Setting up the soil moisture sensor
1)Alwayscleanthesoilmoisturesensor(16)beforeuseortakingotherreadingsfordifferentpotsorloca-
tions.
2)Carefullypushtheprobeintothesoiltoavoiddamagetothesensor’stwometalpins
3)Inserttheprobestraightupanddownasverticallyaspossible,abouthalfwaybetweentheplantstem
andtheedgeofthepot.Forpotsover12inchindiameterpositiontheprobeaboutathirdoftheway
betweenthestemandtheedgeofthepot.
4)Pushtheprobedownuntilthesoilmoisturesensor(orsoiltemperaturesensor)reachestheroot(or
seedbed)levelorabouttwothirdsofthedepthofthepot.Neverinserttheprobebeyondthelevelas
indicatedbelow.

Note:
•Theremotesensormeasurescurrentelectricowbetweenthetwometalpinsontheprobeandcon-
vertsthesignalintosoilmoisturelevelindication.Duetothefactthatelectricalconductivityvariesbe-
tweendifferenttypesanddensitiesofsoilandfertilizeraswellasthepositioninganddepthoftheprobe,
themoisturelevelreadingmayvaryaccordingly,andthisisnormal.Thesoilmoisturelevelistoprovide
generalreferenceofthesoilmoistureconditiononly,andnoliabilityistakenbythemanufacturerforany
lossordamagecausedtoyourplants.
•Theremotesensormaynotbeabletomeasurethesoilmoistureaccuratelyforverycoarseorcom-
pressedhardsoilsduetothenon-conductiveairgaporspacinghiddeninsidethesoil.Inthiscasethe
soilmoisturereadingmaybelowerthanexpected,andthisisnormal.
•Thesensingcycleofthesoilmoistureisaround10minutes.Afterwatering,waitforaround10minutes
ormorebeforethesoilmoisturelevelisupdatedonthedisplayandallowtimeforthewatertopenetrate
intothesoil.
