Measuring for the Window Insulator
System Optix Acrylic
To make a tight, draft-free seal around your window, you will
need 1” wide flat surfaces on the window casings/moldings or
walls to adhere the trim strips.
For the width of a window, measure from inside to inside of
the flat areas. Measure at two or three different locations to
determine the shortest measurement.
WIDTH_____inches. Subtract 1/2” to get the total width
of the acrylic sheet_____inches.
For the height of a window without a sill, measure in the
same manner as the width.
HEIGHT_____inches. Subtract 1/2” to get the total height
of the acrylic sheet_____inches.
For the height of a window with a sill, measure from the
inside of the flat surface at the top of the window to the top
of the sill.
Cutting the Acrylic Sheet
5) Start scoring at the far end of the acrylic sheet and
pull the sharp point of the acrylic sheet scoring tool
toward you while firmly holding down the straight edge.
Score 3 or 4 times with medium pressure for best
results.
6) The point on the bottom of the blade is the only part
of the blade that should touch the acrylic sheet.
(See photo below)
7) After the score is made, carefully flip the sheet over.
Realign the straight edge along the score line, over the
section of acrylic to be saved.
8) Apply pressure to the 1" X 4" along the score and
pull the sheet up slowly with both hands until it snaps.
This will result in a clean break along the score.
9) Now you are ready to install the sheet into the
Snap-N-Seal profile trim pieces.
1) Measure the length and width of the area that needs
covered. Subtract 1/2 inch from both measurements and
score acrylic sheet to these dimensions.
2) To score acrylic sheet lay on a hard flat surface. To
eliminate scratches in the sheet place a piece of cardboard
under the sheet and leave the clear protective masking in
place until the actual installation.
3) Use a low profile straight edge such as a 1" X 4" board
as a guide for your scoring tool.
4) Line up the straight edge for an accurate score and use
the Red Devil acrylic sheet scoring tool # 1170.

Cutting the Trim
1) To cut profile use the measurements that you
recorded in step 1 but do not subtract the 1/2 inch.
For mitered corners use a miter box and cut at a 45
degree angle.
2) Use a hacksaw, fine tooth saw, pvc cutter, or
pruning shears to cut the vinyl trim to these
dimensions.
