APPLICATION PURPOSE
The brushing vacuum
cleaner is constructed
solely for sweeping areas
such as production
facilities, storage halls,
car parks and pedestrian
passages for sweeping-
up dry and damp
material.
Any other use is conside-
red as not being for the
intended purpose; the
manufacturer does not
accept liability for any
resultant damage.
Use for the intended
purpose also involves the
observance of the
prescribed operating,
service and maintenance
conditions.
The brushing vacuum
cleaner may be used,
serviced and maintained
only by persons who are
familiar with it and are
informed about the
dangers.
The series manufacture
version of the machine
corresponds to use
category ‘U’.

FITTING FLAT-BATTERY
SENSOR / INSERTING
AND CONNECTING
BATTERY
KSE 770 / 970:
CAUTION!
Danger of electric
shock! Do not place
any tool or other parts
on the battery or the
battery poles and do
not handle them with
wet hands.
Switch off key-
operated switch
and remove key!
(Fig. C/9)
Open lock with a
screwdriver.
(Abb F/1)
Remove rotary
button for suction
fan (Fig. C/4)
Open hood.
Remove battery plug.
(Fig. G/1)
The flat-battery sensor is
used for the protection
of the drive battery from
complete discharge.
The fitting of a flat-
battery sensor order No.
61197 increases the
service life of the battery
and is necessary for
claims under the warran-
ty.
Removing bridging
plug (is no longer
required after fitting
of flat-battery
sensor).
(Fig. K/3)
Fasten flat-battery
sensor with two
screws (Fig. H/1)
Establish plug-in
connection with the
flat-battery sensor
and plug together or
disconnect X2
(Fig. K/2) in
accordance with the
sticker (Fig. K/1). In
the standard series
version the plug-in
connection X2 is
disconnected, for
no-maintenance
battery. Note: the
bridging plug
(Fig. K/3) is only
required if no flat-
battery sensor is
fitted.
Connect the battery
to the bridge leads
and tighten the
terminal clamps.
Note the polarity:
‘+’ = positive pole
‘-’ = negative pole
(Fig. H)
Insert battery.
Plug-in battery plug.
Slew back covering
hood.
Close interlock by
turning anti-
clockwise with the
enclosed square
spanner.

CHARGING BATTERY
KSE 770 / 970:
Before it is put into
operation, the battery is
to be charged. For that
purpose, use the battery
charger recommended by
the manufacturer. The
battery charger and the
battery are adapted to
one another.
Only for use of the
battery, order No. 28921
and of the charger, order
No. 61196, can the
appropriate guarantee be
accepted for this.
For notes on the handling
of the charger please see
its operation manual.

BATTERY CAPACITY
CONTROL LAMP
(Function only in con-
junction with flat-battery
sensor)
KSE 770 / 970:
For checking the battery
capacity the brushing
vacuum cleaner is
provided with a green
and a red control lamp.
(Figs. D/12 and 13)(Figs. D/12 and 13)
(Figs. D/12 and 13)(Figs. D/12 and 13)
(Figs. D/12 and 13)
Control lamp green =
key-operated switch is in
position ‘I’. Battery
capacity is sufficient.
Red control lamp
flashing = residual
capacity of about 25 %
has been reached. After
3 min. the motor is
switched off automati-
cally.
ENGINE OPERATION
KSP 770 /970:
Before work on the
machine: switch off
key-operated switch
and remove key!
Screw off the cap of
the fuel filler nozzle.
(Fig. C/5)
Fill up with 2-star
petrol, unleaded,
max. 2.5 l.
Check oil level, if
necessary top up oil
(Note ADD and FULL
marks on the oil
dipstick). Above 4 C
single-grade engine
oil SAE 30, e.g. Mobil
Delavac 1230.
The oil level must not
fall below the ADD
mark.
For further notes on
the operation and the
maintenance and
servicing of the
engine please see its
operation manual.
WAY OF WORKING
The side brush sweeps
the dirt out of the
corners into the track of
the brush roller. This
conveys the dirt into the
dirt tank. The fine dust is
extracted by the suction
fan and separated by the
filter. Dust-free air leaves
the machine. (Fig. A)
NOTE!
The first travel attempts
should be carried out on
an open space until the
individual operating
elements and their
functions are exactly
known.
SWEEPING DRY
SUBSTANCES
When sweeping dry
substances open the
suction fan damper.
Put the rotary button
in the ‘I’ position.
(Fig. C/4)
WARNING!
Inflammable and
health-hazard sub-
stances must not be
swept up.
WET SWEEPING
During the sweeping of
wet material to be
vacuumed, close the
suction fan damper.
(Fig. C/4).
Set rotary button to
the ‘0’ position.

HANDLING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR
NO-MAINTENANCE
BATTERIES
Have work on batteries
carried out only by
skilled personnel. For
work on batteries wear
protective glasses and
protective clothing.
Observe the accident
prevention regulations as
well as DIN VDE 0510
and VDE 0105 Part 1.
Smoking prohibited!
Keep battery away from
naked flames, incande-
scence or sparks as
otherwise there is a
danger of explosion or
fire. Wash or flush out
any splashes of acid in
the eyes or on the skin
with lots of clean water.
After that seek medical
assistance without delay.
Rinse in water any
clothing contaminated
by acid. Avoid short
circuits! There is a
danger of explosion and
fire!
If the box of mainte-
nance-free batteries is
destroyed the bound
electrolyte released is
just as corrosive as liquid
electrolyte. Acids and
batteries with acid filling
must be kept out of
children’s reach.
Only approved lifting
and transport equipment
are to be used, e.g.
lifting gear according to
VDI 3616. Lifting
hooks must not cause
any damage to cells,
connectors or connec-
tion leads. The opening
and closing of electrical
connections must be
carried out only in the
currentless state with
main switch switched
off.
No-maintenance batte-
ries may only be dischar-
ged to 70 % of their
rated capacity. For
charging of the
batteries only direct
current may be used.
The charging methods
according to DIN 41773
and DIN 41774 are to be
used only in the modi-
fied form approved by
the manufacturer. Only
chargers approved by
the battery manufacturer
may be used. For notes
on the charging of the
battery please see the
charger operation
manual.
When charging is carried
out in closed rooms,
adequate ventilation
must be ensured.
17
The battery is to be kept
always clean and dry, in
order to avoid leakage
current and sparking. If
batteries are taken out
of service for a relatively
long time, they are to be
stored fully charged in a
frost-free room. Due to
self-discharge of the
batteries, recharging
must be carried out at
regular intervals.
If faults are found in the
battery or the charger,
the technical service
department must be
informed immediately.
Used batteries with
recycling symbols must
be fed into the recycling
process. All other
batteries are to be
disposed of as hazardous
waste, the relevant
regulations being
observed. If the handling
regulations are not
observed, if non-original
spare parts are used for
repairs or if the user
carries out modifications
or repairs of his own, all
claims under the warran-
ty shall be null and void.
GUARANTEE
For the guarantee and
the warranty our general
terms and conditions
apply. We reserve the
right to make changes
due to technical innova-
tions.
18
TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING!
With the exception of
the settings explained in
this operation manual
repairs should never be
attempted by the user
himself.
Leave all repairs to a
qualified Alto technician
or an authorised skilled
person.
The following notes will
help you with troubles-
hooting. Should it
nevertheless still not be
possible to remedy the
fault please contact
Alto’s technical service
department.
