WARNING!
1. It´s advisable to have an Öhlins dealer or other
qualified person to fit your suspension.
2. Instructions in the vehicle service manual are
to be followed when changing the suspension.
3. When working on a lifted vehicle it must be
securely supported to prevent it from falling.
Mounting instructions
1
Lift up the motorcycle so that the front wheel is
free. This can be done by inserting a piece of
pipe or bar through a suitable aperture in the
bracket in front of the front fork. Ensure that the
motorcycle is properly secured and cannot fall
over.
2
Remove the front fender by loosening the six
screws.
3
Release the brake caliper on each side and let
them hang by the brake leads.
4
Remove the wheel axle, by loosening the clamp-
ing screw on the left side and then screw out the
wheel axle. Lift out the front wheel.
NOTE
The Öhlins front fork is designed to be shorter
than the original Yamaha front fork. This is due to
the fact that the original front fork has a longer
negative stroke (= free sag). The lenght of the forks
is equal when the motorcycle is standing on the
ground.

NOTE!
Make sure that all bolts are tightened in correct
torque and that nothing restrains the front fork
when the suspension is being compressed.
Check with the Workshop manual of the motor-
cycle..
13
Tighten the wheel axle with a torque of
45–50 Nm. Then tighten the two clamping screws
on the left fork leg.
14
Fit the brake calipers.
15
Lower the motorcycle so that the front suspen-
sion works. Brake the front wheel and push the
front suspension down two or three times. This
will put the fork legs in a parallel position.
16
Then tighten the clamping screws on the right
fork leg so that the fork legs are fixed in position.
17
Continue your work according to the Owners
manual, section Adjustments

5
Release the fasteners of the fork legs in the triple
clamps and loosen the screws on the clip-on
handles.
6
Pull the fork legs out downwards and fit Öhlins
fork legs to the triple clamps. Tighten the screws
in the fork crowns and the clip-on handles.
NOTE !
The fork legs are to be mounted so that the first
groove is just visible above the top edge of the
triple clamp. This corresponds to a height of about
4 mm.
NOTE !
Tighten the screws to a maximum torque of 15
Nm. If screws in the lower triple clamp are tight-
ened too hard they can deform the fork tube and
impair the spring action.
7
Fit the circlip model flexible fender bracket by
first pressing it over lower fork leg.
8
Then open it slightly so it can be slided to the
fork bottom.
9
Fit the sticker to the fender bracket.

10
Fit the brake caliper brackets and the front and
rear fender brackets on the right and left sides.
11
Fit the fender.
12
Fit the threaded sleeve with the two fastening
screws on the left fork leg. Insert the slotted
sleeve in the right fork leg from the outside of the
leg. Reassemble the wheel and wheel axle. Be-
fore inserting the wheel axle in the left fork leg,
the tapered spacer is to be placed between the
wheel and the fork leg, with its narrow end fac-
ing the wheel.
