1. Charging the Quad Starship
Ensure the Quad Starship is turned OFF before attempting to charge it.
If left on, the Quad Starship won’t charge.
Disconnect the Charging/Power Lead from the Power Socket.
Connect the end of the Charging/Power Lead to the output of the USB charging cable.
Ensure that the Quad Starship is turned o.
Connect the USB plug on the charging cable to one of the following:
a) a USB 2.0 (or later) port on your computer while the computer is on
b) a stand-alone USB charger such as those used for cell phones or tablets
While charging, the USB plug on the charging lead will glow red. This light will go out
when the Quad Starship is fully charged and ready to y.
It’ll take 50 – 60 minutes to charge the Quad Starship from empty.
Don’t over-charge the Quad Starship, and don’t leave it connected to any charger for more than ninety
minutes. Always use a DC5V 500mA source (such as a standard USB 2.0 port). Don’t use USB hubs, USB
1.0 or USB 1.1 ports: these may not have enough current to properly charge the Quad Starship.
Inserting / replacing batteries in the controller:
The remote control requires 4 x AA batteries. To replace the batteries:
Read and obey all warnings and cautions in this booklet.
Open the battery compartment on the rear of the remote control.
Insert four (4) fresh alkaline batteries.
The correct polarity is marked inside the battery compartment.
Do not use rechargable batteries - they don’t have enough voltage to properly supply
the controller, and can cause erratic controller performance.
2. Pairing the Remote
The Quad Starship must be paired to the remote control to function - the two need to agree on a
frequency so that performance won’t be aected by nearby wireless devices. To pair the controller:
Ensure the Quad Starship is sitting at - if it’s turned on while at an angle, this can
disrupt the function of the auto-stabilization system.
Turn on the Quad Starship. The switch in next to the power lead on the underside.
The front-facing LEDs will light up, indicating that it’s powered on.
Turn on the remote control. If the controller is already on, turn it o and then on again.
It will beep quickly, several times signalling that it, too, is in pairing mode.
Once the remote control stops beeping then it’s paired and youre ready to y!

Preparing for Flight

Moving up and down: The Quad Starship moves
up and down by varying the speed of its main
rotors (you know, those things that spin). You can
control how fast these spin by using the left stick
on the controller. Pushing the stick up will increase
the throttle.
To get good results, be gentle and subtle. Small
adjustments made slowly and carefully are the best
way to get the Quad Starship to y well. Be careful
when easing o the throttle – if the Quad Starship
stalls (that is, doesn’t have enough lift to stay in
the air) it’ll fall, and might not be able to recover in
time, even if you jam the throttle back on.
Rotation: To rotate the Quad Starship, move the
right stick to either side. This will cause the rotors
to change their speeds relative to one another,
causing the body of the Quad Starship to spin on
the spot.
Forward & Backwards: The right stick on the
controller aects the Quad Starship’s direction of
travel.
Pushing the right stick up will pitch the Quad Star-
ship forwards. Whilst pitched in this way, the rotors
will push the Quad Starship along forwards. The
opposite is also true – moving the right stick down
will pitch the Quad Starship backwards and move
it in reverse.
Side to Side: By moving the left stick horizontally,
you can strafe or slide’ left and right without
rotating the Quad Starship.
By using the left and right sticks at dierent angles
and positions, you can design and execute some
graceful, arcing turns. On the other hand, quick
thrusts of the stick in dierent directions can
create some unique tricks or stunts. Practice makes
perfect!
Flip: Exactly what it sounds like - it makes the Quad
Starship do a ip when you hold this button and
move the left stick left or right or the right stick
forward or back. Flipping requires a lot of space
to properly recover afterward: 6ft/2m+ above,
below, to the side(s) and/or infront/behind.
Speed Select: Changes the speed at which the
Quad Starship will move. This will aect forwards,
backwards and side-to-side movement, but won’t
aect lift or turning speed.

The LCD screen on the base of the controller will display several useful indicators at all times.
Of particular note are the Signal Strength, Battery Indicator and the Trim Indicators.
Signal Strength: How well the controller and the Quad Starship can communicate. Exercise
caution: if this meter gets low, its highly likely that you may lose control of the Quad Starship!
Battery Indicator: This will indicate the current charge level of the batteries in the controller.
Realtime monitoring of the Quad Starships charge state is not possible, due to the high uctuations
in current drawn from the battery, which invalidates any remaining capacity measurements.
Throttle and Direction monitors: On the LCD screen, the level of throttle applied as well as
direction and rotation controls are displayed. The levels on the indicators are not inuenced
by the trim controls, and will show the raw data coming into the controller from the left and
right analog sticks.
Trim monitors: The state of each trim
control can be found on the LCD screen
on the bottom of the controller. The
centre is the neutral point, and any
adjustment either side is indicated.
Rotation Trim (Rudder): If you nd that
the Quad Starship is turning slowly left
or right when youre not using the right
stick on the controller, then you’ll need
to adjust the trim. The rotation trim
controls are located beneath the right
stick.
If the Quad Starship is rotating clockwise (its turning right from the imaginary miniature pilot’s
perspective) then move the trim adjustment switch left, compensating counter-clockwise.
Conversely, if it’s rotating counter-clockwise, compensate by moving the trim adjustment
right.
Sideways Trim (Strang): If the Quad Starship is moving sideways (either left or right without
pivoting) the use the Sideways Trim control, located beneath the left stick.
Movement Trim (Forward/Backwards): f the Quad Starship is moving forwards or backwards,
use the Movement Trim to compensate. Its located on the left side of the right stick. If the
Quad Starship is moving forwards, compensate by moving the trim backwards (i.e. down) and
vice-versa.
Throttle Trim (Up/Down): The throttle doesn’t trim quite the same way as the other axis as
theres no center point to reference from. However, the feel of the throttle and the way power
is applied is subtly adjusted.
To reset the trim to default, press and
hold the appropriate trim adjustment
button until the relevant trim indicator
shows a balanced reading. The
controller will emit one long beep when
this balance point is reached.

Trimming: You may need to adjust the trim every few minutes of ight, but it takes only takes
a moment. Basically, the trim ‘ne-tunes’ the speed of the rotor blades, and will help keep the
Quad Starship ying straight.
We suggest getting the Movement Trim balanced rst, as these are the most important to get
right. The Quad Starship can spin on the spot without problems - however, if it’s drifting one
way or other things become quite tricky. Once its stationary, then adjust the Rotation Trim
until it’s pointing in one direction consistently.
Wind: Basically, these are (approximately) 1/40th scale quad rotors. A full-sized Quad Starships
(if there is such a thing) wouldn’t be able to y in high winds – and neither can the models. If a
full sized Quad Starship would have diculty overcoming 50mph winds, then the model will
have the same diculty with 1~2 mph winds (i.e. 1/40th as much). Theres nothing that can
be done about this, it’s just physics... unless you shrink the planet with some kind of shink ray.
Air conditioning: Hot air rises and cool air falls – this creates movement in the air, leading to
an eect called “wind shear. Basically, this is when there’s a column of hot air going up next
to cold air going down. Many full-scale aircraft accidents have been caused by wind shear. Air
conditioners create heaps of wind shear. If the Quad Starship ies through wind shear, it will
seem to suddenly y up or down (depending on the direction of the wind shear).
The Ground Eect: When the Quad Starship is near the ground, the air it pushes down with its
rotor has nowhere to go – the ground is in the way. Some of this air bounces back, this pushes
the Quad Starship up. When the Quad Starship is near the ground, it will get slightly more lift
than it normally would. This is something to keep in mind when landing.
The Ceiling Eect: Conversely to the ground eect, when you y too close to a ceiling, a small
pocket of low pressure is created above the Quad Starship, and it will be sucked upwards. This
could be bad – if you hit the ceiling, the Quad Starship will stall, fall and possibly be damaged.
Places to Fly: Because high winds can be a problem, we recommend ying indoors. However,
you really do need a bit of space to get the most out of the Quad Starship. Some places which
are good for ight include large garages (whilst the car’s not parked there), indoor sports
areas, aircraft hangars, secret underground submarine pens and so on (though why youd y a
toy Quad Starship in your secret underground submarine pen is beyond us). Or a large lounge
room with delicate items stashed somewhere out of the way - whatever you’ve got.
Low Battery: To get the longest possible life from the built-in battery, never completely
discharge it. As soon as the Quad Starship shows any sign of running low on power (such as
responding slowly or being unable to maintain altitude easily) turn it o and charge it as soon
as practicable. For more information about battery care, see page 6.

Requires 4 x 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries (not included)
Batteries are small objects.
Replacing batteries must be undertaken by a competent adult.
Follow the polarity diagram ( + / - ) in the battery compartment.
Promptly remove dead/exhausted batteries from the controller.
Dispose of used batteries responsibly.
Remove batteries for prolonged storage.
DO NOT incinerate used batteries.
DO NOT dispose of batteries in re, as batteries may explode or leak.
DO NOT mix new and old batteries or types of batteries (i.e. alkaline/standard).
DO NOT recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
DO NOT short circuit the supply terminals.
Rechargable batteries are NOT recommended.
LiPo Battery Instructions:
The Quad Starship has a built in Lithium Polymer battery. These kind of batteries are light and powerful, as their
chemistry is based on lithium, a light and extremely volatile metal.
Never completely exhaust the battery. When the Quad Starship starts to lose power, turn it o and
charge it as soon as practicable.
Never leave the Quad Starship unattended while charging.
Charge battery in an isolated, controlled environment. Keep far away from ammable materials.
Do not expose to direct sunlight: there is a risk that the battery may overheat, ignite and/or explode.
Do not disassemble, modify, heat, or short circuit the battery. Don’t place it in re or leave in hot
places or near heat sources.
Do not drop the battery or subject it to strong impacts.
Do not allow the battery to get wet.
Only charge the battery from the supplied charging equipment. Using other charging equipment
will void your warranty, may damage the battery and poses a risk of re or explosion.
Use the battery only in this Quad Starship, and use only this battery in the Quad Starship.
Read these instructions carefully and thoroughly, and obey all guidelines herein.
In the unlikely event of leakage or explosion, use sand or a chemical re extinguisher to extinguish
the batteries.
The battery must be disposed of responsibly.
If your high school chemistry teacher ever demonstrated what happens when sodium is placed in water
(“boom” is the technical description of the outcome) then you’re somewhat familiar with how volatile lithium
is – except that lithium is lighter and less dense (and therefore packs a bigger bang, per gram) than sodium is!
Basically, obey all the guidelines and respect the power of lithium!
DANGER
Never insert any sharp objects, pins or screws
into the Quad Starship as this may puncture the
internal battery.

Battery Safety Instructions

CAUTION: Never y near your face. Keep rotor away from your ngers, hair, eyes and other body parts.
Always lift o from a at surface. Never hold the ying Quad Starship in your hand when lifting o. DO NOT
launch Quad Starship near people or animals. Stay away from obstacles and electrical hazards.
Parental supervision is required whenever this Quad Starship is in use by younger children.
Care and Maintenance:
Always remove the batteries from the controller when not being used for extended durations.
To clean, wipe gently with a damp cloth. Avoid use of solvents, as these can damage the plastic
components.
Keep the Quad Starship and remote away from heat sources.
Do not submerge the Quad Starship or remote control in water. This will damage the electronic
components, and could pose a severe risk to the built-in battery.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Keep hands, hair and loose clothing away from the rotors when the power switch is turned on.
Turn o controller/charger and Quad Starship while in use.
Remove batteries from the controller when not in use.
Parental guidance is required for younger users.
Keep your Quad Starship close and within line of sight – if the line-of-sight to the controller is lost,
you may lose control of the Quad Starship.
For best performance, use only fresh Alkaline AA batteries in the controller.
Read and obey all warnings and safety guidelines in this manual.
The controller and charger are specically designed to charge this Quad Starship. Never use any
other charging equipment!
Special Notice to Adults:
The Quad Starship is NOT intended for use by children under fourteen (14) years old, unless directly
supervised by a competent adult at all times.
The Quad Starship must only be used with the supplied controller/charger.
Regularly examine the Quad Starship and controller for any damage to the plugs, enclosure, rotors,
battery covers and other parts. In the event of any damage, neither the Quad Starship nor controller
should be used until the damage is completely repaired.

Heres what you’ve gotta do:
1. Read and obey all warnings and directions in this manual and on the packaging.
We wrote it because we mean it!
2. Insert batteries into the controller. Use 4 high quality alkaline AAs.
3. Ensure that the Quad Starship is turned OFF before charging. The on/o switch is on
the underside - it’s the big red one.
4. Grab the charging lead and pop the little end (gently) into the charging plug on the
side of the Quad Starship.
5. Insert the USB end of the charging cable into a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port on your
computer or a USB phone charger.
6. The USB plug will glow red while the Quad Starship is charging. When it’s done
and the LED goes out, disconnect the charging cable.
7. Turn the Quad Starship ON. Turn the remote control ON. Wait for the beeping to
stop.
8. Fly!
Controlling the Quad Starship
Moving up / down: Use the left stick on the remote control.
Turning Left / Right: Move the right stick left or right.
Moving Sideways: Move the left stick side to side.
Moving forward / back: Move the right stick forward or back.
Adjusting Trim:
Use the rudder trim adjustment switches, which are below and to the sides of the
control sticks. Each is located adjacent to the axis on the controller they aect.
For example, if the Quad Starship is turning left when only the throttle is used, then
the Rotation Trim (below the right stick) should be adjusted by clicking it to the
right until the unwanted left turn stops.
What is this “trim” thingy? If the Quad Starship is turning or moving when you don’t want it to, then
you need to adjust the trim.
Basically, it makes ne adjustments to the rotor speeds, and allows you to ne tune the Quad Starships
sense of direction. If the Quad Starship is steady as it hovers, then the trim is set correctly.
It can be a bit tricky to get the trim lined up at rst, but it gets easier with practice!
