Air Conditioning & Heating
UVX-PR12 and UVX-PR18
Residential Ultra-Violet Object Purifier
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Installation and servicing of air conditioning equipment can be
hazardous due to system pressure and electrical components.
Only trained and qualified service personnel should install,
repair, or service air conditioning equipment.
Untrained personnel can perform basic maintenance functions
such as changing lamps. All other operations should be
performed by trained service personnel. When working on air
conditioning equipment, observe precautions in the literature,
tags and labels attached to the unit or accessory, and other
safety precautions that may apply.
Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses and work gloves.
WARNING
Before installing the accessory or performing
maintenance or service on the accessory, turn off
main power switch to unit. Electrical shock can cause
injury or death. There may be more than one
disconnect switch.
CAUTION
Never expose eys or skin to ultra-violet light from
any source. Lamp must be off before entering HVAC
unit to perform maintenance or service. Personal
injury may result.
CAUTION
Use only specified replacement lamps with this
accessory. Use of an incorrect lamp can result in
damage to accessory or lamp.
CAUTION
Do not touch lamp glass without gloves. Reduced
performance of lamp may result. Clean lamp after
handling.
CAUTION
Lamp contains a small quality of mercury. If a lamp
breaks, clean and dispose of with care.
The high output, low temperature purifier is installed so that
UV rays are directed into the coil of the HVAC unit. It can be
installed in the supply section inside the “A” coil facing into the
coil, or from the top of the coil, facing downward onto the coil.
The UXV-PR12 and the UXV-PR18 purifiers are simple and easy
installations to an existing HVAC unit and incorpartes a quick
release mechanism to clean or replace the lamp.
INSTALLATION
LOCATION
The preferred installation location for the purifier is the insed of
the “A” coil facing upward, or on the top of the HVAC coil, facing
downward. The aluminum parabolic reflector is installed so that
the UV rays will be directed onto the coil, whether from inside
the “A” coil or from above the coil. The reflector is adustable,
sot that the control box will always be facing the homeowner. If
the UXV-PR12 and the UXV-PR18 purifier are installed in the
supply, over the evaporator coil, the drain pan (if plastic) should
be protected from any UV rays, by covering the exposed area
with aluminum foil.
Make sure the site can be supplied with the necessary power
requirements. Ensure that there is adequate clearance for
service.
The Saber APR units can be mounted in a horizontal or vertical
position. More than one unit can be used if needed.
Mount Air Purifier on Unit
Perform the following procedure to install the air purifier:
1. Turn off all power to unit.
2. Evaluate the ideal area for locating and installing the
UXV-PR12 or UXV-PR18 purifier. Ensure that the purifier
will fit into the plenum. Space required internally is
approximately 12-in. for the size 12 unit and 18-in. for
the size 18 unit.
If the drainpan is plastic, it must be protected with a reflective
material, such as metal tape.
3. Ultra-violet light may damage certain plastics and
exposed non-UV-C (ultra-violet and C-band) protected
wires or drainpan. Wrap exposed plastic and wiring with
aluminum tape or use metal conduit.
4. Remove the control box from its package. Open the cover
of the box by loosening the screw 1 or 2 turns to the left.
Swing cover open to allow mounting plate access.
5. Using the back plate as a template, mark off the four
corner holes and the center of the 1-in. diameter lamp
access hole to be cut in the plenum.
6. Drill the four corner holes 1/8 in. diameter and drill a
3.75 inch hole from the center of the 1-in. center.
7. Attach the aluminum extrusion to the back of the back
plate by way of the two hex head screws. The extrusion
should be mounted onto the back plate so that the lamp
will shine onto the coil, either from the top of the coil, or
from inside the “A” of the coil. The extrusion will protect
and direct the UV rays according to the rotation of the
extrusion.
