1. GENERAL
This section provides installation and maintenance
information for the ADTRAN Type 200 or Type 400
Single Mount Housing. The T400 Housing is used to
house a standard T400 circuit pack, and is capable of
performing loop termination. Figure 1 is an
illustration of the unit.
Basic Features
The basic features of the unit are listed below.
Standalone Type 400 housing
-48 Vdc power connections
Network connection through a terminal strip
Interchangeable RJ-48C or RJ-48X jacks shipped
with unit for connection to CPE
Durable, hinged metal enclosure
Wraparound transparent front panel for easy LED
viewing
Cover secured with captive screw
The T400 Housing is designed to accept any standard
Type 200 or Type 400 plug-in card. For non-loop
powered units, the T400 Housing can provide power
to the circuit card through an external power supply.
The ADTRAN 1353DSK48V04 power supply can be
used to provide -48 Vdc from standard 100-120 Vac
to power these cards.
This power supply must be purchased separately. The
T400 Housing also provides network and customer
interface connections to the circuit card.
Revision History
Issue 2 of this document includes new switch SW1
and additional pin descriptions.
Description
The ADTRAN T400 Housing, part number
1242034L3, is a Type 400 metal chassis that is
intended to be wall-mounted. It houses a single T200
or T400 circuit card.
2. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Figure 1 illustrates the ADTRAN T400 Housing with
the cover on. Connections are made available by

Inside the housing are two terminal strips (TS1 and
TS2), shown in Figure 2 for connecting to the
network, the CPE, and to an external power source if
used. All wiring connections should be made
according to the label inside the unit cover (Figure 2).
Local power connects to terminals 17 (-48VR) and 35
(-48V) of TS1. A grounding lug is provided for frame
ground connections.
CAUTION
Ensure a frame ground connection is securely
made at ground lug (P1).
Ground Switch
Slide switch SW1 selects a ground connection to pins
1, 11, and 27 or to pin 27 only.
Rear Panel
The rear panel of the T400 Housing contains a slot for
either an RJ-48C jack (factory installed and wired for
HDSL) or an RJ-48X jack (shipped loose) for CPE
connections. The rear panel also has portals for
network, customer, and power wiring plus a ground
wire. See Figure 3.
Figure 2. T400 Housing Terminal Strips
When using plug-in cards that only require one pair (i.e., ADTRAN H2TU-R, P/N 1221026LX), use one
set of loop connection screws
only
(See plug in practice for pin numbers).

3. INSTALLATION
NOTE
The T400 housing requires an NEC Class 2 type
power supply rated 48 Vdc, maximum 240 VA
After unpacking the unit, inspect it for damage. If
damage is discovered, file a claim with the carrier,
then contact ADTRAN. See Warranty and Customer
Service. Components shipped with the unit include
the following:
T400 chassis (including RJ-48C jack)
RJ-48X jack (shipped loose)
Four #8 screws
Wall mounting template (if ordered)
The T400 chassis is designed to be wall-mounted
using the four #8 screws provided. Install the housing
using the following procedure:
1. Determine the housing location and orientation.
Ensure clearance so the cover fully opens and
wiring reaches termination points.
2. Remove the circuit board from the housing (if
installed).
3. Mark where the pilot holes will be drilled.
Use dimensions in Figure 4 or,
Use the bottom panel as a template or,
Use the template (if ordered), remove after
use.
4. Using the appropriate bit, drill the four pilot
holes.
5. Position the housing in the desired orientation
and secure to the wall using the screws provided.

Compliance Codes
Table 1 shows the Compliance Codes for the T400
Single-Mount Housing. The Housing complies with
the requirements covered under UL 1459 third edition
and is intended to be installed in an enclosure with an
Installation Code (IC) of “E.”
Code Input Output
Installation Code (IC) E
Telecommunication Code (TC) X X
Power Code (PC) F C
Table 1. Compliance Codes
NOTE
Copper ground lug (P1) must beconnected
to a known approved ground location.
Ensure metal to metal contact on all
connections and verify ground circuit
continuity.
The RJ48 connector can be wired for 2, 4, or
6 -wire technologies. Any excess wire should
be clipped.
The label inside the housing (see Figure 2) depicts
various technologies that can be accommodated.
These technologies include DDS, HDSL, HDSL2,
Fractional T1, ADTRAN’s Total Reach ISDN, and
Total Reach DDS.
Power
The T400 Housing is designed for both a
loop-powered or locally-powered circuit card. The
terminal strip provides for connecting an external -48
Vdc supply to the circuit card. These connections are
made to the -48V and -48VR on TS1. Connections
from the terminal strips to the edge connector are
described in Table 2.
