or the appliance in water or other liquids.
4. Children younger than 14 years of age are to be kept away
from the appliance and the power cord.
5. This appliance may be used by children who are 14 years of
age or older and by persons with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and/or knowledge,
if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use
of the appliance and have understood the potential risks.
6. Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use and
before cleaning. Allow the appliance to cool before putting
on or taking off parts and before cleaning it.
7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug
or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in
any manner. Return the appliance to the nearest authorized

FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Ensure that the appliance never comes into contact with water
while the plug is inserted into a power socket, especially if
you are using it in the kitchen and close to the sink.
Ensure that the power cord never gets wet or damp when the
appliance is in use. Route the cord so that it cannot be trapped
or damaged in any way.
Arrange for defective power plugs and/or cords to be re-
placed as soon as possible by a qualified technician or by
our customer service department to avoid the risk of injury.
US-EN 5
SKG 1000 B3
Set up the appliance as close as possible to the electrical
power socket. Ensure that the power plug is quickly reachable
in case
of danger, and also that there is no danger of tripping over the
cord.
The appliance must be connected to a power socket with a
protective earth.
Provide a stable location for the appliance.
Always disconnect the plug from the power socket after use.
Simply turning the appliance off is not sufficient, as it remains
under power for as long as the plug is inserted into the power
socket.
Caution! Hot surface!
Very hot steam can escape when opening the lid. It is there-
fore best to wear oven mitts when opening the appliance.
Parts of the appliance will become hot during operation; you
should only hold the appliance by the handle. The browning
control can also become hot after a certain amount of opera-
tion – it is therefore best to wear oven mitts.
Baked foods can burn! Never set up and use the appliance in
the vicinity of flammable objects, especially not under curtains.
Do not use an external timer switch or a separate remote
control system to operate the appliance.
Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
Ensure that the appliance, the power cord, and the plug do
not come into contact with heat sources such as hotplates or
naked flames.
6 US-EN SKG 1000 B3
To protect the non-stick coating, do not use metallic tools such
as knives, forks, etc. If the non-stick coating is damaged, stop
using the appliance.
Operate the appliance only with the original accessories
supplied.
Do not use charcoal or similar fuels to operate the appliance!
Important cord information
This appliance has a polarized plug. To reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock, there is only one way this plug is intended to fit into a
polarized outlet. If the plug does not completely fit into the outlet,
reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electri-
cian. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
A short power supply cord (or detachable power supply cord)
should be used to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entan-
gled in, or tripping over a longer cord.
Longer detachable power supply cords or extensions cords may
be used if they are used carefully.
If a longer detachable power supply cord or extension cord
is used:
1) The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord
should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appli-
ance;
2) The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the
countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by
children, or tripped over unintentionally; and
3) If the appliance has a grounded plug, the cord set or
extension cord should also be a grounded 3-wire cord.
Proper use
This appliance is intended exclusively for grilling food indoors.
This appliance is intended exclusively for use in domestic house-
holds. Not to be used for commercial purposes.

Preparing
Never place the appliance underneath wall cabinets or next
to curtains, cupboard walls or other flammable objects. Risk of
Fire! Place the appliance only on a heat-resistant surface.
First, clean the appliance as described in "Cleaning and
maintenance". Ensure that all parts are completely dry.
Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, clean and level surface.
Ensure that you do not place the appliance directly next to
a wall or a cupboard.
Insert the fat drip tray 4 into the slot in the front of the appli-
ance (see also fold-out page).
Before first use
During first use, you may notice a slight smell (there may also be
minimal smoke). This is normal and dissipates after a short time.
Ensure sufficient ventilation. For instance, by opening a window.
Wipe the griddle with a damp cloth.
Lightly grease the griddles with an oil that is suitable for baking/
grilling. This will make it easier to remove any manufacturing
related residue from the griddle.
Close the appliance.
Insert the plug into a power socket. The red "Power" indicator
light 1 lights up. The appliance heats up.
Wait for 5 minutes.
Then disconnect the plug and allow the appliance to cool
down.
Wipe the griddle with a damp cloth after cooling.
US-EN 9
SKG 1000 B3
Clean the fat drip tray 4 as described in the section on
"Cleaning and maintenance".
Ensure that all parts are completely dry before operating the
appliance.
The appliance is now ready for use.
Operation
The appliance is extremely hot during use. Risk of injury! For
this reason, do not touch anything but the handle 3 during
use! Use an oven mitt to hold the appliance.
Now close the lid.
Insert the plug into a power socket. The red "Power" indicator
light 1 lights up and the appliance heats up.
As soon as the green "Ready" indicator light 2 lights up, the
appliance has heated up sufficiently.
Open the lid at the handle 3 and place the food onto the
griddle.
The red "Power" indicator light 1 lights up as soon as the power
plug is connected to a power socket. Once the appliance has
heated up, the green "Ready" indicator light 2 also lights up.
However, the light may turn off and on again at any time. This
means that the appliance is maintaining the temperature by heat-
ing up from time to time.
Now close the lid.
Fat and liquids will run into the fat drip tray 4 during use.
Check the food at regular intervals. When you are satisfied,
open the lid at the handle 3 and remove the food from the
griddle.
10 US-EN SKG 1000 B3
Do not use metal utensils such as knives, forks, etc. If the non-
stick coating becomes damaged, stop using the appliance.
When you have finished cooking the food, disconnect the plug
from the power socket. The red "Power" indicator light 1 turns
off. This is the only way to turn the appliance off.
Cleaning and maintenance
Never open the device casing. There are no user-serviceable
elements inside. When the casing is open, there is a risk of
receiving a potentially fatal electrical shock.
Before cleaning the appliance, unplug it and wait until it has
cooled down completely. Risk of injury!
Never clean the appliance under running water or
submerge it in water. The appliance could be irreparably
damaged!
Do not use an external timer switch or a separate remote con-
trol system to operate the appliance.
To avoid irreparable damage, make sure no moisture pene-
trates the appliance.
Do not clean the surface with abrasive cleaning agents, or
sharp or scratchy objects.
Do not use metal implements such as knives, forks, etc. Should
the non-stick coating become damaged, discontinue use of the
appliance.
It is best to clean the appliance as soon as it has cooled down.
This makes food residues easier to remove.

mild detergent. Then rinse the fat drip tray 4 with clean water
and dry it off.

The griddle must be completely dry before using it again.
If any stubborn residue sticks to the griddle, use a little detergent.
Then wipe the griddle with a cloth moistened with clean water.
Ensure that no detergent residue remains on the griddle.
If you have used detergent to clean the griddle, make sure that
you rub it lightly with oil afterwards!
Wipe the casing with a damp cloth. If necessary, put a little
mild detergent on the cloth and wipe the griddle off afterwards
with clear water. Dry everything properly.
