Chapter Two Safety Information
The purpose of this manual is to assist you in operating and maintaining the LasTec Articulator.
Read it carefully. It furnishes information and instructions which will help you enjoy years of
dependable performance from the Articulator. These instructions are compiled from extensive
field experience and engineering data. Some information may be general in nature due to
unknown and varying operating conditions. However, these instructions, coupled with your
increasing experience with the Articulator, will enable you to develop procedures suitable to your
particular situation.
The illustrations and data used in this manual were current at the time of printing, but the
Articulator may vary slightly due to possible in-line production changes. We reserve the right to
redesign and change the Articulator as may be necessary without notification.
Some illustrations in this manual show the Articulator with safety guards removed in order to
provide a better view. This is for informational purposes only -- never operate the Articulator
with any of the safety guards removed!
NEVER OPERATE THE ARTICULATOR WITH ANY SAFETY
GUARDS REMOVED!!
WORK SAFELY! FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES! A CAREFUL
OPERATOR IS THE BEST INSURANCE AGAINST ACCIDENTS!
Throughout this manual, we make references to right and left directions. We determine right and
left while standing behind the Articulator and facing in the direction of forward travel. Blade
rotation is clockwise as viewed from the top of the Articulator.
Safety is a primary concern in the design and manufacture of our products. Unfortunately, our
extensive efforts to provide safe equipment can be wiped out by a single careless act of an
operator. In addition to the design and configuration of the Articulator, hazard control and
accident prevention are also dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence and proper
training of all personnel involved in the operation, transportation, maintenance, and storage of
equipment.
THE BEST SAFETY DEVICE IS AN INFORMED, CAREFUL OPERATOR! We ask you
to be that kind of operator.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ARE IMPORTANT! READ ALL SAFETY
RULES IN THIS MANUAL AS WELL AS ALL SAFETY RULES IN
THE TRACTOR MANUAL!

FATAL INJURY CAN RESULT!
1. Check the gearbox oil level. The gearbox requires 28-29 oz. of SAE 80W-90 grade gear
oil.
2. The proper oil level should just reach the plug hole located on the side of the gearbox. Refer
to Fig. X-2.01, Reference Number (1).
3. Mount the lift pins into the pull arms. Secure with 7/8” split lock washers and 7/8-14 hex
nuts. Refer to Fig. X-1.01, Reference Numbers (1), (2), and (5).
4. Insert the bronze bushings into the pull arms and pull bar. Insert two 1” bushings into
the collars located on the ends of the pull arms, a 1” bushing into each ball swivel located on
the tops of the pull arms, and a 3/4” bushing into the upper holes in the plates located on
each side of the pull bar. Refer to Fig. X-1.01, Reference Numbers (1), (2), (7), and (16),
and Fig. X-1.03, Reference Number (4).
5. Mount the pull arm assemblies onto the pull bar. Fasten with 1” x 4 1/2” clevis pins,
secured with 1/4” lynch pins. Refer to Fig. X-1.03, Reference Numbers (1), (5), and (6).
6. Slide the weight transfer springs onto the weight transfer rods. Refer to Fig. X-1.01,
Reference Numbers (3) and (4).
7. Mount the weight transfer assemblies to the pull arms and the pull bar. Slide the long
end of the weight transfer rods into the ball swivels located on the tops of the pull arms, then
slide the short end into the holes located on either side of the pull arm. Secure with 3/16”
lynch pins. Refer to Fig. X-1.03, Reference Numbers (1-4) and (7).
8. Prepare to remove the chain or strap from the outside decks which are shipped in
folded position. Position one person beside each folded deck. Have them push in on the
folded decks simultaneously, relieving the tension on the chain or strap. While the tension is
relieved, remove the chain or strap from each of the folded decks. CAREFULLY lower both
decks to the ground.
9. Install the two anti-scalp wheels to decks X4 and X5. Refer to Fig. X-4.05.
10. Affix the two “Outer Decks” warning decals (located in the front folder of this manual)
