Install
Connect the mini USB plug of the supplied cable to the 1
player.
Connect the standard USB plug of the supplied cable to your 2
PC.
From the pop-up window, select 3 Install Philips Device
Manager.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation 4
of Philips Device Manager.
If the pop-up window is not displayed automatically:
Select 1 My Computer (Windows XP / Windows 2000) /
Computer (Windows Vista).
Right click on 2 Philips GoGear Spark.
Select 3 Install Philips Device Manager.

Connect and charge
A
Connect to PC
When you connect the player to the PC directly, it
automatically charges.
Before you use the player for the rst time, charge it for 1
at least 2 hours.
The battery has a 100% charge after 2 hours and an 80% >
charge after 1 hour.
Connect the supplied USB cable to the mini USB port at 2
the bottom of the player, the other end directly to your PC.
The player will start to charge as soon as it is connected to >
your PC.

Read the battery level indication of your player
The approximate power levels of your battery are indicated
as follows:
Full Two-thirds full Half full Low Empty
Note When the batteries are almost empty, the low
battery screen
blinks. The player saves all settings
and unnished recordings and switches off in less than
60 seconds.

Transfer
The player appears as a USB mass storage device in Windows
Explorer. You can organize les, and transfer music to your player
during USB connection.
Click and highlight one or more songs to transfer between the 1
player and the computer.
Use drag and drop actions to complete your transfer.2
Tip To transfer music CDs to the player use software such
as Windows Media Player, rip (convert) the songs on your
music CD into MP3/WMA les. Copy the les into the digital
audio player via Windows Explorer. Free versions of such
programs can be downloaded from the Internet.

Listen to audiobooks
The player supports books in audio format. The use of this
feature requires that you download the AudibleManager from
audible.com. With the AudibleManager you can manage the
digital contents of your audiobooks.
Visit audible.com and register. The onscreen instructions
guide you through the AudibleManager software download
process.

Radio
From the main menu, select to enter radio mode.
Connect the headphones
The supplied headphones serve as a radio antenna. Ensure you
connect the headphones properly for an optimal reception.
Auto tune
While in the Radio menu 1 , press OPTIONS and select Auto
tune.
The radio automatically tunes radio stations and saves the >
frequencies to presets.
The radio can store up to 20 radio station to presets.
Play a preset radio station
From the Radio menu 1 , select the preset.

To exit radio, press

Recordings
You can record audio with the player.
Make recordings
From the Recordings menu 1
select Start voice recording.
The player records and shows the recording display. >

Your recordings are saved on the player. (Filename format: >
VOICEXXX.WAV where XXX is the recording number, which will
be automatically generated.)

Troubleshooting
How do I reset my player?
Insert a pen tip or other sharp object into the reset hole located at
the bottom of the player. Hold until the player shuts down.
If none of the above works, then you may have to use the
Device Manager to recover your player:
Launch the 1 Philips Device Manager at Start > Programs >
Philips Digital Audio Player > SA29XX > Philips SA29XX
Device Manager on your PC.
Press and hold the 2 OPTIONS button while your player is
connecting to the PC.
Keep holding the key until the 3 Philips Device Manager
acknowledges your player and goes into recovery mode.
Click the 4 Repair button and follow the instructions given by the
Device Manager.
After the player has been repaired, disconnect it from your PC 5
and re-start.
