theunit.Forthatpurpose,aGROUNDINGFASTENER
isprovidedonthegeneratorend(Figure).6
Generally,connectingaNo.12AWG(AmericanWire
Gauge)strandedcopperwiretothegroundingfastener
andtoanearth-drivencopperorbrassgroundingrod
(electrode)providesadequateprotectionagainstelec-
tricalshock.Becarefultokeepthegroundingwire
attachedafterconnectingthestrandedcopperwire.
However,localcodesmayvarywidely.
Properlygroundingthegeneratorhelpspreventelectrical
shockifagroundfaultconditionexistsinthegenerator
orinconnectedelectricaldevices,especiallywhenthe
unitisequippedwithawheelkit.Propergroundingalso
helpsdissipatestaticelectricity,whichoftenbuildsupin

correctandsafewaytomanagegeneratorpoweristo
sequentiallyaddloadsasfollows:
1.Withnothingconnectedtothegenerator,start
theengineasdescribedearlierinthismanual.
2.Pluginandturnonthefirstload,preferablythe
largestloadyouhave.
3.Permitthegeneratoroutputtostabilize.(engineruns
smoothlyandattacheddeviceoperatesproperly.)
4.Pluginandturnonthenextload.
5.Again,permitthegeneratortostabilize.
6.Repeatsteps4and5foreachadditionalload.

Cleanairventswithlowpressureairthatdoesnot

Wipetheexteriorsurfacesofthegeneratorwitha
dampcloth.

Forproperperformanceandlonglife,keepairfiltersclean:
Releasetheupperandlowerretainingclipsand
removetheairfiltercover.
Removetheouterfilterelementandtheinner
precleanerelement.
Ifthefilterelementsaredirty,cleanwithwarm,soapy
water.Rinseandletdry.
Applyalightcoatofengineoiltotheelements,then
squeezeitout.
Putthefilterelementsbacktogetherandreplace
intheairfiltercompartment,beingcarefultoplace
theouterfilterelementclosesttotheairfiltercover.
Replacethecoverandsnapretainingclipsbackin
