessory Connection Module Installation Guide
This document describes how to install the Accessory Connection Module (ACM) (NTMN71xx). The ACM is an
optional hardware module that you install into the telephone footstand. The ACM provides a port, or ports, to connect
the accessory cartridge interface.
The
3902 has one accessory port. The 3903, 3904, and 3905 have two accessory ports.
Note: The
3901 does not support the ACM.
The plug-in cartridge allows the
3900 Series Digital Telephones to use the following accessories:
Meridian External Alerter and Recording Interface (MEARI)
Personal Directory PC Utility (
3904 and 3905)
Full Duplex Handsfree (FDHF) cartridge (
3904 Phase III only)
•Analog Terminal Adapter (ATA)
Computer Telephony Integration Adapter (CTIA)
Note: The Meridian SL-100 does not support the CTIA.

2. Pull the footstand away from the back of the telephone.
3. Disconnect the line cord from the base of the telephone.
4. Move the telephone down 7 mm (1/4 inch), then use the hinges to swing the telephone
footstand away from the base of the telephone.
5. Snap the ACM into the rectangular opening in the telephone footstand. Ensure that it is
snapped in securely.
6. Plug the ACM cable connector into the back of the telephone.
7. Place the ACM attached ribbon cable into the track running down the telephone base.
8. Snap the plastic cable cover in place over the ACM ribbon cable.
9. Connect the line cord into the base of the telephone.
10. Connect the hinges to the telephone base and swing the footstand back in place.
11. Snap the footstand into a fixed position.
12. Return the telephone to its original position.
You can access the ACM connector ports through a cutout on the base of the footstand. When you are ready to attach
an accessory, insert your selected accessory cartridge into the ACM.
There are two ports at the back of the telephone footstand on the
3903, 3904, and 3905. Each port can sup-
port one cartridge accessory. The
3903, 3904, and 3905 can use a maximum of two cartridge accessories.
The
3902 supports one cartridge accessory.
Accessory
compatibility
The ACM provides up to two port connections. Some port types are not compatible. For
example, you cannot simultaneously use two data accessories that require a serial port.
The shape and size of the plug-in accessory cartridge prevents you from accidentally con-
necting incompatible accessories. If you are purchasing two accessory cartridges, refer to
Table 1 on page 3 to see if you can use the two accessories with the
3903, 3904, or
3905 at the same time. The 3902 supports only one accessory. See Table 1 on page 3
before you purchase optional hardware accessories.
Note: Not all accessories are supported on all telephones in the
3900 Series portfolio.

Wall transformers
You need a wall transformer that connects to the ACM to use accessory cartridges.
Contact your

The ACM requires one of the following wall transformers to power the accessory car-
tridges:
110 V wall transformer (NTMN80AA)
EU (EMEA) 230 V wall transformer (NTHC09AA)
UK 230 V wall transformer (NTHC08AA)
To connect the wall transformer:
1. Insert the accessory cartridge into the ACM. Refer to your accessory installation
guide.
